No one is talking about Face ID, why? It strange that both my iPad Pro and iPhone have Face ID but laptop doesn't, and it's the most expensive device I have.

It's not the expense so much as the z-height. Apple likes their lids thin and weight balanced. Windows Hello exists in a lot of laptops, but I think all of the lids are thicker, usually matched with a touchscreen that had already added z anyways.

There will be thinner faceID implementations, but right now the word is that's for post 2020 iPhones.

iMacs though? Zero excuse not to add it on the next refresh.

There's really no interpretation of the word "imminent" that would fit with "March 2020" however, so hopefully that isn't where this is going.
The interpretation of "imminent" needs to also be taken in context with his inside source saying the keyboard was a "delight." I highly doubt an inside source would make that kind of comment this far out if the release was intended for next March :p

Hmm..

Mark Gurman's "imminent release" sure is taking a while...
Imminent is going to mean an time between now and the 28th of November as Apple will want to get all of its products set before Black Friday. Because the 16.4” MacBook Pro is replacing the 15” MacBook Pro, Apple is going to want to get it released before the 28th. If it doesn’t make it out of the mothership before the 28th, I don’t see it coming out before early next year.

This is different than the Mac Pro. Apple wants that out before the end of the year for people who want to write off on taxes. It is also not really replacing a currently shipping product, well, one anyone wants to buy. Most likely before people go on Christmas Break though, so December 19th seems plausible enough for the Mac Pro. Again, I predict this Thursday or Friday after FCPX Summit “goodies” are revealed. Would love to see performance on 28-core, Afterburner, dual Vega Duo machine running 4K or 8K footage. Perhaps the FCPX dev team still has some tricks up their sleeves yet with regards to performance, especially after 10.4.7 intro’d the new Metal-based render engine. We’ll know very soon as FCPX Summit is November 7-9.

Life is stranger than fiction.

Apple, alone, has issues with keyboards. It’s incredible.
They are like an all star football team that keeps getting called for false starts and holding.

I have to be honest and as straightforward about this as I can...while I love the 2016-2019 chassis, if Apple can’t let go of that Z-height to fit in the Magic Keyboard mechanism and is instead trying to get fancy Dan with some innovative new scissors mechanism to fit because of some silly pride about not giving a thicker MacBook Pro, they need to get over themselves. I hate saying this, but damn, just let it go, eat the retooling for a thicker CNC’d chassis and lets get this b*tch out the door and into customers hands. If not now, then they are going to end up waiting until Comet Lake-H, which is 5-7 months away, easily and jibes with a May/June launch...by then, they need to have the 14” MacBook Pro ready to go as well. This is getting ridiculous. I honestly feel they only went to a larger screen to spread things out inside a larger chassis to avoid having a thicker chassis and that they will taper the bottom out just enough to fit stuff inside so the Z-height is raised higher like a slight pedestal. Maybe that helps with cooling, maybe not. To think there is a small crisis brewing may be hyperbole, but damn, sort this sh*t out, Apple.

@Zdigital2015 I’m right there with you man..
Honestly, I just want Apple to do “less” innovation with this product line.

People want to get work done, reliably, with these things. The innovation and change needs to be kept in check and more conservative on things that are workhorses like this.

To quote you - “get over it” Apple and just give us a bloody functioning machine - boring or not to the design team - we don’t care. Make this problem finally stop please!

(This never needed to happen. They should have always designed the 2015/2016 machines around the Magic Keyboard)

Big caveat here: the chances of a third party Final Cut Pro summit revealing anything good about Apple’s plans are, well, low. Let’s see.

I don’t know if he refers that the launch of MBP16 will no take place.

What do u think?

Let's put it this way...

I have always remained optimistic that there will be an announcement of the new MBP before Black Friday (not that it ties in with that day)

I think that there have been too many other events that delayed the announcement. I think there were also keyboard issues to solve.

Yes, I do believe there is a VERY GOOD CHANCE that we may see an announcement within the next three days.

Of course, as always, I could be pissing in the wind.

So, I would have laid decent money on an announcement this week. The usual suspects (Snell on Upgrade) were quiet about any mention of the 16", making me think it was part of a briefing Tuesday and the embargo might have dropped during the Final Cut event at the latest.

So are we counting on a 2020 release then? 2019 seems to be more and more unlikely, and we have seen no signs of the new MacBook during the FCPX creative summit this year...
