Inventory of 2019 2.6ghz Macbook Pros with 512gb SSD and larger (and all 2.4 ghz models) seem very limited at the moment. Almost 2 weeks to get delivered to my local Apple store or shipped direct, only the 15" MBP model out of stock at my local Costco, limited stock at Best Buy. Definitely something amiss - to me that's the best indicator a refresh is coming for certain configurations.

No. I’m being serious. There’s millions of iPods and older iPhones still in use.

You really think there are "millions" of 32-bit iPhone 5 devices still in use (running iOS 10.2)? The 30 pin connector hasn't been on an Apple device since 2013, nearly 7 years ago. Whatever devices remain that aren't in a landfill are all end of life for both software and hardware.

Maybe a third party company will come up with one, but Apple is not going to do that when they already provide a solution that works (USB-C—>USB-A—>USB-A—>30-Pin Dock Connector). It’s old tech that was superseded seven years ago, regardless of the number of devices that were sold.

Soooooooo as has been mentioned somewhere here, the Final Cut Creative Summit is next week from November 7-9th in Cupertino. The website says, "Attendees will start the Apple field trip with a special visit to Apple Park’s Visitor Center, with some surprises from the Apple product team."

Maybe some of the 'surprises' are the 16-inch MacBook Pro & the Mac Pro availability and pricing.

Um well the iPhone 5 used lightning... but yes there are tons of people that still use iPod classics and the like. I agree it’s not majorly important but it sure would be nice to have a native cable.

Perhaps Mac Pro availability. I am not sure about the launch of a brand new MacBook Pro this year.

Apple spent some reported $6 billion to make just the initial line-up of shows for the Apple TV+. Although it is not hardware, it seems a huge investment that would make it the most important and strategic launch of the year for Apple. Perhaps Apple wants all the heads turned to Apple TV+ right now.

And I was just replying to the conflicting "stockpiling" and "release next year". Apple is the most avaricious company known to mankind and would never allow money to be tied up in stock when they could be extracting it from our pockets.

Wonder if the forthcoming MBP will have a repairability score of 0?!?

Well then if we are talking about the iPhone 4S then the numbers are even worse. That means you’ve got a device running iOS9 that hasn’t seen a software update in over 4 years.

The last 30 pin device was the classic iPod which was discontinued in 2014. iTunes stopped being able to talk to them in 2017.

We are talking about 32 bit devices that haven’t seen a software update in over 3 years at a minimum and can no longer be managed through iTunes which is an application that no longer even exists in Catalina. The lack of a usb-c to 30pin cable is the last of your worries if you’re trying to eke out some utility from one of these relics.

All 30 pin devices are considered vintage and obsolete. There’s no way that they are still in use by “millions” or even “tons” of people.

The iPhone 5 was 30 pin, you’re thinking of the 5C and 5S. Software support for the iPhone 5 ended with iOS 10.3.3.

Ok ok...

The iPhone 5 is lightning! I mean the 2012 iPhone 5, released right before the original iPad mini and iPad 4, both of which also got lightning. Do I need to take a picture of mine or can you look on google?

Secondly, every old iPod ever made by Apple EVER is supported in the latest version of iTunes and Finder in Catalina. I can guarantee it.

And... iOS 9.3.6 or something like that for the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and iPad 3 just came out a few months ago. I have a very active business repairing and selling these devices. I know the demand for them, and maybe I’m the only person in the world, but I’d like a USB C cable.

No company will ever let a stock of unreleased products stay for long, unless there is good reason for that. That would be bad management.

Perhaps if the 16-inch MacBook Pro is being delivered in very low numbers, Apple would keep some stock before start selling. Or perhaps, as I mentioned earlier, Apple does not want to shift focus from the Apple TV+, which cost a fortune and is facing fierce competition from all sides.

In the interest of creating a baseline configuration, which I have not seen because of the sparsity of rumors regarding other configuration details on the rumored 16” MacBook Pro. Here’s what we can reasonably expect. The new stuff is in BOLD and the items that are rumored to change for sure and the ITALICS are thing that could change. Anything that is left alone, is not expected to change or will not change

- 16.4” 3072x1920 P3 500-nit display
- 9th Generation 2.6GHz 6-core, 2.3GHz 8-core and BTO 2.4GHz 8-core CPU
- 16GB of DDR4-2400 DRAM (upgradeable to 32GB)
- 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB Flash Storage
- AMD Radeon Pro 555X, 560X, BTO to Vega 16 or Vega 20
- Touch Bar
- Discrete Touch ID key
- Physical ESC key
- Scissors mechanism keyboard

- 802.11ac
- Bluetooth 5.0
- 4x40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 ports
- 3.5mm audio jack
- 720p FaceTime HD camera
- Dual Speakers
- Three microphones

If I’m wrong as far as certain things - mainly GPU and DRAM - I’ll be certain to note those. However, I am skipping any of the speculation on those since there is really slim evidence of changes at this point. This isn’t meant to be a wish list or definitive, more of a checklist of what we know that is solidified through various leaks and rumors multiple times. Not sure if this helps or not, but it was easy enough. The truth is a not that much is changing, unless it does when it’s announced.

This new keyboard looks awfully similar to the old one on the 15" model. What makes you think this is going to have a scissor switch mechanism, considering we have official images from Apple?

The bottom of the 16” looks slightly thicker, the well that holds the keyboard looks like it was machined slightly deeper (I did not discover this, another forum user did). The relatively low travel of the Magic Keyboard and the larger size of the 16.4” chassis overall allows the repositioning of logic board components and Apple’s desire to move past this issue. We’ll see soon enough.

Think you need to add WIFI 6 802.11ax. Laptops live and die on WIFI so I expect like the iPhones they will have a WIFI update.

Guys, please keep in mind probably the most trusted person on the subject is Mark Gurman. He's Tweeted on the keyboard:

I put it in italics as something that could change but I have read no rumors of it actually changing, which is why I left it as the 802.11AC for the baseline.

Goodness knows the GPU needs to change but have read no rumors of GPU changes or to make the Vega 16/20 standard or moving to a Radeon Pro “Navi”, none of which really exist right now (Radeon RX5500M exists, but no PRO versions yet).

I agree that it is time for 802.11AX on MacBook Pro, but I know the 16” MBP will at least have 802.11AC so that’s what I went with.

Let’s hope this week or next gives us the answers we want/need.

I may have to test this ultra thin Mac just because all the things i hate like the TouchBar (always did, but i just can' say "No' to that display..

For me, wi-fi is not a problem...,. Why would i get all new equipment for the sake of one device? Most of my stuff is still 100Mpbs (not gigabit) except my NAS,, so that's how ancent i am

So what is the new guess here?
This Monday or Tuesday inline with an Adobe event people are talking about?

No one is talking about Face ID, why? It strange that both my iPad Pro and iPhone have Face ID but laptop doesn't, and it's the most expensive device I have.
