I was surprised to see the Pro starting at 128gb too, considering the Series 9 and AWU got bumped up to 64gb.
Probably true, however 99% will be saving their photos in the 24 pixel format.
Also there are other disadvantages to the 128gb, like half the speed & future proofing.
It's simply not worth $100 saving, regardless whether using Pro Res
This wouldn't be a problem if Apple just added a MicroSD card slot onto the phone. But that would require Apple to respect it's consumers.
I think the tradeoffs they made here are reasonable. Not everyone is going to be shooting super high res video. And if they are they still can do it with external storage. It allows there to be a cheaper entry model for the people who will use it for all its other nice features (like the high refresh rate display).
I assume most people including myself get the 128GB. At least it's still $999 as long as it's $999 I'll buy and sell it back each year. Most people get the pro model for the three cameras but don't know the difference between the base model and the pro.
Except people will still buy a 128GB phone, pay extra for a 256GB and it does NOT cost more to make a 128GB phone
Apple shouldn’t sell a product with so little storage that they have to disable one of the features of the flagship phone. It is indeed embarrassing … and stupid.
I’ve never once used ProRes as a 13P owner. I think the external drive thing is an acceptable compromise… if you’re gonna be working with video files that big do you even want them on the internal drive anyways…?
You are confusing 15 Pro with 15 Pro Max.
This is the correct answer. If you're deciding that 1 specific storage level of your product isn't capable of the rest of the storage levels, either fix it or don't sell it.

Neither have I, but my 256gb storage makes it a lot smother and faster than my 128gb 12 Pro was 😊
This was my theory for why the 15 pro max only starts at 256GB, but without really any price increase. Yes, it’s $100 more than last year but comes with 256GB, but apple didn’t want the pro Max model to come with a feature deficiency due to onboard storage. Makes sense to me.
You’re thinking of the Pro Max, the 128GB 15 Pro does exist.
This is why they made the Pro Max 256GB base. Imagine they didn't and the **** show that would follow?
Nothing embarrassing about it. Many people don’t need 256GB. 128GB works well for a lot of people. If I am not mistaken, you get phone fully specced so why make the comment you did? It doesn’t make sense. Not everyone likes paying for things they don’t need because some on tech site think it is embarrassing.
With respect to the watchers, I think we’re going to learn that there is quite a bit more space used by the WOS in Series 9 and AWU2 in order to enable the onboard Siri capabilities. not a ton, but some so better to just increase base storage.
Also, WOS 10 now enables local storage of maps data for hiking, routing, maps, so more storage is probably warranted overall
