Apple shouldn’t sell a product with so little storage that they have to disable one of the features of the flagship phone. It is indeed embarrassing … and stupid.

Of course, they should.

Those of us who buy the 128Gb version doesn't care about ProRes at all.
I'm using iCloud Photo Library and with optimised storage, it only takes 5Gb on the phone.

They don't have to raise the price to increase base storage. The only time I believe they've done that in the past is iPhone 7 going from 16GB to 32GB. iPhone 12 Pro raised the base storage from 64GB to 128GB at the same starting price.

No, but Apple has pressure on their profit not increasing the prize of the iPhone in the US the last few years.
They would have increased the price.

And if the 256Gb version should have been $100 cheaper according to you, then I wish for the 128Gb version to be $150 cheaper.

There is always a need for less storage when it's cheaper.

Confirmed in the user guide here that ProRes video recording on the internal storage is still limited to 30 fps on 256GB and higher iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max; Only external storage unlocks 60 fps.
Absolute joke, makes no sense - why have a 1TB storage option? to fill it up with 48megapixel images of your dying dog? - Not everyone is going to have a SSD for external recording to hand in the event you might want to record something in ProRes on the fly - Your telling me the NAND at 1TB doesn't have sufficient write/read speeds? Mental.

They are and that's the whole point, aside from the fact that it precludes a feature of the phone, regardless of whether you use it or not.

It's embarrassing to care about a feature you're never going to use.

I don't care about ProRes at all, I don't care about the speed of the storage as long as it's fast enough for my use, etc.

I only care about features I will use.

I know to some this is an annoying, tacky move, but for me I have filmed in pro raw exactly one time. Take that anyway you like.
Interesting that even though your comment was undeniably an objective data point, two people disliked it, likely in protest to it simply because it doesn’t do service to their view.

I never have, but the point remains, Apple should not sell a product which can’t utilize software due to said product’s hardware limitation.
I’d dispute this. Many products are limited by their hardware, but continue to exist for the lower price point. I mean really the base iPhones are in the same boat. With such a huge portion of iPhone Pro customers not even aware of ProRes and have absolutely no use for it, it makes sense to offer the cheaper option for them. And I doubt it will cause confusion just because it has the Pro name. Anyone who actually uses ProRes will know how much storage they’ll need. This is likely just a principles issue for some people here, but not a real world issue.

LMAO, you get this worked up about someone pointing out that the lack of storage could easily be solved with a simple microSD slot....

Go on, defend Apple on this. Or defend Samsung. Seriously, give a reasonable defence of why consumers shouldnt have this option at all.

Some of us deal with reality. The iPhone is now about 16 years old. Apple has never had removable storage in the iPhone, iPad or even the iPod.

Consumers shouldn't have any rights when it comes to such features of a product. The only task left to consumers is to buy the products that exists.

So when Apple moved to e-sim and left the area for a sim card filled with a solid block....what was your opinion of that? They could have easily made that as expandable storage..... EASILY. You know they choose not to because they want to suck every penny out of you they can.

I don't want any small removable object to be an essential part of a phone.

It's quite understandable why Apple didn't use that space for something else.
But I don't care, because I don't want removable storage on my phone.

Thought you all were crazy talking about a 128gb 15pro as the 15pro max started at 256 but I just checked preorder page and damn there it is a 128gb 15pro. I thought you were all bots or something going on about this 128gb. That is just wrong what they dare doing. They market the iPhone 15 pro model as the same as the bigger variety only smaller screen. They need to be called out on this. The smaller model is the inferior model. Im really pissed at Apple for the leather thing too. That twill cloth **** is unacceptable at a premium leather cost.

That’s exactly what I came here to say. I think it time we move on from 128. The OS, the apps, the photos, the videos - everything we’re doing and using is requiring and producing increasingly larger files. 128 is no longer sufficient. Its only function is all they can offer a lower entry price point.

Says to me that 128GB version of a "Pro" iPhone should not be a thing. Just like MBAs with 8GB of RAM and single chip 256GB storage. I get that Apple makes a nice $ on the storage and memory options, but the base specs should not be crippling to the device features.

review confirmed no 4k60pfs Prores internal recording ...
need someone to confirm ..this is bad..

Which review was that? Could you link it?
Review not needed. Apple support page confirms 256GB+ iPhone 15 Pro/Max can do up to 4k 30fps on internal storage, 60fps requires external.

ProRes is available for recording up to 4K at 30 fps. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can record 4K at 60 fps when connected to a compatible external storage device.

So all iPhone 15 Pro/Maxes will require external drives to make full use of this feature.

An external device feature requires an external device. Similarly, iPads require an external device to have Stage Manager on a second display.
The only difference from that analogy is theoretically it doesn’t have to be an external device feature. A second display feature will never not require a second display, even theoretically. But at some conceivable theoretical point, 4k 60fps could become a standalone device feature, if the internal storage gets big enough. But yes with current capacities, it is an external device feature.

At that future point we will be having the same discussion about 8k 60fps being an external device feature.

This. This news makes it entirely pointless to get 1TB of storage if no one can record videos or take pictures in 4K & 60 FPS internally.

So, what does that mean exactly, like I’m five

did they bork the 256GB model as well, so it won’t provide ALL the features of the phone Onboard? Will the 512GB model do everything native onboard? Or will NO iPhone 15 PM do everything native onboard?

Also, could this be one of those “features“ that won’t be available till later in this fall?
