Apple says 23rd, FedEx says 24th...Which is it?

I had a 24 June delivery date and scheduled a day off for it.
I received the e-mail and changed the day off to today.
I am a little apprehensive because the FEDEX tracker has not updated my shipment in over 12 hours.
My notice still says 24 June before 4:30 PM
However Just moments ago, the FEDEX updated my tracking notice to say that it has left the Indianapolis depot, which is only 2 hours from me.
That same notice still says delivery by 24 June before 4:30 PM.
I think it will be in my hands between 10:00 AM and noon.
If not the world will not end --- that is tentatively scheduled for October 2012. Hollywood says so.

Correct. This was kind of my point: the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. There is no good information source right now. We can only watch and see how it plays out. Messy.
I have my doubts about mine coming in today... the tracking page claims that it'll be here by 10:30 AM today, but the Fedex page doesn't indicate it's even in my home state yet... usually it'd have to be on the truck by now for it to be here by 10:30. We'll see, at worst I have to wait 'til tomorrow, no biggie.
Same here... I am told to call back after 8:30 because its "Still a little early for it to have been sorted by the depot"

I hope that if it isn't on the truck for delivery I can still pick it up directly. They may not let me though, anyone have any idea what their policy is on that?

It looks like mine is going to my fedex local area. Still say 24 @ 4:00 pm. By looking at the package it say international economy distribution. This means the package does not have priority compared to priority package. SO guess what, it may end up being delivered on 24. Unless you have a 23 date, then you are lucky.
Mine also went to Indianapolis... says "Departed 4:30am"
I still show a delivery date of today...
But I am in NJ! Fedex would have to haul @ss to get it here today?!
More doubts are starting to creep into my mind. Unless Fedex can pull a miracle out of their ass today I think you're going to see a lot of angry people on the forums this evening.
If Apple has punk'd us with their email I think the anger would best be sent to Apple directly. Sjobs@apple.com. We should find out shortly. Packages should be on the truck around 8ish. Then we can give FedEx a call to find out the real scoop. Maybe.
CNBC just did a segment on the iPhone 4, had one in studio.
The guy there showing it off said folks will begin receiving them today.

From my own experience in Chicago if the package isn't on a truck for delivery by 7 am local time it's not being delivered that day. Granted, Fedex's tracking site may be behind in updates.
But yes, the anger should then be directed to Apple and Apple only but you'd see a lot of angry people bitching about it.
I'm pretty sure I'm getting mine tomorrow (24th), even though I received the same email from Apple as everyone else. As of 4:00 a.m. this morning it was in Memphis. I live in Houston and I don't see how it can get here to the local sorting facility and then out on a truck by the end of the day today.
I'm in the same boat. It's not that I can't wait until tomorrow, it's just it's quite inconvenient to be told to expect to receive it today on the 23rd... which would mean waiting all day the 23rd, and then having to wait again the next day.

I think I will e-mail Apple or call an Apple rep and express my discontent for FEDEX due to their tardiness. If they were ordered "All June 24th packages to be delivered June 23rd" and aren't following, then perhaps they should look into a different courier service.

I don't think fedex is the one to blame here. apple likely made that call on their own. Fedex is doing what they can now. The frustration should then be directed only at Apple then.
I'll be PO'd if their updates are behind and I miss delivery. I was going to work from home today but seeing no update for delivery I came into the office. I can leave if I see the status change. Hopefully it does before they make an attempt!
Tomorrow will be a lot tougher for me to work from home because a bunch of ppl are on vacation.
I just got a call from Fedex telling me they are delivering a package from Apple today! My tracking still shows the 24th but the guy was really nice. He said to make sure I leave a note, etc.

Wow that is awesome. I'm waiting for "the call" then. I am not holding my breath that all fedex drivers are as nice as yours though. where are you located?
