Alright, to everyone who's worried about not getting their iPhone today:

Apple most likely told Fedex to override the system and write 6/24 as the delivery date no matter what because they expected to hold the packages for that date. For whatever reason, Apple decided NOT to hold packages after all. Upon making this decision, they had Fedex generate a list of all customers who would receive their package early, and then sent out emails to all of those people.

In other words, Apple wasn't guessing about the 23rd delivery date. If they said it will come today, it will come today. Fedex most likely just didn't update their system to reflect the new "real" delivery date, but rest assured, it will still physically arrive at your house/apt/office today.

FedEx's online tracking system is NOT REAL-TIME. They state right on their website that it's for informational purposes only, not to be taken as a definitive schedule. Sometimes I get packages DELIVERED before their system even says "out for delivery". It can be majorly out of sync with the real world at times. My advice? Sit back, relax, and wait till after 5pm before you start complaining. ;)

I just spoke with a very helpful rep from FedEx, who confirmed that my package was at the destination sort facility, but not yet at the local station. She said that it is possible that it could transition to "out for delivery" but if the volume is high, and the package is guaranteed for tomorrow, it is not likely. She said that I could continue checking fedex.com to see if it arrives at the local station, then I could call back and see if I could pick up the package myself.

Which is probably what I will do.

She was very patient with me, and said that this was the second call she had gotten about packages from Apple. She expected package volume to be very heavy for the next few days.

Simpletracking.com shows a bit more of the detail FedEx usually hides from the user. Mine originally had a delivery date of today, but at some point changed to the 24th.

It's at the local center, and the last tracking info I have is "Left FedEx Ramp" at 9pm last night. FedEx usually loads these things up in a truck before 8am here, so it looks like it's just going to sit where it is until tomorrow.

It may still get on a truck, but doesn't seem likely. 10 minutes and a whole day away. Oh well :(

Well that site gave me a bit more hope. It seems it's more up to date than Fedex's site. On Fedex it said my iPhone is at the destination sort facility still, but simpletracking.com says it left the sort facility at 4:34 this morning. After that I know it only has one more local hub to get to then it'll be put on a truck...Hoping for the best!

Here is me. Fedex.com still shows a delivery date of June 24 (I was a very early shipment) and not on a truck. I'm in Downtown KCMO.

That is pretty much the same as mine. I wonder if it isn't delivering today, can we pick them up at the main branch where they put them on the truck?

Another member suggested to use www.simpletracking.com

I did, and it shows that mine is left FedEx ramp in Dulles, VA. I live in DC. The fedex site, however, shows that it left NJ. In other words, it is not updating.

They will be delivered today. The iphone is being shipped "International Economy" and there is a department that handles those. They told me i will have it by 4:30.

I am in KC as well and mine is shows it being at the Destination Sort Facility as well. Mine arrived at 1:30 am last night. Called FedEx this am and rep stated that it was still there and needed to go to the local facility to be put on a truck. Asked if that would happen today and she did not know. Asked if I could pick it up and she said it would have to be released by apple first. Mine still shows delivery date of june 24th.

Guys...Do not worry at all!

My tracking for all 3 of my phones still say Departed FedEx location in Indianapolis at 4:52 AM. I live in Reading, PA, which is an hour east of Philadelphia. I was pretty hopeless for today but guess what? My FedEx lady just delivered all 3 of my phones!!!!

Do not worry about your tracking, because I though my situation was far more desperate than any of yours!

Well, that's pretty interesting.

I guess I'll wait to call FedEx about picking up my phone then!

Ah, I live in Lancaster County. My iPhone says it departed Newark, NJ at 3:30am. Reading your post gave me a bit more hope. Enjoy your new iPhone!

OK. Game Over.

I just called up FedEx again. She said she knew "Apple sent out a lot of emails stating the 23rd but your package is still marked as the 24th."

I then asked if there was any possibility it could be delivered today. She said "No, it's still containerized at the sort facility at this point."

So there you have it. If your tracking does not show its on the van or at least at the local station odds are it is not going to be delivered today.

Personally I'm going to stop worrying about it and move on with my day. If for some freak reason a delivery attempt is made I'll p/u at the station tonight. Not betting on that to happen.

I think I'll email Steve though and ask him what yesterday's letter was about though. It's not nice to punk customers.

I spoke with someone at FedEx who said the package was slated for delivery tomorrow by 4:30pm. I said that Apple had confirmed via email that the package should deliver today. She said that I could speak to someone in the IPD department--they handle the Apple account. But they don't open until 8:00am central time.

So near, and yet so far!

- Steve
Perhaps I'm a little late to the party, but the IPD department rocks! It stands for International Package Direct (I think) and they are the ones that handle the Apple account. Call and ask to speak to them if you want some reassurance.

The very nice Yvonne confirmed that as of 7:45am my package was on the truck for delivery today! She said she's been giving out the good news all morning long. :D

EDIT: Some more details. My iPhone still shows at the destination sort facility with a delivery date of 6/24 by 4:30 online

Well that makes sense. How could Apple speed up packages that were already in the FedEx pipeline?

I can understand them doing expedited shipping on later orders (people seeing Overnight on their tracking page) but for those of us in the initial shipment batch we were kind of at the mercy of FedEx.

Call FedEx their info is more up-to-date than website

I just called FedEx directly, they connected me to International dept (once I gave them my tracking #).

The woman in the International Dept of FedEx was very nice. Once I gave her my tracking # she said, my package is "On a Truck Out for Delivery as of 9:03 am"

The FedEx website, even now is still reflecting:

Jun 23, 2010 3:34 AM At dest sort facility ATLANTA, GA

So clearly the FedEx.com website isn't updated with the most recent information that FedEx reps may have.

For those of you in the Atlanta Metro area, I live about 20 miles North of Atlanta so maybe this gives you an idea of your arrival date depending on where your iPhone is currently.

I ordered my iPhone 4 via Apple.com around 9:35 pm EDT on 6/15. I did get the Apple email yesterday saying it would arrive on 6/23 and my FedEx.com Tracking results still show a 6/24/10 by 4:30 pm Estimated Delivery.

I am working from home today, so I'm happy my iPhone 4 will arrive today. Now I'm just hoping that Activation won't take so long!

Good luck everyone!!

that is the exact info I got. "still containerized"

Yeah, I would have been perfectly happy getting mine on the 24th had Apple not sent out the "you will get it on the 23rd" email. I am trying to coordinate with my neighbor to be around to sign for it.

The Rep I just talked to told me that the tracking system is down and that my phone was already out for delivery as of almost 2 hours ago. My tracking information still says it's at the sorting facility, but it's really on the truck. w00t. FedEX has another internal real time tracking system. give them a call and have them check.

I got an email from Apple yesterday saying I would get my iPhone 4 on the 23rd. My FedEx tracking says the expected delivery is the 24th. Both of my iPhones are a state away (Oakland, CA to Central Oregon) as of noon on the 22nd.

Any insite when I will get the iPhone?

On a side note my wife's iphone has been consistently 6 hours ahead of mine in tracking even though I ordered hers 20 minutes AFTER mine. Same model too.

The tracking info is pretty much meaningless for most people. If you got the email, then you will get the phone. Of course it not an iron clad guarantee, as mistakes can happen in transit, but for the vast majority of us, we will get our phones today, irregardless of what your tracking says. Case in point: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/946885/

Fedex tracking on their site says that it "Arrived at FedEx location" in Newark yesterday at 2:38 am. When I called 1-800-gofedex and tracked from there it said that it was on route to my zip code (didn't say it was out for delivery, but maybe it never does that when tracking by phone).

In both cases, the estimated delivery date was tomorrow.
