They screw up the design and abandon entire industries of customers for years. Unbelievable - what a disgrace this new Apple is.

This time there will be better room for internals.
It even has wheels for easy transport.
They call it a 2-in-1. Courage.

I'm not going to get my hopes up too much yet - but this is definitely encouraging and I'm not going to complain (much) lol

John Gruber at Daringfireball still doesn't understand where the pro market went.

No. No, John. The pro industry didn't largely go in the direction of one big GPU. They went with multiple big GPUs. And they went with nVidia.

Yep, totally agree. It struck me that they think one big gpu vs two gpu's would be better.

More GPU's is always going to be better if your software requires it.

What I want to know is will they allow CUDA on their apps or will they continue with Metal. If they continue without Nvida options it will be DOA.

Outstanding news! Becuase of all the uncertainty, silence, negative news, I was getting myself ready for possibly leaving the Apple platform. Been dabbling with an Android phone, MS Surface, even Fitbit part time these last few months in anticipation. Actually a big relief to see Apple is still focused and I'm able to delay the jump.

Just last week I was at the Apple Store and notice the LG displays sitting next to the MP and Mini. I was thinking to myself how ugly those displays are and how ironic seeing them next to such beautiful designed products. So glad to know Apple did not lose their minds.
Glad Apple finally gave the Pro community a roadmap so at least we know something is coming. I don't mind Apple's secrets but the lack of updates and news were just giving us all Pro's the bad feeling we were left behind.
Thanks for the great news Apple.

It's gonna take Apple two years to develop this new "modular Mac Pro", while tons of "modular computers" are made and sold everyday. Huh.... Don't overthink it guys. It's a case, with slots, just like you made for over a decade. Just make it incredibly powerful and expandable. That's what Pro's want.

I absolutely can't wait to find out what the new modular Mac Pro is going to be. If it pans out I'm giving my iMac to my boy friend, selling his iMac and buying a Mac Pro and a Mac Display.

Take your time Apple but hurry up. :D

"Modular" for Apple, not for you.

They explicitly stated that the 6,1 wasn't updated because it wasn't modular enough for them, due to thermals. A 7,1 will allow Apple to be modular.

Sorry Apple, too little too late. Already left your eco system and couldn't be happier. Sure, there are things I miss like OSX, but ultimately my productivity is not decided by the OS but rather the software I run on top of it. As it stands now, it will be a while before I ran this PC into the ground and I'm open to see what Apple has to offer.

Now Apple this is courage. You like to be very secretive. This must have been hard to swallow. Telling your users (and competitors) about future plans.

Courage would have been owning up to it years ago and using their huge cash hoard to fix it. What they did was a cover-up and screwing over their users.

Heh. Apple suddenly caring about the pro market is like the farmer caring about his livestock after the barn gate has been left open for a week. After years of neglect, mediocre software, abandonment of Xserve and bs throughput speeds on supposedly professional products, true professionals have left Apple years ago and nothing will get them back Phil.

With how much they probably spent on the trash can design, I'm shocked that they're working on an all new design.

It's a flawed design so they have to. They waited years to do so because they hoped software would catch up to it (as in support multi-GPU scaling). When it was clear it wouldn't, they started working on a replacement - and have been doing so probably a fair bit before today.

In a decade we'll speak of the 2013 Mac Pro like we do now of the 2000 Power Mac Cube - an elegant design that wasn't functional in the real world.

I just don't believe it. Rethinking with Apple these days means "can we add colors silicon bands to it"
It is nice to finally hear something, but it's nonsense in my book now until I see something. But "beyond 2017" could mean 2020 as well. ANOTHER year of waiting at least. In the meantime we're having overpriced and outdated hardware that performs like a $300 dell computer and no iMac updates. If the Mac Pro is a 4 year cycle, i guess we can expect the same for iMac now too?
Sorry, time to forget about this company and get hackintoshes to solve our problems, so tired of this.
And I am a fanboy, and i hate feeling like this.

They have at least got some dignity back. Let's hope the display has HDR and a high framerate.

Seriously, pass. I can build bigger and better for a fraction of the cost. If Dexcom can get on board with an Android app, I'd drop Apple completely.

I already did. Built my PC 3D rendering rig the day I went freelance. I was using a cheese grater on life support, and it was working great, but to rebuild that on my own STILL would have cost me $5000, and I built my PC that is pretty close (single proc vs dual) but its still a screamer for half the cost.
