I still have one of these. MP 2011. Upgraded the internals. I am just 1sec slower than the fastest MP. This is the beauty of a modular system. Upgrade the internals, have a longer productive life and still have a damn fast computer. The trash can design is impressive but not functional for Pro users. The "New" modular Mac Pro.

One thing: I would like to see not just one "pro" display, but multiple Apple-branded options. I also think Apple should offer a really-nice-but-not-"pro" 27" display for MacBook Pro customers.

I think they call that model LG.![]()
The report doesn't say next year.... it says not this year. You are assuming it will be next year. There is no information that explicitly says the Mac Pro will be ready next year. It's all hope at this point. Even tech can be prone to fake news.
Wow this is a huge middle finger to those who bought the current Mac Pro. To see it only get 1 iteration before its scrapped for another design.
"i'm so happy with my mac pro! ^_^ "
*reads this news*
"OMG MY MACHINE SUCKS! they are going to scrap it already!"
something like this?
Um....
Where I can I buy it?
I read the news, but on apple.com it's still the old 4/6-core configurations.
My thinking is that they couldn't justify selling such an outdated display going forward, and realized that the current Mac Pro was not sustainable and unable to be upgraded with graphics that could be adequately cooled to run these big displays. You see, the Mac Pro can run a whole lot of external monitors at once. It would need to be able to run a whole pile of 5K displays. They would be blasted for updating the 5K Thunderbolt but not letting the Mac Pro use it. Furthermore, there were the rumors (and patents from several years ago) talking about having an external graphics card in the display for MacBooks, which their interview said comprises the vast majority of Pro users. They probably want to develop that and get it working right, so they passed it off to a display partner. Furthermore, even if these other reasons aren't true, the fact that the displays look ugly and had the wifi interference issues that had to be recalled is probably enough for Apple to get back in the business. Furthermore, they probably don't want those ugly displays all over their new flagship campus. For that reason alone I figured they'd be coming back, although one could argue that most people at Apple could survive using an iMac. I figured if they didn't bring back their displays, they would add target display mode to the 5K iMac in the next refresh. No mention of this on Apple's site, and why would they get out of the display business and then announce in a year from now they will be getting back into it? They also never comment on future updates, why would anyone buy an iMac now with their comment today?
Those can be in VR, those can be in certain kinds of high end cinema production tasks where most of the software out there that’s been written to target those doesn’t know how to balance itself well across multiple GPUs
Maybe you forgot to quote his three posts telling us how he wasn't here anymore, but that was in response to bpeeps adulation of the other sunshiny forums he mentioned, Jack. Was simply encouraging him to go back to where he wouldn't feel threatened by differing opinions concerning Apple's recent amazingness.
