Apple Says Claims Face ID Was Downgraded to Speed Up Production Are 'Completely False'

No one knows that for sure though. This is why I said.. what else can Apple say right now? They have to say it's false.. even if it's true. No way on earth they'll admit an issue. There might not even be one. I've worked hand in hand with many companies who downgrade specifications to make the market. Happens more often than not.. doesn't mean there's a problem with the finished good. Should be interesting once these devices hit the market though.
...You realize that a lie of that magnitude would definitely mean FTC investigation right? This isn't a case of lesser battery life, or a different audio codec than described, this would be out and out fraud on the security claims of FaceID.

So they respond to this, but will continue to let rumors about supply float?

Really smells of apple being behind the supply rumors.

We'll know for sure by this time next month if some people have issues with FaceID. However, I wouldn't put it past Apple to do this in order to avoid another, potentially bigger release delay that would negatively affect their stock.

You are definitely looking at it differently from what I am saying in my statement. You are correct it's fraud. That's not what I'm saying though, completely different.

BGR crowd is having a field day, false or not
BGR is a site full of a bunch of hack writers who puke out literally, sometimes even word-for-word, the same information that other good writers pour into their own publications. The simple fact that they have not disabled their dumpster fire of a comment section (where the fourteen year old internet badasses like to hang) after all of these years is proof enough that site is just looking for any and all clicks it can get. You won't find any original content from that site, ever.

The fact that they are refuting it makes me more confident they did change the specs. There is a play on words here. They could reduce the acceptable manufacturing spec without changing the design. Somehow they increased yields... either they just miraculously got better at making the parts, or they widened the range of acceptable parts. This has nothing to do with changing the design. Whether or not it has any real effect on the use of the parts, no one will probably ever know.

The excitement for the iPhone X itself is way higher than the excitement for FaceID... They kind of go hand in hand but a lot of people are cautious and unsure about FaceID while remaining excited for the other features of the new phone.

Or: original requirement "1 in 10 million". Spec: meet requirement. New requirement "1 in 1 million". Spec: unchanged (meet requirement). So Apple can say the spec is unchanged even if they underlying requirements have...

The way Tim Cook weasels his words I would not put such word-lawyering past Apple.

Brevity because on a Mobile device

The excitement is keeping the phone secure until the authorized user wants to get in, and then making it seamless for said user.

Just like TouchID did four years ago, FaceID is doing now.
I think we have very different definitions of what is exciting mate to be honest. I would never have said Touch ID was exciting, just a feature that I use without really thinking about it. Face ID is being hyped as an ‘exciting’ replacement but it’s anything but if we are honest to ourselves.
