If this was a support document updated today... this means it either wasn't noticed during materials and product testing, or that it was noticed but not considered such an issue that they would include it in a support document. Either way, it's either a lack of in depth and rigorous product testing, or them just expecting people not to notice such things. Both bizarre to have been overlooked by such a big and successful company.

Man the stainless steel looks more durable. I wonder if this is an issue with the natural titanium as well. Watch ultra owners must have some experience I take it?

Owning a Titanium PowerBook G4 I never saw any discoloration anywhere. It must be some weird paint layer that's on the case causing this. The only thing that concerns me is the strength. While the PowerBook G4 was indeed very light and flat at the time, the material looked brittle on the inside. I had a broken hinge once and the tear looked different from what I'd expect from steel or plain iron.

In a support document updated today, Apple indicates that fingerprints might "temporarily alter the color" of the titanium frame on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Fortunately, Apple says this is not a permanent condition, as the fingerprints can be wiped off just like on any other iPhone to restore a clean finish.

"For iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the oil from your skin might temporarily alter the color of the outside band," says Apple. "Wiping your iPhone with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth will restore the original look."

Photos of iPhone 15 Pro models with visible fingerprints on the titanium frame have been circulating on social media since the devices were announced last week, but customers should not be concerned about permanent damage. None of this information should be a surprise, but now it is on the record from Apple.

All of the iPhone 15 models launch this Friday, with orders already beginning to arrive to customers in Australia and New Zealand.

Lol. Gotta love it when Apple waits until after everyone has bought theirs to be honest about this stuff.

It’s a feature, you can remotely unlock all your fingerprint reader equipped gear, just by leaving your phone unattended for a while.

(Disclaimer: this feature already exists on all other models, it’s just more flashy now)

Is it me or does the titanium finish look like cheap stainless steel trim from a fridge?
I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max with the clear case to see the beautiful natural Titanium color. It looks premium, certainly not cheap. It's a fantastic upgrade from my previous iPhone, the 6s Plus.

I really liked the iPhone bumper case on my '4'. Wish there was one for the iPhone 14 Pro I currently own.

Who isn't using a case though. Not excusing the design choice by Apple, but I've dropped enough iPhones over the years to know better than to go in the nude.
me.

Haven't used a case in 2 years, nil issues. just dont throw your phone around and take care of it.
It costs as much as a Macbook, I dont throw that around either.

Totally agree and the additional weight savings would absolutely be worth it
I like the material difference. It adds to the premium vibe. Also aluminum is super soft, I’ve always preferred harder materials for handheld or mobile devices. Ti being twice as hard but only 50% heavier is worth it to me. Stainless is nice too but I don’t like a mirrored finish, and the weight does get more cumbersome.

🤣
All of the people who complained about the stainless steel being a fingerprint magnet and how titanium will be a welcome refresh.

The TiBooks were painted; the phones use a different kind of anodizing/coating.

So fingerprints show up on stuff now? When did this absolutely terrible nightmare start?

Hey I just looked at the side of my phone and it’s covered in fingerprints. How long has this been going on?
I guess no one has ever owned stainless steel appliances?

We all will have cases anyway so doesn't really matter, and the weight improvement makes it worth it. But I thought everyone said one of the benefits of this material is that it doesn't show fingerprints as much as the previous material, but instead seems like it shows just as much or maybe worse? Again still an improvement but wondering why so many suggested wouldn't have a fingerprint issue.
