I work for HP to scan you wanna use the app HP Smart not the mac printer settings one
Can I ask why HP scanners need their own app? Are they just porting code from Windows? I feel as if HP is large enough that they would have a contact within Apple to help update drivers and whatnot if HP felt the need to make hardware changes that would break standard setup protocol.

Image Capture/Preview/Photos is why I am moving to Android/Windows. This forum has been my life for the last four years with my iPhones:

I cannot get *any* Mac to see my iPhones, from macOS 10.12 through 11.

I was finally able to get my photos off of my phones using a Chromebook!

Apple's only solution was to use iCloud Photos.
Crazy! Apple has great marketing to give the impression the hardware and software are perfect. I already moved on from Apple earlier this year. "Only solution?" Wow.

Yeah... Apple's offerings have turned to absolute garbage over the years.

Obviously the software Apple acquired from NeXT was great, but I think they also got a lot of great engineers and managers out of that. In the time since, they've lost all the talent. Now it seems like they're run by business people who are more interested in pumping stuff out than actually having it be any good.

Meanwhile, Microsoft had the opposite happen. They had been run by business people, and now they're full of technical leadership. As a result, the quality of Windows has massively improved over the past 5 years.
Yes, Apple has turned into Boeing. More emphasis on profit and squeezing suppliers for every penny.

Windows 10 has been fantastic. Office is excellent. OneDrive is excellent. Windows 11 is great. As Steve Jobs said, "they are firing on all cylinders." They have some good leadership in place.

Yesterday, I applied Monterey 12 beta 21A5304g, and I lost all admin rights. Although my Mac stills says I am an admin, and I can create new admins, when I look at permissions on the drive, I have only read access and when i attempt to add myself, I receive "The operation can't be completed because you don't have the necessary permissions." Thoughts how to recover without reimaging? Yesterday I ran migration assistant, removed the existing admin account, and had MA add a new admin (same name) and restore all 1.2 GB of data, at the end - still no access. Outlook and many other apps are crashing as they don't have permissions to write temp files.
That's too bad. I remember permission issues in the past with OS X and it was a hassle. No problems on Win10/11.

I don’t work for HP but have been working as Mac software support for 15 years. One of the common fixes to users issues, or advices to avoid them, was “do not use or install the rubbish software which comes with your printer or scanner”. Apple built-in drivers worked just fine. This is the first or second time in Mac history where there is such issue, and has probably something to do with Apple tightening screws on security. People who want to run to Windows/Android because of this need to seriously CTFO or, bye. Oh and BTW, coincidentally, happy user of HP all-in-one laser printers and would always recommend them to everyone.

My Canon scanner thankfully has been working fine. But why is the Image Capture app the only one that repeatedly opens in a tiny window. It's an image scanner! No matter how you resize the window, when you restart the app it goes back to an unusable tiny size. It's the only app that behaves that way, and it started with Big Sur. I've sent feedback to Apple. Hopefully that's fixed in the next OS.

Ok, since the topic of scanners has come up. What are people's recommendations for good MacOS scanners? iOS support is a bonus.

The last one I had used a SCSI port, and now I am getting pressure from the co-inhabitant that we need to declutter our archives. We have boxes of looseleaf documents of many, many sizes.

I would like to avoid a printer, if possible. We have a Brother printer that works well enough and yet I still hate them.
We are using four scanners, that work with Mac.

I am actually using two scanners: an Epson V600 at my home office and I also have an older Mustek 1200S A/3 scanner for digitalizing line drawings. My father has/is using an Epson V19 and my sister's family is using the scanner built into the multifunctional Brother DCP-L2550DN.

These manufacturers had always solid Mac drivers. As far as I know/remember.

Oh, and if you have an older scanner, than there is this excellent piece of software: VueScan. Totally worth the registration and checking out.

My old scanner, which I might actually have, was v e r y slow... I wouldn't waste my time trying to get it running, but it's cool that someone is trying to continue to offer support. Which do you like the best?

“It just works”

Makes me wonder if all the permissions issues people are experiencing are a feature and not a bug. Waiting for the time when Apple locks down macOS to where people don’t have permissions to install apps outside of the App Store to “protect the children.”

The app works on multi platform and all the printer ranges, you don’t have to but it’s better to use it

Does Apple ever bother apologising for the inconvenience bugs cause to users….. or are we just supposed to be grateful they eventually try to resolve them?
Apologise for inconvenient bugs? They do not even apologise for battery scams or knowingly selling a faulty keyboard for three years. They would have more support if they were not so arrogant, deceitful, and dishonest.

Actually, all works really well. If I have to choose, I would say, the Epson scanners (the V600 has the biggest DMax) and Epson Scan utility... is a solid tool... but Brother's iPrint&Scan isn't bad either.

Is this a sign Apple will retire the Image Capture application, given there are two widespread issues related to it and Apple does nothing?
Probably. I guess they will iOSify it - something like scan to Files app. Btw what’s the other issue?

This also happens in with the office365 updater. Its gives the error when you try to from the office apps. But will launch from its real location in /library

Apple solution: Buy an M1 Mac

Was wondering why my Canon printer scanner wasn’t working properly - I blamed it on Canon not offering updates but instead it’s Timmy’s fault!
