I would love to stop paying for DropBox, but iCloud Drive just isn’t quite there yet. I still pay for 2TB for my whole family to store photos, and it’s great for that.

What an embarrassing mess. I know people at Apple work hard and care, but something is very wrong in the software function at Apple.
And this is a why:

" to create products that serve everyone, we believe in including everyone"...
...regardles of skill and talent....

So, you're saying the median Apple engineer lacks skill or talent?

It doesn't matter. Skill or talent is secondary in the decision making at companies that fully commit to the diversity and inclusivity ideology like Apple does.
Once low mid and top level management is infested with unqualified personell that got their position to fill a quota or other reasons than skill and talent - these people will see more skilled workers as a threat and do whatever they can to sabotage them.

Apple should buy Box.com , they already have everything running they just need customers.

That’s the new Apple. How’s that photoshop on iPad coming along for all those that bought iPads just for that purpose? Lol
That is a question you might want to address to Adobe, the company that makes Photoshop. You do understand that Adobe and Apple are different companies, right? Adobe announced something and has yet to deliver. Seems unlikely that anyone would buy an iPad Pro just to use an app that was announced with a ship date about a year in the future. However, anyone who did can try Affinity Photo or Pro Create both saving money and having a better experience that any of Adobe’s products.

Questions:

1. Can anyone access the 'private link' if they have it, or only the person you send it to?

2. Does this feature (optionally) include a password facility, or is it like sharing an Apple Notes note (for only the shared-to's eyes)?

iCloud Photo Library sharing coming along with this maybe? Would like my family (through family sharing is fine) to all be able access the same iCloud photos library.

Hmm... a few months later all mentions of "iCloud folder sharing" and "Coming this spring" have been removed from macOS Catalina page (https://www.apple.com/macos/catalina). Previously it was changed from "later this year" to "this spring", so I hope at least they'd get it done by next macOS version - waiting for that Web page already!

UPDATE: It seems I have made a mistake, the page where the info is provided is actually "All new features" (https://www.apple.com/macos/catalina/features) and I just checked the wrong home page one today. (But at least this is good news. It would have been even better having the feature released on time, so we wouldn't have to check for its status every now and then, but...) :)

TMI: I want this in iCloud too simply because I don't want to rely on/trust another party for my files - Apple is already "in" because these files represent code that will later be submitted for them to review (although indeed in compiled form, for publishing apps to to AppStore). At the moment the code is stored in some private git repo folders on my iCloud account - for backup and "use anywhere" purposes - but I would love to be able to collaborate with a (sometimes remote) colleague, sharing the folder as a common git remote. (Note: macOS Server also discontinued git repos some time ago, so we'd need to configure a custom Web server for git repos, but we'd better use a cloud solution rather than our own server anyway!)

I still see it there:

I have learned to not rely on Apple for anything service-based. I'll happily pay for Dropbox or Sync.Com than iCloud. IMO Apple makes a service -- take your pick, mail, file sync, file sharing, photos, etc -- and then adds just enough stuff to it to make it non-standard in both technology and workflow to make it generally flaky or unusable. Plus I hate how for some things (ie pictures) in iCloud you can't access them at the file system line -- you have to use an app for that --- compared to Dropbox photo-sharing, I can pop right into the folder in Finder and get to work.

I use iCloud for the *bare* minimum of things and certainly for nothing critical.

Indeed, it seems I forgot where I found it first time, a few months before. It was under "All new features" page. :) (Strangely, I see now also "coming this spring" for something else on the main page, so this got me bit time.) Apologizes for the spam. And thanks arn for the check.

Anyway, let's see if they make it. The weather (here) is "springy" already.
