So, does this confirm it was only iPhone 6/6+ firmwares that had issues? If they only provided links to the iPhone 6/6+ 8.0 ipsw's.

That's too slow, it should have been out yesterday. Now people can't use their new phones as phones.

I do admit that if this happened to Android I'd say "see, that's why android sucks ass so much". Shame, this shouldn't happen. Not at this level.

Yeah. And maybe Tim shouldn't give these lazy programmers Thanksgiving week off. He's encouraging sloth.

:apple:

I would actually blame the QA department more than the programmers.

And the programmers have earned their break. :p (4000 new APIs, which is the most amount of APIs introduced in any OS X release, Swift, extensions, etc are not trivial)

This internal letter from Tim Cook was recently leaked:

Remember that 3-day paid holiday extension I gave you earlier this morning for doing such a great job with both the iPhone 6 and iOS 8? Yeah, well, you can now suck it. Fix this s***.

- Tim

It's good Apple is letting people download the .ipsw file instead of the .zip file.
Easier and less steps.

Has anyone tried this in Yosemite?

I can't seem to get it to work. I have iOS 8 downloaded but never to get the option to install it.

There is obviously no oversight in:
a: Design and Product Development
b: Software Integration
at Apple.

I would actually blame the QA department more than the programmers.

Everyone who allowed an x.0.1 release to be fastracked owns the blame for this. QA, programmer, project manager, build manager, release coordinator, package team, department head, director, everyone.

I believe Windows will still download it with a ZIP extension. But no need to unzip it. Just rename it with .ipsw extension instead.

So Apple released a faulty update, pulled it and told affected users how to roll it back. It happens.

Believe it or not sometimes a defect in a release can slip through any QC process - the notion of 100% perfect quality control is an illusion. For example, Android users (I know from experience at the time and it is documented online) had OTA updates for Froyo, Gingerbread and even Jelly Bean that literally bricked phones and tablets. It doesn't excuse Apple and I hope they are also investigating how this bug got through testing but it does show that these things happen no matter how well you plan and no matter your intentions.

Later on that night at Apple HQ.

Tim: You guys are so great, thank you soooo much for staying to try and fix this. Together we can fix this bug, its at the core of what we do. We find bugs .. and we.. fix it. We can make a difference and soon our beloved customers will be able to make calls again.. to connect with family once again. :apple:

I can't believe it has not been said yet: Steve would've NEVER allowed this.
;)

In all seriousness, iOS8 on my iPhone 6 Plus is ridiculously buggy.

You must not remember how buggy "iPhone OS" 2.0 was. I remember having to straight-up restore my 3G several times during the initial release. Very unstable.

(That said, the current situation is inexcusable.)

with or without this update I always have No Service with ATT.. So i mean nothing new for me.

Now Apple would be begging for fragmentation!

When you have the community fragmented, your problems are isolated like in Android where new ***** may create problems but overall communities will not have big issues and Google could silently blame it on bloatware and other layers that needs to be developed!

So there were critical bugs in 8.0 and now 8.0.1

I think I'll wait a bit after 8.0.2 is released just in case. Good quality assurance Apple :(

Luckily I passed on this one and my 5s is collecting dust on the shelf. Coming back when iphone gets removable battery and Apple gets its ___ together.

Hey I'm trying to revert back to iOS8 and it says firmware is not compatible? But I downloaded it from their link?

iTunes is up to date btw....

Did you download iOS 8.0 or 8.0.1? You need the 8.0 file, the other one won't work. I had downloaded the 8.0.1 file earlier and was thinking that my phone was bricked but it was just because they've stopped letting it be applied as far as I can tell.

Coming back when iphone gets removable battery and Apple gets its ___ together.

"Coming back" implies you were once an iPhone owner. The iPhone never had a removable battery and never will, so unless you had the only iPhone on the planet with a removable battery you were never an iPhone user to begin with. No loss for Apple here.

I've heard a lot about rumored features like "makes phone calls" and "can be unlocked."

If they're half as good as they sound, this will be one awesome upgrade!

I updated my 6 to 8.0.1 and lost my cell coverage and Touch ID. I reverted back to iOS 8.0 and got it back. Why are people acting like their phone is doomed? Just downgrade.
