This is of course “Macrumors.com” and not a court of law. Apple is one voice and then there are others. Big corporations are not the only ones with a voice of authority. Let each reader put a value on each post and come to their own conclusions. It’s called the free flow of information - the internet. All sides all the time…
No. If a reader has some first hand facts about their use, show it and present it to us uncolored. But wild nonsense and speculation doesn't help anyone on here at all. And neither does getting mad when we ask for you to back up your nonsense with facts or a source or proof.

You said it's wild speculation why does it have to be wild speculation ? Since quality control is no longer the same even final version now feels like beta software with issues and glitches.
Again, what does your reply have to do with what I am talking about? I never said anything about quality control.

I noticed that a lot of YouTubers make faces like Luke Miani is making in his video thumbnail. I forget where, but I recall seeing something, somewhere basically saying that thumbnails with people making real life emoji faces increase clicks and was encouraged by YouTube.

They have an opposite affect on me, I tend to avoid videos with people making goofy faces on the thumbnails. Anyone else like that?
Yep, not only do I not watch them, I click the 3 vertical dots and select "Don't recommend channel", so that I don't get bothered by their stupid click bait ever again.

I am not mad - you added that without evidence. I would not consider camera damage after watching those videos “wild nonsense” either, camera sensors get damaged just by cleaning them wrong and the tolerances in cellphone optics are very tight. Buzzing and shaking like in the videos are outside normal operating parameters and damage can occur was well as not. Many here have already decided to return defective units. I would have done the same…

Cite your data where it states that this actually was physically affecting anything or explain why your post is not pure histrionics. Even this write up goes to great lengths not to claim that.
It's too early to call, and trusting Apple saying it's not really damaged is also too early to call. Sit back and enjoy the show. But I will say this, a heavy vibration on something that has to be as exact as a lens, I wouldn't trust, at least until more data comes available..

it's macrumors.com not macfacts.com so yeah it's mainly based on rumors and speculations. Many rumors and speculations turned out to be true such as the macbook notch and the dynamic island.

Your little "have a good evening" after all I asked for was a source seemed mad, instead of showing proof of your wild nonsense. And that is what it is to speculate that the sensor is somehow scratched by whatever this problem is. You made it up based on your limited knowledge of cameras. You have no clue what is really happening in there, and neither do I. If you had a photo that showed a scratched sensor or a source that showed that, it would be different. Until then, wild speculative nonsense.

Do you see how in this case, where people are worried and don't know what to do, that a rumor or speculation can be harmful to them? It is not like they are speculation that something will get a notch.

I have a plane to catch early in the morning.

This was all fun folks. Goodnight…

Meanwhile the crazies were out with pitchforks talking about how this was going to cost Apple BILLIONS and end Tim Cook's career. Yawn, as usual. Nice touch with the dime-a-dozen youtube video with the host making an exaggerated face, and some buzzword and an arrow on the title card. Way to contribute, MR.
Meanwhile the loyalists were quick to defend and say that they were just taking pictures the wrong way and nothing was wrong.

Speaking as someone that experienced this with a banking app (Chase UK) not social media. I’m not gonna lie I was confused and concerned when it happened. 14 Pro space black uk and day one for those interested.

I haven’t returned my phone as I’m waiting to see if any lasting damage or issues.

The issue focusing I can only so far say is down to fixed focal length for verification being different now the cameras have a different end stop.

Will see in real world usage if I have issues etc
Curious, did your phone/camera also shake and make noise? The only "issue" I experienced (14 Pro) was Friday in the Capital One app using the camera to take a picture of my license. It wouldn't focus and I gave up. However I experienced nothing like severe shaking or any grinding noise thankfully. After hearing about this issue I ended up turning off camera access to all apps in the privacy settings and will await this update to be safe.

There will be a class action lawsuit against Apple regarding this situation. Of course this will be settled and all 250,000 users that participated will receive 14 cents each for pain and suffering. The lawyers will walk away laughing with $2 million! That will teach Apple!

All of my pictures look like this. Like the lens is filthy. Its not and its a brand new phone.

Yeah, that's essentially the same vibe photos have when taken with a $1000+ DSLR/mirrorless lens that's been dropped, sending one of the glass elements inside out of alignment and/or cracking one of them entirely.

I think a few seconds of the OIS mechanism going wild likely doesn't do any damage, but if you let it continue to vibrate while you sit there puzzled and observe it, flip the phone over and look at the lens, put it up to your ear to hear the noise better, etc - that's plenty of time to self destruct either the mechanism that enabled focusing and/or the lens elements themselves.

This will probably be case by case, and it reminds me exactly of the Boot Camp bug with the 16" Intel 2019 MBPs when they first released. If you installed Boot Camp and went into Windows 10 during the first week or two of the notebook's release date, there was a high chance the speakers would emit an insanely loud screeching noise due to a boot camp driver bug and there was a good chance the speaker driver was then blown, requiring (at the time) a full replacement of the whole MacBook Pro.

So with this, I think it's likely that opening Snapchat, seeing the issue and quickly closing the app does no damage at all - vs like what Luke did in his video where he got it to happen, filmed it, observed it, flipped it over so the viewer could see the camera unit shaking, etc. That's a lot more violent shaking time.

I had a similar problem with a 6sPlus where the back camera kept on shaking and the camera was making a clicking sound as it tried to focus. I was able to fix the problem by putting a magnet on the phone on the upper right with super glue on the iPhone case. It solved the problem for over 3 years until I got my 14 Pro Max. I got to wonder if this is the same thing. See this video:

You accuse others of exaggerating while you talk about crazies with pitchforks?

Unfortunately it's YouTube own algorithm that prefers videos with those thumbnails, so creators have to adapt. It's basically the thumbnail template for pretty much most tech videos, even MKBHD (photo of the YouTuber side by side with the product).
That’s like saying the Devil made me do it.

Yeah, hopefully is like this. I don’t want to return my
Phone. It’s just too much of a hassle

If your workplace require you to wear certain uniform, would you rebel? For some YouTubers, YouTube is their source of income, thus whatever YouTube says, they will comply.
I would never take a job that I knew ahead of time I would have to comply with arbitrary and capricious rules and I have quit a few jobs that tried to push them on me later.

Not that wearing a uniform necessarily would be a problem depending on the profession.
