Installment plan pricing has made many people not think about that. Roll it into your cell bill and you don’t see the cost. Trade in and trade up programs mean that costlier phones keep people buying and that while plans have gone down slightly, carriers make money on hardware. Remember that the carriers get a wholesale price so while it is interest free financing of the device, the phone is still making them money. And on a monthly basis.
I agree completely. I trade up every year through Verizon so going to the iPhone X means my monthly payment for hardware jumps from about $47 to about $52 per month. I know I am agreeing to buy a $1,149 phone but I also know that I will only pay for half of that before trading it in on the iPhone XI (or whatever they choose to call the next version). Basically, I will always be paying for my new phone and it will probably continue to go up about $5 per month every year. I can live with that.

Sales were off the charts....as was their website which was a massive bollock-bag to get working properly when trying to go through the upgrade route

Demand is probably closer to the iPhone 6s or 7 at launch, just with less supply. Still decent when you consider how many sales the iPhone 8 would've taken from iPhone X.

Crap. 17 after is about when my order went through, and that's when it slipped from November 3rd. I blame the crappy Apple Store App that us iPhone Upgrade Program members were forced to use this year. The website came up for me fine but I couldn't get that damn app to load until I rebooted my device. Even so it gave me a bunch of errors and I didn't receive any confirmation email until nearly four hours after launch.

I'm super irritated because I woke up on time and everything. It was supposed to be a simple button press to confirm everything that I was already pre-approved for. When is Apple going to let us iPhone Upgrade Program members opt-in for yearly upgrades? I want an email the week before where I can just set what I want and then have it show up on launch day. I want it to be like a subscription service.

Ditto - a subscription service would be ideal in this situation. At least for big fans that truly want a new iPhone on launch day every year.

Strong words from Apple. Will be interesting to see how revenue shakes out next week and in Jan.

AAPL is up 3% today but GOOG is up 6%, AMZ up 12.5%, INTC up 6.5%, MSFT up 6.5%, respectively, after each reported strong earnings last night. AAPL get's its chance next week. But even without hard numbers it seems like there is a decent market for a $1200 phone. (Disclosure: I bought a 256 X).

My hope is that the iPhone 9 will have the features of the iPhone X plus better cameras and A12 next year. I will classify this iPhone X as the iPad 3 with its short time on the market before the next model comes out.

With this, they now want to push people to rush to Apple stores and create long queues to show the world how popular their underwhelming, overpriced device is. Pathetic

That's an interesting conspiracy theory you're spinning here, but I think Apple would disagree with you for this "Underwhelming" device.

It's easy to appear "off the charts" when the "chart" shows minimal stock available in the first place. Apple is always good with the spin, although this same spin, year after year, is becoming tiresome. I am REALLY hoping for SOMETHING truly new and amazing from Apple soon. Just not sure they have that mojo anymore.

You didn't read what Apple said - they said "demand" was off the charts. They gave no indication about how many physical units would be delivered on launch day - just because initial stock is sold out doesn't mean people aren't sill ordering them. So when they say demand is off the charts they are comparing the iPhone X demand to all its predecessors. This has nothing to do with initial supply.

This is ROFL material. Its a headline that pre-orders are "off the charts" and based on sell outs... but we all know they had like 1/10th the supply they usually have because they've rushed this product out and having trouble making them.

link to some proof? something other than rumors? fact is no one has a clue how many they had

I guess the iPhone X was too expensive.

Although I can't imagine spending that much on a phone. I guess plenty of people could care less and will pay whatever it takes.
It’s not about paying whatever it takes. The plus is only a little bit cheaper relatively. This is probably the device or tool we use most, for so many different purposes. For some that justifies the price, for other it doesn’t.

Pretty sure tmo was never at Nov 3rd....

Exactly. I got email confirmation at 12:04. Never saw 11/3 release day. It was immediately at 11/10-11/17 for me. Only release day for store-pickup. But I wasn't thinking and didn't do that.

Mine from T-Mobile is shipping on the 2nd for delivery on the 3rd...

Did you order from Apple.com or the Apple App? Right now it looks like if you ordered directly through Apple, there have been zero people who ordered T-Mobile that have release day delivery, unless they did in-store pickup.
