Nice that you ignored my question and then went on a rant... Is there Porn on those Apps?
☐ Yes
☐ No
I already answered this! Yes! You're seriously asking whether literal sex hookup apps provide pornography?!?
So why do you think Children should have access to porn?
Of course not. Did you even read what I wrote?

I'll try again. If Apple had a genuine, logical argument to offer about children accessing pornography then it would apply its own alleged standards to itself. Apple would stop distributing sex hookup apps and apps such as X which all feature deluges of pornography. But Apple hasn't done that. Apple, in fact, distributes pornographic apps, the ones that Apple favors or at least tolerates. And that's rather the point, that Apple shouldn't hold a monopoly on distributing apps.

It is not Apple's business what I do with the hardware I bought from them.

Most large US companies, Apple included, are censoring everything to Disney like "family friendly" standards because they don't want to "offend" any pressure group.

It's good that this is ending, at least in certain territories.

Edit: and stop being worked up about this porn app. Ask yourself how many other apps that touch "controversial" subjects have been denied by Apple since they started with the iOS app store...

small point of quibble with what you wrote (I largely agree with what you say): you're right, it's not apple's business what you do with the HW, but the software is a different thing.

You own the HW - use it however you like, use it as a chopping board or a baseball bat if you like. It's yours and Apple has no claim to it (nor do they claim to).

The OS and much of the SW on the other hand, you do not own. You are merely licensing it from Apple, which limits what you can and cannot do with it.

The law says it is. They could have left the TikTok app on the store when it was banned and would have been charged $5k per download. It is very much their business.

if the 30% was the sticking point, would porn apps not be on the official app store then?
No. Because they are banned. And have rejected them before.

Whilst there are many who disapprove of pornography, there are many non adult places where you can purchase it. Book shops sell pornographic novels, newsagents sell pornographic magazines, retail stores sell pornographic DVD's, cable and satellite broadcasters have pornographic channels and it's all legal. Why should the app store be any different?. People may not like it but tough because that is how the world works.

People always use children as an excuse to have pornography banned because they say it is too easy for children to access. All the above example's I have given can be very easily accessed by children because an adult can make the purchase and give it to the child. Are we to ban book stores, newsagents, retail stores and cable/satellite broadcasters because they are unable to control what adults do with the stuff they purchase?

as long as the porn app is clean as in has no malware or virus then it should be allowed in an EU app store.
So what’s the basis for banning apps? Like any store, the company can decide what to sell. Why is Apple held to a different standard? Because of a love of porn? Get off it. Do you think Apple should let terrorist apps?

But apple doesn't present the EULA before you buy the hardware, only after.

if this argument has a legal basis (I don't know, not a lawyer), surely someone would have sued (or should sue) Apple and every other technology company for this?

Lol @ big tech companies trying to regulate porn in their own interests. Tech and American politics are getting more and more interconnected. It's interesting how apple thinks of the children as if they're not gonna figure out how to do a web search.

Also there's a social implication here... apple does not own your phone once you bought it, you do with it whatever you want, it doesn't affect you that other people do whatever they want with their smartphones. Of course you will keep hearing excuses about China, AI and the "woke culture" brainwashing your children, but they're just fearmongering.

What’s how the world works? What point are you even making? Some stores sell porn, so all have to? Owners of stores should be able to choose what they want to sell, and they generally can. That’s actually how the world works.

I think this is the least of our worries tbh, the way things are going I think those of us in Europe will be forced to switch totally to Android soon as relations sour and we pull back from using American goods lol. A bit of cheeky porn on an app is a drop in the ocean :p

If GM doesn't do the thing you want, but Ford does, you buy the Ford.

And if there's large number of people that don't like GM and Ford, a new car company will be born and offer the thing that people want. If enough people buy it, they survive. If not enough people buy it, clearly there wasn't a large enough demand for that one feature, contrary to what people might think.

If there was only one company like Ford that is actively trying to destroy new car companies from trying to compete, that would be illegal (monopoly).

This is how it has always worked.

Having a monopoly or a duopoly (Google and Apple) is not illegal but there do need to be laws that prevent those companies from exploiting their monopoly/duopoly. This has always been the case across every industry.

I assume that the alternative app distributions would not allow an ISIS app, with instructions on how to prepare and execute terrorist actions.

Therefore, they must have a list of allowed and disallowed types of apps.

Therefore, they can't say they are neutral and it's nothing to do with them. They have decided to have pornography as an allowed type of app to profit from.

Except terrorism is an illegal activity in most jurisdictions. Depending on how you define terrorism.

Hey, is atheism allowed in Apple's app store? That would also offend the religious.

They are absolutely right though. Apple has developed a safe and closed environment, but then came the EU and it took the safety enitrely away. Which honestly is strange since the DSA would limit an App Store making Porn Apps available to children.
100%. This is what I want with the Apple ecosystem. Again, if you don't want a walled garden, then go to Android. Apple created this system/approach and should be allowed to continue it.

Maybe we also should remove all web browsers from the AppStore then, because you can watch p*rn on your device just by entering a url...

Freedom of choice means freedom of choice. The internet wouldn't be a thing if it wasn't for p*rn. Embrace it or hate it, that's called freedom.

Moral responsibility primarily lies with the individual. While authorities overseeing education systems may regulate certain aspects, and governments can act as guardians of public morality, the responsibility does not fall on private companies.

A private company has no obligation to allow or remove content that is not illegal. While they have the right to do so, making such decisions based on non-criminal content risks alienating segments of their user base—something no business should do selectively.

Apple understands this, and their statement only addresses the claim that this is the first porn app approved by them—which is false and misleading. In fact, Apple could take legal action against the Alt App Store for making false claims that mislead iPhone users who are not necessarily Apple's App Store customers but are iPhone users.

As a European citizen, this Porn app or the whole AltStore debacle makes me so sad. They sold us freedom of choice, but all we got is a crappy new store with a porn app and a game emulator. Is this the best developers can do when the walled garden is torn down? Don’t make me laugh.

Please, EU, give me a real choice. The choice to keep everything the way it was! Nobody is using it. Give it two years, and it will be completely dead.
Really? You think that the EU did this to "give you freedom"? You need to wake up from your delusion. The EU did this to spite American ingenuity. The EU did this to start to destroy an American company. The EU is a socialist concept pushing a "government knows best" agenda.

Let the free market work. No one is forced to use Apple products. There are those of us who choose the walled ecosystem that Apple is advocating. And, consumers bought Apple products knowing full well what they were buying into. If you want something else, then go with Android or start your own phone company.

There are many ideologies throughout the 27 EU nations. You could pick any of them and there will be an alternative view. Apple is very clear about what it will have in its App Store and the EU have just eroded that and put the responsibility on Apple.

This is what happens when the EU suck up to Spotify and Epic and take their counsel. And of course Epic are in the middle of this, promoting harmful apps for children. It’s in their DNA.

its funny we live in a world where Kids can eviscerate people in video games as gory as possibly but god forbid they see people have sex.
Not the world, it is the US that seems to think it would be bad for young people and kids to see a naked female breast etc. God forbid if some of these puritan lunatics turned on a TV channel at any time of the day or night in Northern Europe. Their eyes would burn.

Whilst a huge amount of the worlds population disapprove of pornography, as long as it's legal and does not break any laws in any country then porn app's should be allowed. Now one has appeared in the EU, I wonder how long it will take two of the worlds biggest adult entertainment companies to build an app and put them in the EU's Alt Store. Apple cannot stop every porn app, especially those adult entertainment companies that run legitimate businesses. People may disapprove of such businesses but the law allows them to operate and run a business and as such no one should be allowed to prevent a legitimate business from operating.

How soon would Apple find themselves in court being sued by adult entertainment companies because Apple keeps stopping their app from appearing on ANY app store.

So, because pornography is not illegal, then schools should have porn videos playing? You are trying to intellectualize your argument but have completely forgotten common sense. Allow me to correct this for you:

"Moral responsibility primarily lies with the individual who have the capability to make the decision."

Because children are not capable of making that decision and do need to be protected.

Companies have every right and ability to operate based on whatever moral or ethical principles they choose. For example, Chick-fil-A chooses to close its stores on Sunday. Why can they not do so "selectively" and "alienate" consumers who want to eat their delicious chicken sandwiches on Sunday? Of course, they can and do because that is the way they want to run their company. Similarly, Apple should be able to choose to have a walled ecosystem, but the EU with its totalitarian mindset has forced Apple to "open on Sunday". Apple isn't a perfect company, and it is focused on making a profit, but it is also focused on trying to be environmentally conscious and privacy minded, perhaps more so than any other company that I can think of.
