That is Apple trying to convince mini 6 owners that it’s “normal”. 😝Where is the peanut butter tho?

Size mate, it matters 😜This jelly thing is being blown out of proportion. If you’re concerned, just don’t buy it — unless you’re in a jam and you need an iPad Mini right now. But if you have the bread, I would recommend the iPad Pro. It is a butter device, I mean better. Wow, suddenly I’m hungry 🤪
Just stop. This is how screens work. This is my iPhone 11 Max Pro.iPhone 12 Pro here, none observed. Maybe you have a defective screen.
People who have an older Mini; is the jelly in Landscape on the old Mini's less noticeable than the jelly in portrait on the new Mini?
I find it less noticeable in landscape, but it's hard to say if it does it less or if it's just that the effect is mitigated over the landscape width.People who have an older Mini; is the jelly in Landscape on the old Mini's less noticeable than the jelly in portrait on the new Mini? I don't mean less noticeable because you use landscape less, but is it less noticeable when in landscape than the Mini 6's jelly is in portrait?
Because I'm mostly a landscape user, but it still is absolutely nauseating to me when using Portrait. Is landscape on the older Mini's that bad?
I find it less noticeable in landscape, but it's hard to say if it does it less or if it's just that the effect is mitigated over the landscape width.
I went yesterday and I'm afraid I noticed it while scrolling.I will go to a store first to decide. But this slow motion video crud SEE SEEE in slow motion its totally obvious is something i just ignore.
Same response as the 2018 iPad Pro having a bend in the chassis or butterfly keyboard where it’s normal for dirt to cause key to double register, be non responsive or need the entire keyboard replaced. Just invest in some compressed air, don’t permit dust particle to get into the gaps, etc basically use the butterfly keyboard in a clean room because yeah it’s a portable laptop. 😝I had no idea it was that easy to fix a problem by simply saying: “Is perfectly normal”.
See, that is the problem. You're holding it wrong.
No like, you actually are. Who uses iPads in portrait?
See, that is the problem.
Sequential scrolling means that either it does this in portrait or landscape. The other direction will show motion blurring rather than tearing.
And apple must decide which direction to design it in, and since it’s a tablet, they chose portrait mode to be worse. But because the mini is small, many people hold it in portrait, like a big phone.
Larger iPads are almost always used in landscape. Phones are almost always used in portrait for reading and so it’s going to be less pronounced.
Apple can’t win because using global refresh would cause major flickering instead.
But there is a possible software fix. Apple would have to use AI and predictive rendering to distort the image as you scroll so it looks straights, and this would vary based on the speed of scrolling.
It’s an upgrade because they added extra jelly this year. Duh!How is the display an upgrade?
It has the exact same specs
It's slightly larger, but the same PPI and the 8.3" isn't all usable for viewing content

I don’t even really see see saw effect in landscape on mini 5. Just looks like standard 60hz lag / ghostingThe thing is - Apple had already "decided", for multiple generations now, correctly I would argue, to optimize for portrait on the iPad Mini lineup.
Even when there is jelly scroll in landscape, it's way way harder to detect.
And this is an iPhone 11:
I don’t even really see see saw effect in landscape on mini 5. Just looks like standard 60hz lag / ghosting
I would even go so far as to say it looks the same in landscape or portrait to dispel the notion that one orientation is less performantsame. Not noticeable for me on the mini 5 really at all
You mean "Super Jelly Retina HD".They should add it to the feature list then...
8.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology
2266-by-1488 resolution at 326 pixels per inch (ppi)
Jelly Scrolling
Wide colour display (P3)
True Tone display
Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating
Fully laminated display...

Apple says the iPad Mini’s jelly scrolling isn’t a problem that needs to be fixed
It’s just how the iPad Mini is built.www.theverge.com
Verge says “ we don’t think it’s a deal-breakergiven how good the screen is otherwise and the inclusion of USB-C”
Then they say:
“ It also feels unusual that Apple isn’t concerned about it while managing to avoid jelly scrolling on both higher-end iPad models and even my previous-generation iPad Mini (which retailed for significantly less than the new model).”
unusual, indeed.
Dieter is now on thin jelly with the fruit company for letting a tweet of truth seep through. The verge reviews are consistently confusing… Especially their scoring system… Especially on Apple devices
Yeah, normally The Verge would jump at a chance to criticize an Apple product but I get the impression that Dieter really, really likes iPad minis. The verge reviews are consistently confusing… Especially their scoring system… Especially on Apple devices
Nope. That’s simply not true if they did this device wouldn’t be getting singled out. And I’m staying.Almost EVERY screen has had this, even since CRT days. Looking for trivial problems just to have a whinge. Go away.
Skewing is because of how the display is updated from one side to another.Sequential scrolling means that either it does this in portrait or landscape. The other direction will show motion blurring rather than tearing.
Well, it's more like flickering/flashing the backlight can be used to use simulate a global refresh. That's how LCD VR headsets work. But you need 90Hz+ to get rid of the noticeable flicker.Apple can’t win because using global refresh would cause major flickering instead.
Nah, that would cause more issues than it would solve. Any stationary portion of the screen would be distorted by whatever compensation they did for scrolling skew. But there is a possible software fix. Apple would have to use AI and predictive rendering to distort the image as you scroll so it looks straights, and this would vary based on the speed of scrolling.
