Can you plug in your phone with one hand? No? I can by laying it on the wireless charger, and I do this regularly. There is literally no hassle, it's a nice feature that comes at a cost for a different charger. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

For sure not easily. On the other hand, I was blessed being born with two hands, making plugging in a Lightning cable into my iPhone trivial.

I have simple question - does 15W charging of iPhone 12 works without MagSafe case? I currently have Spigen one and it bothers me...

Just stop with this trite nonsense. You can't demonstrate materially how that is bad for "the environment", just this vague concept that anything other than peak efficiency is somehow translated to "bad". Just stop. You have no idea what you're talking about, and neither does anyone else that belabors this empty talking point.
The environment matters when it helps margins and makes them look good.

I worked for Disney and they cared about the environment when it was beneficial for them, and disregarded it when it wasn’t.

You can’t argue about the hypocrisy of what they’re doing. They tout environmental responsibility, but want to move to wireless (in the next few years). You know how much extra energy they’re going to waste worldwide by doing this?

I’m not saying they shouldn’t push forward with wireless, they most certainly should. But the whole mantra that they are some sort of savior to the environment is cringe.

Do you only have one hand? And unless your MagSafe charger is stationary, facing up, you're still going to have to pick it up or turn it over and attach it -- requiring two hands. And I said I wasn't buying it in my post, because it's isn't worth it to me. If you want to buy it, by all means do it. I'm not gonna stop you.

Of course the MagSafe charger is stationary, it's not rolling around somewhere. Have you ever seen a wireless charging pad? It lays on a surface face up, you just lay the phone on top of it. And yes, it is quite easy to pick a phone up off the MagSafe charger and disconnect it with one hand, I can say that from personal experience. I have one hand free when I'm laying in bed with a wife/dog/cat on my other arm, or when I'm driving so I don't have to take a hand of the wheel, etc.

I just don't understand why people find it necessary to proclaim their preference to not buy something. Great, that's fine, do you go around to every forum for every product you don't buy and tell people it's not worth it to you?

In spite of the almost daily stories about minor downsides to MagSafe, I'm loving mine. Stuck in place with double sided tape, it makes the perfect charging/storage solution in my car. I just tuck the phone under the arm rest, and rely on wireless CarPlay for the trip knowing my battery will be in a good state on arrival.View attachment 978096
Oh what a great idea! Imma gonna have to try that!

I’ll personally just keep using my 20 bucks 30w charger from Ankor and a regular cheap wireless charging mat for overnight charging. This whole MagSafe charging seems to introduce issues that needed no fixing. All this money to charge so slow! No thanks

this whole mag safe thing is getting less appealing by the day

sh*tstorm incoming...

And the MagSafe disappointments keep coming

I've been using cheap Qi pads since purchasing iPhone XS two years ago. I don't see the appeal of magsafe yet.

Absolutely unnacceptable, I'm cancelling my order! 🙄

I didn't think you could order the mini yet?

Looks nice, I had a cheap Qi charging stand in a spare cup holder in a car I recently sold. No double sided tape needed. Easy to remove if I needed the 3rd cup holder.

So the company that portrays itself as environmentally conscious has made a device that effectively wastes 8w of power versus just plugging the phone in? I'm sorry but what is the point of MagSafe? Not having to fiddle for half a second with an actual plug? Stop trying to make the iPhone portless, Apple. Your implementation sucks and the drawbacks are absolutely not worth the miniscule benefits.

It been 2 weeks since I ordered my Magsafe charger and Clear case. Lets just say I will be returning it. I believe the best combination is the 20w adapter with usb-c to lightning. It charges 50% is about 30 min. I don't see the point in wireless charging especially Apples solution. Ive actually made charging automated. I have an older apple lighting dock connected to a smart HomeKit switch. Ive timed the charging time and its the same. I keep it docked and when the battery reaches less that 15% the automation triggers the switch. Once it reached 100% it turns off. I find this to be a better investment than the "Magsafe" crap.

Which is why I'll be sticking with Lightning. What does it take, like a second more to plug in a Lighting cable versus attaching MagSafe? Plus it's cheaper and more widespread. Not worth the hassle.
If I got a mini, I’d keep using Qi charging. It’s plenty fast for overnight charging, and I don’t have to bother with plugging it in - which is a tiny hassle every time - I just set it on the charging stand. And if I need to use it for some reason, I just pick it up and use it, no worry about “well, but I have to stay with X feet of where the phone was charging because it’s still plugged in” (and when I’m don’t I just set it back on the charging stand).

Agreed that MagSafe doesn’t look to be worth the hassle. But Lightning charging isn’t worth the hassle any more either (unless I’m in a huge hurry to get it charged right now). These days, my recurring thought about charging is, “I wish my iPad Air had Qi charging just like my iPhone, so I didn’t have to bother to plug it in, and didn’t have to plan ahead to charge my iPad.
