How do they know how to contact? Especially with the buying and selling of phones through third parties.

I've only noticed better battery life and charging times with my 5S. Granted, could be better, but I use it quite a lot on a daily basis.

Have you tried setting the phone up as new instead of restoring from a backup? If your current iOS 7 came from an image of iOS 6, it's likely software gunk. If you have a clean new OS image then I'm with you

Yep. I've also done all the usual BS: restored as new, lowered screen intensity, turn off wifi when not in the home, turn off cellular when not on the road, disabled background app refresh and pretty much everything else suggested on the web. It's definitely 7.

Exactly! But sadly this forum will have some folks that will piss on Apple for not being "perfect", since Apple is the only company that employees robots and not humans. ;)

Exactly. In a related point, I find it humorous when my pro-Samsung friends say how they're products are more reliable than Apple's. I'll have to show them my 2000.00 Samsung TV paperweight sitting in my basement. No company is perfect.

Must be pretty bad if Apple actually acknowledges that there is a problem. On the side note, I'd be happy to get half of the battery life Apple is claiming on any of my Apple devices.

No problem here with my 5S. I can easily get a day and a half on heavy usage. I've had each and every iPhone and this ones battery is by far the best I've ever seen on a mobile device. It's like having the 4S or 5 with a mophie juice pack.

Does this mean that Apple will contact the users who bought the defective units without the users contacting Apple first, as if they know it's certain batch of serial numbers that are defective?

Or does it mean that Apple will contact the users who have already complained about the issue?

And the FAIL continues at Apple...

7 r 0LL

An error in the manufacturing lane that has been detected doesn't mean total failure.

FAIL would be lots of GM vehicles with sunroofs manufactured over a period of at least 10 years, which have water leaks because some idiot in the assembly line forgot to puncture the seals of the drainage tubes going to the back of the vehicle, and the dealers were stupid enough to not notice it.

Until about 15 years ago, Samsung used to be half-crap. They have come up along way, but still are not perfect.
I have a 50" DLP that was great, except in some cases, the audio and video would be out of sync, due to a "processing bug".

Still, I would love to get one of their new thin LED TVs. Which model did you get, so I don't buy it?

So is this good or bad ?

Sadly that's because some fanboys on this forum believe Apple makes a "perfect" device. Then piss on companies like Microsoft, Samsung, etc. when they make mistakes.

OH THE IRONY!!

----------

my battery life is awesome. Im getting 10 hours+ of usage. I'm not even having to use my mophie most days.

ditto!!!

I get 8 - 10 hours easily out of my 5S, and that's listening to music, checking email, and playing a game for a few minutes each day

We had a mistake, here is a complete and free replacement.

Just how it should be.

Good on Apple.

Not sure it would be any different for any device that's under 90 days old, from any reputable electronics company.

It's not like you're gonna get to keep the defective one you know.

Apple really doesn't need pats on the back for doing the obvious.

There was no irony in my post, you just added a bunch of extra fluff that was unnecessary. There are anti-Apple people here along with competitors paying people to hate on Apple so you're not even close. :roll eyes:

But to add to your post. You do realize this is an Apple Enthusiast forum right? People here that piss on Apple's competitors are in more of a position to do so. Going to a Samsung Enthusiast site to piss on Samsung is a complete different story.

Whatever. "We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone."

I hope I am wrong, but I seriously doubt Apple is going to track down all the users of the affected iPhones and replace them. They are going to wait for all tech savvy readers of tech blogs to return their iPhones. The people who don't realize there is a problem I doubt are going to get new phones.

I have owned a lot of apple products. More than a few of them were affected by "known" problems. I never heard from Apple until I took them in to get replaced/fixed.

Prove me wrong Apple.

How do they know how to contact? Especially with the buying and selling of phones through third parties.

They know what apple id is associated which each phone. So if the phone is currently linked to an apple id they have contact details.

my battery life is horrendous.
especially when using my phone as a hotspot.
constantly charging in the car and at home.

IF Microsoft/Google makes the same mistake: "THIS is why Apple products cost more. Quality, you know? MS/GG only makes crappy products!"
Uh, translate this problem into software and you've described every single version of Windows ever. I've never seen a fix of any sort.

(no need to praise when someone does the thing it is supossed to do).
You don't have kids, do you?

Should be the former. That's how recalls work, if they can identify them.

Would have been nice to publish the serial number ranges....

It also would be nice if Apple would tell us right now what products they're planning on putting out, would cut prices on their current products by 50%, and would track down the kid who used to bully me in school and disconnect the brakes in his car. Doesn't mean we're entitled to it.

Iphone 5 Master Race

enjoy your battery 5s and 5c

Quite true. This is just one more reason I'm so happy I kept my iPhone 5, and didn't waste money on a marginal update.

iPhone 6 will present Apple with another crack at getting it right. If they do I may give it some consideration.

Oh, it's "only" a few thousand users...

...who will be getting free replacements. Sorry, I know some of you are poised, ready to leap all over Apple's latest screw-up, but this actually isn't a big deal. A few thousand (out of however many million) 5s's have this problem, and Apple is responding to it within a few weeks of the product's launch.

It's fine.
