Kind of odd. Maybe the Note 8 has a different kind of OLED screen? It has neither of these issues.
What difference? Apple uses a Samsung made display. Yeah technical differences but I doubt Samsung Display would be sabotaging Apple. It's a different entity then Samsung mobile and would look bad to do it.

Funny that they waited until after launch day sales were racked up before they tell us this
They love money. But many of their loyal customers never experienced OLED on a phone before. They only know iPhone and LCD. Why would they need to explain it beforehand?

Hmmm.... Wonder why they didn't mention this earlier?

It can't possibly be as bad as those old Galaxy phones that turn neon green when viewed slightly off angle. My Apple Watch screen doesn't exhibit extreme color shift.

I guess using maps for gps on a long trip will be bad for the display.
Maps wouldn't be an issue. You're moving along at 50+ mph in the United States so you'll have the maps moving. I've just driven from Florida to Virginia so far and no burn in on my Note 8.

You got this all wrong, Macrumors. It's actually a new feature from Apple just for iPhone users called iDejavu.

Supposedly, Samsung is the master of OLED. This shouldn't be a major issue. However, between the notch taken out of any widescreen viewing and potential burn-in issues, I'm starting to like the iPhone 8.

Side note: Brought my SE in to the Apple store. Launching apps was a split-second slower than the 8.

Not just for iPhone users, they trialled it on Mac users with LG screens with their wonderful ghosting.

Now you have iPhone X early adopters that are analyzing every angle of their display for burn-in all weekend long and they can longer enjoy their phone because of what Apple said.
Yep and the supply just got more available due to cancelled orders and returns! We will see refurbs listed in Apple store for only $995 now. :D

Reminds me of some of the folks discussing the Google Pixel 2 XL and it's screen issues. You have some folks with legitimate issues, then you have some other folks which, I'm afraid, can't appreciate their phone due to screen issues that they otherwise wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the internet. :p

Very true. I would say the majority don't frequent a tech forum. But those who do, tech hypochondria is very real for some who hear about minor issues with their phone, they start over analyzing everything on their device to make sure it doesn't have said issues. For some they just have to try to enjoy the device for what it is, unless it truly is a problem.

Plus you will keep going to the same place over and over :)
Apple maps isn't that bad. Would I prefer to use Google or waze I find it fine on Carplay. I actually like that Apple Carplay tells you the speed limit unlike Google maps on Android auto.

To be fair, it's standard with any OLED screen. The iPhone X is no different in that regard from a Samsung or Pixel device. (In fact the Pixel uses LG displays and is much worse from what I've heard.)
The XL uses LG POLED, the smaller Pixel (which I have) is a Samsung Panel.

For the record, it has minor color shift, but, so does every Samsung display I look at, some are more pronounced than others (OLED in general, not just Samsung).

well I know people who owned Samsung phones for years (with OLED display) and even if there was some burn in it wasn't noticeable / problematic at all.so I wouldn't worry.same goes for any slight shift in colour in angle.(if that's even noticeable)

all I can say is,I just got the iPhone X and immediately it's evident how much superior OLED screen is compared to even 7 Plus which had one of the best LCD displays.

I played a video on youtube simultaneously on both X and 7 Plus and 7 Plus was instantly and visibly defeated by much more rich and higher quality of the OLED on iPhone X.

The blacks on 7 Plus look like a joke compared to blacks on OLED of X.blacks look dark-grey-greeenish on 7 Plus whereas on X they are beautiful pitch black.
as it should be.

OLED is simply superior display tech.and everything looks noticeably better.no matter what.

All OLED screens have this problem, that's why the waited to switch to OLED, as this was much bigger problem in the first generations of OLED.
