Or maybe they waited until the first users have seen some of this to verify it and respond. Not everything has to be a conspiracy.
Maybe, but if it’s a “characteristic of OLED” there’s no reason to wait until these are in customers hands before educating them. Why not tell customers upfront so they can make an informed purchasing decision

Okay. I’m not in support of this. They are playing “burn-in is normal” card. They think people are stupid. I will see when mine arrives....they might charge people to replace the screen...and yes...oled tends to do that...nevertheless.

Realistically, only some of the "particular" folks here that see the 23 millisecond delays in iOS will probably even notice it. Most folks will have scratches and fingerprints and such whereby they wont even notice anything by the time it happens.

I thought that the icon of your vehicle stays on the same spot in the center of the screen the whole time plus the bar at the bottom of the screen.
Yeah but unless your traveling in a circle the surroundings will change. Like in this picture the streets will change.

OLED TV screens are known for their off-angle capabilities—are the mobile versions inferior by default?

And anyone who is surprised should only blame themselves. OLED's can burn in.. nothing new there, move along. Apple, I mean Samsung didn't develop a new OLED tech that doesn't burn in, its still OLED. That said, 99.9% of people won't have an issue I am sure. Just like I am sure 99.9% of people will a LCD don't have a problem, but I am sure .1% did. This is not new news. People were blaming the Pixel 2 XL for the same issues.. just stupid.

I like this. Just as with the JB iPhone 7, Apple is taking the right steps to deal with OCD freaks that invariably crawl out of the woodwork and just stuff it up for everybody with their incessant returns and service visits.

This way they will be elegantly shown the door after the 14 day exchange period is over.

What card? It's 100% the truth. Even with this truth if you use the phone normally it won't burn in... At least in a time frame it would matter since most users will probably upgrade way before it actually becomes a true issue.

I mentioned this previously, the majority of consumers who don't search a tech forum, won't even notice these minor OLED irregularities at all. It's just a lot don't have experience with OLED and what to expect overall.

Already with the excuses. Also, they neglect to mention this BEFORE offering it for sale. Wow. Like it says in my sig... "thou hast strayed far from the Path of the Avatar, Apple".

(EDIT: Oops, I just realized if I edit my sig in the future, it'll change and the end of the post will make no sense.)

There is no secret that AMOLED has this "issue". Its well known.

I've been following screen technologies since "burn in" was first discovered as an issue and "screen savers" invented as a solution. Admittedly I haven't been on top of everything deeply of late, but...my understanding has been that "burn in" was a non-issue for OLED precisely because, being a gazillion tiny LEDs, it just couldn't be an issue.
Hence my surprise that Apple's first foray into some variant of OLED display, presented as a "premium" product, would suffer from burn-in admitted to within hours of release. As a customer shelling out a 20% premium over the standard product - and being a customer/developer usually tuned into such things who hasn't heard the issue before - I shouldn't have to research "burn in" as a possible problem for this bleeding-edge product.

The irony is that the possibility of burn-in was rarely mentioned in the tech press as a drawback for most competitors that had OLED. People that posted on this forum touting the OLED screens for Android phones over the years certainly didn't seem to be too worried about it either.

Define normally.

The screen will outlast the useful life of the phone. Future iOS slowdowns and customer boredom with the device will ensure the planned obsolescence business model stays strong.
Man - these X phones are going to have crap resell value because of this.
But that fits in just fine with apple's business model as well.

I just got my iPhone X, and the blue shift is REALLY BAD. Like, it looks like one of those holographic cards, and feels blurry. I don't know if this is normal, and I'm going to give it some more time before I call it in, but my first impression is strongly making me reconsider this purchase.

It's OLED....I was waiting for Apple to say something. All and yes all OLED panels can get some slight burn in, but it's usually to the point you would never notice unless you download a grey screen and stare at your phone all day from different angles. The color shifting is no big deal don't buy into it! Samsung, LG, even the Pixel 2 xl are fine screens its the YouTube nerds who blow it all out of proportion! Just enjoy the phone!!

Kind of odd. Maybe the Note 8 has a different kind of OLED screen? It has neither of these issues.
Yes, the Note 8 has a different panel (and different supporting hardware and software) than the iPhone X, but the Note 8 does have off-axis tint and burn-in potential.

I've never had an Android phone so this is my first OLED phone. The ghosting on my iPhone X is TERRIBLE. Scrolling black-on-white text looks like we're back in the 90's with the first LCD monitors. My Oculus Rift has low-persistence OLED panels running at 90Hz with no ghosting whatsoever.
