What would have been alright for you? Would you want Craig Federighi to show up on camera lashing his own back, crying? Big apology? Pointless promise that this won't happen again?

No, that’s creation of your inflamed imagination, I never said anything to that extent. You should know better than to ask loaded questions like that. In fact, anyone above the age of 15 should.

What I want is full disclosure of what actually happened, how many people were affected and what will they do to prevent this in the future.

Well I updated with no problems. One iPhone 6s Plus, one SE, one work iPhone 6.
Loving the new Music app. Playing with messages. Sharing music. Playing with photos. All good.

Replace your laptop with an iPad Pro...

Plug into iTunes to update your iPhone though.

Brilliant.
iPhones dependence on iTunes is concerning. A relic that lives on.

You got to love the irony. Wires which Apple are so obsessed with getting rid of is the only way to fix Apple's screwup.
Apple is addicted to hard wired solutions.

My Ipad Pro 12.7 bricked during the install and I still have not been able to restore it. I have a Macbook 12" and used the usbc to lightning cable. I suspect the ipd draws too much power.

Restore/Upgrade and even downgrade ends in unknown error.

So much for the Pro can replace your computer

GEnius is set for monday they are obviously busy ...

Weird… I'm running Mountain Lion (10.8.5) and tried to update my iPad Air 2 and iPod Touch (latest version) through iTunes and it shows a newer iOS version (10.0.1) is available but everytime I hit update in iTunes I get "This version of iTunes (12.4.3) is the current version."
I don't get it! I always updated through iTunes and not through OTA… What gives and why is it doing that? It won't let me update to iOS 10.

You need to update iTunes to 12.5 in order to update your iOS devices to iOS 10.0.1.

My messages app is a white blank screen. anyone else? lol

I had the message app just not work properly. Not send texts, the white screen, laggy performance, and the the message settings within the settings app would freeze up the settings or made seriousl lag. After several restarts it has cleared up. So far iOS 10 is running 100% on my 6S so far.

[MOD NOTE]
A number of posts were removed due to the fact they were derailing the thread with arguing.

How insane can you be to let 100.000.000.000.000.000 users upgrade simultaneously, without a scheduled roll-out
(or a worst case, multi-ledgered lag time simulation for that part)

So much self entitlement in this thread.

You know the risks of updating as soon as it's released, it's not Apple'a fault.

It's not Apple's fault that the upgrade bricked eveyones phones? How do you work that one out?

I agree that people should wait a few days before upgrading. I always wait a few days until the little Number 1 appears on the Settings App, because I'm really not that excited about an OS upgrade.

However, it's unfair to blame iPhone users for Apple's screw up.

So much for Apple's moto - it just works. Clearly that's not the case anymore.

Apple's iPhone 7 is surely preparing us to boldly step into a wireless future.

Apart from the fact that I still have to plug my iPhone into the charger at least two or three times a day.

That isn't going to change with the iPhone 7 as it still doesn't have wireless charging.

I guess then I have a problem because it shows its the latest update for iTunes at 12.4.3 and im guessing it won't go higher with Mountain Lion 10.8.5

Full disclosure:

Somebody at a data center in China was texting and not watching where he was going. He tripped over a cable, which pulled out the plug of the OTA server for 18.36 seconds.

It effected 3,918 people at the time of the download.

It will not happen again, as the person was fired and all cables have been removed from the floor and put inside the walls.

There!

Let's just say you get all of that info, what are you going to do with that information?
Especially, when despite them saying it won't happen again, it will happen again?

If you do not want to understand that EVERY big OS upgrade initially has issues, you will remain frustrated.

There is no way to discover every possible wrinkle in beta testing, no matter how long it's tested.

You can set your frustmeter now for the Sierra issues on the first day that OS comes out.

The only good news is that Apple is pretty fast issuing fixes immediately after launching major upgrades.

You got timed out on operating software. There's always ways for Apple to impose obsolescence.

Yes it seems that way ☹️ :(

Is it wise and safe now to just upgrade from OTA or will I still need to connect with iTunes 12.5 at some point?

Now look what I have in my contacts!!!!
I have many with some symbols instead of letters!!

Mine was the same. I just walked in last night without an appointment. I wasn't about to wait. They squeezed me in and "fixed" my phone (I had to do a factory reset and lost info).

Anyone who updates their phone (apple or otherwise) over the air for a MAJOR release is just asking for trouble.

I have always upgraded over the air since it was available. I never had issues this time is the first.
They butchered the deployment, obviously software itself seems to be OK after that extensive beta testing

Tim Cook told us we no longer needed computers; iPads and iPhones are all we need THEN when the update cratered yesterday what was the Apple Support Twitter response "Do the update through iTunes". P!SS off Apple
