You really know you messed up when one of the greediest corporations calls you greedy

I should also clarify just because I’m calling Apple greedy doesn’t mean I hate them or anything - Scrooge McDuck is greedy and he’s one of my favorite Disney characters.
Facebook on the other hand can do the world a favore and dissolve tomorrow

Meta is upto something because they would have known they would be attacked in the media as soon as they released information about the 50% commission and yet they went ahead with it anyway.

Apple is right about Facebook, but I am not sure they are the ones to talk about hypocrisy since Apple appears to be much more hypocritical than other companies -- CSAM fiasco; secret deals with governments with human rights issues; handing over data to criminals pretending to be police, and not fully encrypting this data so it is possible to make such errors in the first place; recent allegations on how Apple exploited their own staff's privacy to gather data for FaceID, even though privacy is supposedly a basic human right; and many other violations over the recent years.
Not going to get into a big CSAM conversation here. But most people didn’t understand it.

It is a gamble, sure, but who is going to compete with them? They will buy up all the talent and eat up any startup that’s a threat before regulators can see it as anticompetitive. Apple and Google might have the resources to compete, but neither, for different reasons, have the capacity to build a metaverse.

And before you say apple wasn’t first to market with music players, phones, or watches…. Remember eWorld.

Maybe Musk will buy both Twitter and Facebook and shut them both down.

Do the world A favor.

He’s just a pawn a puppet put into place all of the real decisions come from the people we don’t on Tv. The higher ups run apple & Facebook etc they use puppets actors like Tim Cook & Marc to fool the public into thinking that these single men actually run these companies

Is that why everything went to hell after Jim Henson died?

“You’re too greedy!”
“No, you’re too greedy!”

Actually you’re both right.

I know what you are trying to say. But to dig into the weeds a little with the situation.... Apple takes either a 15% or 30% commission on all app store transactions. Meta takes 50% as we are being told by the stories.

Apple tests the app submissions, approves or rejects them for criteria, verifies security and compatability, host the apps, pays for the traffic for customers to download, etc. etc...... I am assuming Meta does part of those steps. I just dont know crap about what meta is or does or what they are selling.

But my point comes down to this. You are saying they are greedy for taking 15-30%. Dont know if you have ever worked in retail management or owned a store but did you know that the average markup on products in a retail setting is 30%?????? So when you go to best buy and buy something it is marked up AT LEAST 30%. Cables like hdmi, network, coax, usb, etc are marked up more than that along with a lot of other things. Some things are a little less. But average is around 30%.

Why should all those other retailers get a pass but you are singling out Apple (and meta I guess) for being greedy?????

It is perfectly okay to charge high commission for a new platform. Creating platforms requires high fixed costs and initially nobody knows if the platform is going to be successful.

What is absolutely not okay is to charge 30% after 15 years, when you are humungous platform

I don’t use Facebook, however I believe that in a free market they can come up with any random number and see how it goes. Developers can refuse to cooperate, while Facebook users can refuse to pay for anything they do not want/need, so no drama, IMHO. Pointing a finger at Facebook sounds quite petty on Apple’s part.

The 47.5% cut includes a 30% hardware fee on top of a 17.5% platform fee. Responding to the plan, Apple spokesperson Fred Sainz told MarketWatch that Facebook is simply being hypocritical and that while it complains about Apple's own platform fees, it wants to charge creators even more.
Only reinforces the perception that Meta aka Facebook is too greedy for its own good.

Free masons? Illuminati? The New World Order? La-Le-Li-Lo-Lu?

That is until Zuck sends his goon squad in to kidnap their daughters and force them to write software for Meta/Facebook. I used to work as non-descript minion #2501 for an evil organization in my youth. I know how they operate. Of course, back in the day, we only went after hot daughter of top tier, single father scientists. Hollywood even made it into a trope.

That's a high commission for software that nobody is gonna use. First you have to attract actual developers and I'm sure they'll get the usual garbage that is already developed for FaceBook.

50% seems really high. However, 30% for the app store also seems high to me. I understand that the Meta environment may be more labor intensive to build/maintain than the app store though and as such may require a higher commission. My vote (based on no data or facts): lower app store to 10%, and put meta at 20%.
