I use Facebook to ******** and relax. Anyways, I think this is a great opportunity for Apple to not be so aggressive when they roll out their AR glasses or VR whatever...

But my point comes down to this. You are saying they are greedy for taking 15-30%. Dont know if you have ever worked in retail management or owned a store but did you know that the average markup on products in a retail setting is 30%??????

Retail of physical goods commands relatively high markups because the logistic costs of managing an inventory of physical goods is actually quite high. Digital goods are very cheap to deal with in comparison, especially since Apple has to already manage an infrastructure able to distribute significantly larger amounts of data in the form of music and videos.

On top of that, IMHO the "greedy" argument is not the central one anyway. A company should be able to be as greedy as they want, as long as there is healthy competition to keep them in check through the laws of offer and demand.

Anyone else just wanna smack zuck. What a tool.
Hmmmm….. if only someone like “Angerdanger“ could use a video with Will Smith and Chris Rock, and replace Chris Rock with Mark Zuckerberg. ? Anyway, one can imagine!

I know what you are trying to say. But to dig into the weeds a little with the situation.... Apple takes either a 15% or 30% commission on all app store transactions. Meta takes 50% as we are being told by the stories.

Apple tests the app submissions, approves or rejects them for criteria, verifies security and compatability, host the apps, pays for the traffic for customers to download, etc. etc...... I am assuming Meta does part of those steps. I just dont know crap about what meta is or does or what they are selling.

But my point comes down to this. You are saying they are greedy for taking 15-30%. Dont know if you have ever worked in retail management or owned a store but did you know that the average markup on products in a retail setting is 30%?????? So when you go to best buy and buy something it is marked up AT LEAST 30%. Cables like hdmi, network, coax, usb, etc are marked up more than that along with a lot of other things. Some things are a little less. But average is around 30%.

Why should all those other retailers get a pass but you are singling out Apple (and meta I guess) for being greedy?????
Do you understand the overhead a retailer has versus Apple's overhead on selling digital goods.

To be honest none of these companies has a single shred of interest in anything except more power and money. In Jobs-era Apple I could almost have believed the products were paramount, but in 2022 we’re rapidly heading toward just deciding which dystopian megacorp is the least creepy.

I’m not sure on that. The M1 Macs are pretty damn amazing and they help people make a lot of money. ?

But FB is definitely beyond creepy. They could probably sell secretly recorded eye movement and pupil dilation data to psychologists.

In Stunning Admission, Apple Confesses That It and Facebook Are Greedy Bastards

Hey look,

I'm not a developer, or a programmer, or even someone who works in the tech field. I'm just a dopey end user.

But man, what I've seen of the meta verse so far looks like. BAD. Why? Why would I do this? It just looks. Pitiful. Like something I don't want to be associated with. It's really sucky.

Some people here have said Facebook is dead. I have to agree. I've been off FB for over a year now. One of the best things I ever did. Right up there with sobriety, and adopting two cats instead of one. I maintain an account so my wife can mark down she's married to someone, but I don't log on. My account has a photo other than myself on it. It's just a place holder.

Using Facebook only made me feel bad. Bad about society, politics, humanity. I saw all the fake "my life is grand" stuff from other people. Everyone seemed angry about something I didn't really care about, and were angry at ME for not caring about it! My wife is still on it. I don't think she enjoys using it. I think it's more inertia than anything, and I think FB is ripe to fall hard and quick.

I hear Meta/Facebook is going to hire Steve Balmer to make a guest appearance at their next conference: "Developers! Developers!"

DuckDuckGo search link that has Youtube videos of Steve's Developers! performance.
LOL!

You can't tell me this guy isn't doing booger sugar before this segment. No human being his age has that much energy and craziness without some sort of pharmaceutical influence.

Well, maybe meth? But I don't think meth was the thing back then....

Will this 50% commission finally allow people in the Metaverse to have the lower half of their body?

Top 5 social media sites.
1. Facebook - Meta
2. YouTube - Google
3. WhatsApp - Meta
4. Facebook Messenger - Meta
5. WeChat

Does anyone see a trend? I would not be so quick to dismiss Meta and anything Zuckerberg is doing.

“You’re too greedy!”
“No, you’re too greedy!”

Actually you’re both right.
To be fair, they never called them greedy. They said they were hypocritical, which is true. Apple is unapologetically greedy. Tim Cook's toilet has chamfered edges and a bead-blasted finish that can only be cleaned with a special cloth.

I don’t use Facebook, however I believe that in a free market they can come up with any random number and see how it goes. Developers can refuse to cooperate, while Facebook users can refuse to pay for anything they do not want/need, so no drama, IMHO. Pointing a finger at Facebook sounds quite petty on Apple’s part.
You realized that Facebook pointed the finger at Apple first right?

It’s not going to attract. His goal is to make money off developers and consumers.

Talk about hypocrisy ??‍♀️
I agree. However, the good news for Apple, Facebook, and other companies is that we live in a mostly free market society. We aren't forced to do business with people, we get to choose. I know some like to cry for mommy and daddy regulators, but we are adults. Let us act like it and let the poor business models fail. If isn't poor, it will succeed. (This will most likely fail at its current design).

Certainly there are situations where consumers and business are powerless to stop it, but app stores and digital market places isn't that type of situation no matter how hard people like Sweeney Tim @ EpicFail try to suggest.

I’m not sure on that. The M1 Macs are pretty damn amazing and they help people make a lot of money. ?

Yeah that's fair enough. I don't doubt they still make amazing products. I'm a big fan myself. The point I was badly trying to put across is that they're no one's friend. If they could charge 90% commission tomorrow and get away with it then they would. They all would. Apple calling out Meta is no better than Meta calling out Apple. All just grandstanding. In the end they're in the business of making money and will rip people off as much they can possibly get away with before it starts affecting their bottom lines.

TLDR; Apple good Meta bad is a short sighted viewpoint. They're all as bad as each other. In an upcoming zombie apocalypse Apple won't be handing out free baseball bats.

Metaverse, blockchain, NFTs and more. I’m sick of hearing about it non stop. Especially NFTs and video games.

Just like Microsoft, saying the iOS App Store is a monopoly - but the Xbox App Store is "different": so the 30% commission there is A-OK.

half-bad-santa-half.gif

It does. They're both guilty.

But we're kind of to blame, honestly. No matter what we say, there are always going to be hundreds of millions of mindless consumers who continue to use Facebook, Instagram, Meta World Peace, or whatever else Zuckerberg runs.
