Doctors aren't attending to the sick wearing ****ing hazmat suits because they're scared of the media.
Doctors wore the same protective garments during the H1N1 pandemic in the U.S. in 2009. When 13,000 Americans died and 60 million became infected.

We've learned our lessons from past pandemics and that's what we're trying to avoid this time. There's a lot of really smart people out there who have all the facts and information, and they're not making any of these decisions lightly. Do you really think they'd kick the economy firmly in the balls for no good reason? In 2009, 60 million Americans were infected with the H1N1 ("swine flu") virus. Almost 13,000 Americans died because of it and there were 1/4 million hospitalizations. I don't recall businesses shutting down or any of the present nonsense back then.
I've also ready that initially Italy tried to hide the number of infections and only reported the more serious cases to keep people calm. I wonder how that fatality rate got so high.. HMMMM.
The government is acting on real data here. You only need to look at what is happening in Italy to know this isn't just fear mongering. Yes the majority of people (i.e those who are young and healthy) will only develop minor cold like symptoms and will recover on their own. The measures being put in place aren't to protect them, it's to protect the people this virus will kill and preventing our health care systems from being completely overwhelmed.Lol! Darkest hour? Why because some stores are closed and some people have a cold? Darkest hour....tell that to a mother who lost her child to cancer...yes the millions who die from cancer not some minor flu virus. What media created complete and utter yes utter nonsense this all is.
If you know anything about Italy, you would know two things: 1. The population is aging. There are many, many elderly in Italy. The average age of the deceased in Italy, due to COVID-19, is 79 years old. 2. Many Italians smoke. Italy has the highest per capita smoking rate in ALL of Western Europe.

As an infectious disease specialist, I would like to say first that, for the most part, this is not a particularly useful exercise from a medical perspective. Influenza has treatment with anti-virals and a moderately effective vaccine. Plus, because it circulates every year in life-threatening form, much of the population walks around with some level of immunity.
In contrast, we have neither anti-virals nor a vaccine for COVID-19. Furthermore, though regular coronaviruses circulate every year (they are a leading cause of the common cold), the newer strains (SARS and COVID-19) are completely unfamiliar to our immune system. Right now, it appears that no one has a shred of preexisting protection (except those already infected and recovered).
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_obesity_rate, the US has an obesity rate nearly double that of Italy. Also, Italy has issues with obesity. Being in the Obese category is showing in the data as a risk factor.
A lot of people don't seem to be able to both stay calm and accept it's going to be a torrid year. Seems people need to reassure themselves by chattering about how it's all an overreaction/ conspiracy/ it'll be over by summer. It's not helpful to try and create/ spread this narrative. While not panicking is essential, underestimating this and failing to be responsibly prepared is also going to do no one any good. The post I replied to said:
No one is wearing a ****ing hazmat suit when the patient has a common cold.
But to dig a little deeper: comparing COVID-19 and H1N1 doesn't make much sense, as explained here (which talks more about the response of the respective presidents than the actual medical stuff but has some summary): https://slate.com/technology/2020/03/trump-coronavirus-obama-h1n1-swine-flu.html
But sure. It's all a ****ing conspiracy, perpetrated by every ****ing government on the planet, and all those ****ers who are dead, are paid actors who know how to lay real still for a long ****ing time.
Not gonna lie, I wouldn’t have believed it 2 weeks ago.
Also, Italy has issues with obesity. Being in the Obese category is showing in the data as a risk factor.
So a large portions Americans are at risk.
Wow, you are being ignorant of facts and not paying attention to what is happening in Italy. Doctors are having to choice which patients they save because they don't have enough resources to accommodate everyone. That is why business are closing, to slow the spread to not overburden the hospitals. Please wake up people! This is serious.Yes they are nervous because this media fear will not let spouses, relatives see them in hospitals, rehabs and nursing homes!! Many more Elderly will die from the isolation rather than this ridiculous virus fear garbage. Don’t u question anything? Stop blindly following those in charge who like everyone else have their own interests and agendas...

Why because the media told u this?? What about the other dozens of other viruses that we have dealt with in just the past decade alone? This fear is causing more damage than any virus could
I truly hope so before many die. If someone close to you dies of corona I’m sure your outlook would change. I hope it doesn’t take that for you to changeIt will be destroyed by humanity like every virus that came before!
That sounds great until you run out of hospital beds.In 2009, 60 million Americans were infected with the H1N1 ("swine flu") virus. Almost 13,000 Americans died because of it and there were 1/4 million hospitalizations. I don't recall businesses shutting down or any of the present nonsense back then.
In 2017, 80,000 Americans died because of the seasonal flu. 73 million were infected and there were 1.1 million hospitalizations. I don't recall businesses shutting down or any of the present nonsense back then either.
Believe the lying media hype all you want. We've been down this same road before.

See my statistics on past pandemics in the U.S., as well as the season flu below. You are absolutely correct.
Almost half yeah.So a large portions Americans are at risk.
Also keep in mind that severe cases will require use of a ventilator, which means use of an ICU bed. There are only ~45,000 ICU beds in the US, and keep in mind that all the hospital beds in America aren't empty at the moment waiting for this pandemic. All the usual stuff requiring a hospital bed isn't going to stop. That sounds great until you run out of hospital beds.
This country has roughly 925,000 hospital beds. If 1.5 million get very sick and require these beds? And the number will be higher. What happens? Lots of chaos and death. That’s the answer
Say that with confidence if one of your friends or family with a pre-existing condition dies from this virus.Out of 7,000,000,000+ people. A very, very small number.
If they get sick at the same time...which is why the goal is to flatten the curve. That sounds great until you run out of hospital beds.

EVERYONE PANIC! Lets overreact a little more!
Regular hospital beds are the easier part. ICU beds much harder to come by now. Let alone if there is a massive influx of critically ill patients. There are around 100000 ICU beds. Add in 200000 extremely ill patients that require several weeks of acute care. Chaos and death. If they get sick at the same time...which is why the goal is to flatten the curve.
13000 is a small number out of 60 million. Try 60 million sick and over a million dead. This is how serious Covid 19 is.Doctors wore the same protective garments during the H1N1 pandemic in the U.S. in 2009. When 13,000 Americans died and 60 million became infected.
