Um, common sense? Why make the same mistake twice?
A friend of mine got a hair cut once and the lady forgot to put the guard on the clippers and shaved right down the middle of his head thus making it so she had to shave the entire thing. She apologized and gave him a coupon for like 2-3 more free haircuts. He said “why would i come back to you?” Seems like a similar situation.

Coasting on "high" margins? That's funny. Apple's margins at 38% are reasonable. How would you characterize Microsoft's margins at 67%

Good question!

Apple spends about 5% of its sales revenue on R&D vs Microsoft's 13%, but we're not comparing like with like - who knows what $14Bn can get you vs almost $4Bn (for MS's R&D)...

Apple's gross at 38% (it's been steady at that for a while) more closely lines up with a manufacturing operation than a service operation... which is what MS's numbers better align with.

But there can be outliers. I work for a semiconductor manufacturer who has gross margins around 62% and net around 37%, but that's not normal.

I've never been a big believer in the so-called Apple tax for certain pieces of hardware. My last 2 Apple purchases were high end MBPrs, in part justified to my masters because a like-for-like Windows laptop from our prefered and top 3 windows computers suppliers was almost $600 more, in both cases, 3 years apart.

We have reached the point at which "thin" equals "fragile." I went to an apple store and examined these in person. Without a doubt they flex when applying pressure from opposite corners. With all things considered I decided to buy the 2nd generation ipad instead of this... I'm very happy with my decision. Are we buying pieces of fine jewelry to be admired or are we buying consumer electronic devices that enable us to be productive and get things done?

The crazy part is I never once heard the previous gen Pros were too thick. No one asked for razor thinness. That is just Apple's obsession for some reason.

It's the same thing with the phones, just minimally increasing the battery enough to counter the new internals and keep the battery life the same. But just staying that 1-2mm thicker would have SUBSTANTIALLY more battery life.

The could have increased the ipad battery life by how many hours keeping it at the old 6.9mm or even going up a hair

Classic Apple game, it was before “you hold it wrong”. Apple engineers got time for design and test before going on on market. Then Apple ask the premium price for premium products and then we got easy to bend tablets including the cheap excuses.

Em excuse me Apple. If I fork out $2k AUD for a product I expect it to be perfect. That includes the item coming out of the box bent. I would kick up a stink if they refused to replace it.

I have been an Apple fanboy for more than two decades, but I have to say these last years have been tough. Apple quality control has fallen, and excuses like this bring a very sour taste to anyone's mouths.
The list of complaints about the way Apple has been handling their business is getting larger and larger. Apple got to get their act together, or they will be destiny to fail. It won't happen anytime soon but little by little they will get there if they keep acting the way they are.

Apple has refused to fix my ipad pro with touch issues. Apple are c**** when it comes to warranty.

Outside of Apple Care and the 1 year warranty you are properly screwed, especially if you don't live near an Apple store. I had to get a replacement iPad as I don't think they even repair them nowadays?

So they WON'T replace a bent iPad? Are they for real?

If out of the box, no problem. Just return in the 14 day or the extended holiday return period. Then go buy another one. Suggest everyone get out Dad’s square and check level and square.;)

This is really a disaster. It was one thing when people had the genius idea of sticking their 6 Pluses in their back pocket and sitting on them all the time. Bent iPad Pros at almost a grand a pop is just unacceptable. Unacceptable!

I must say I think the design is beautiful. It truly is a gorgeous device but it is flimsy which is a big disappointment. Apple should correct this immediately and not wait until next year to fix this problem.

You would think after the backlash over 6 Plus that they would’ve made sure this bend gate would never happen again. Does anyone test these things? Do Tim, Craig, Phil & co. actually even use their own products or do they get custom made titanium ones?

Another story about nothing. If you buy an iPad and it's bent, Apple will take it back or exchange it. Simple as that.

Except that you're ignoring the part where Apple wants people to believe it's normal for the iPad to be bent.

And they won't take it back on day 15, so if you bought a bent one 14+ days before Christmas as a gift....you're not going to be returning it.

But you're interpreting criticism as raw, channeled anger. You're including emotions where sure, some people will be emotional, always, independent of situation Apple related or not-- be it positively or negatively. Humans are emotional beings by their nature too.

If I was turned down a HEFTY refund for being transparent about distaste for the bend, and stuck with a lemon, being told I'm looking at it wrong, I'll be honest I'd be mad as hell too!

Most people from skimming this thread and reading the bulk of it, are rationally arguing this is not cool. WiThOuT aLl oF tHiS dUrRhUrR

Someone being upset that people are getting shafted doesn't diminish that people are getting shafted. And we should expect and demand more for the pricing

I have no problem with criticism. I just think it’s overblown and it’s likely the loudest people on this site don’t even own the device. For those that have bent iPad’s, I’ve said I hope they return them and get a good one. It’s a bummer that this small manufacturing defect happened, but it happens in Apple products and it happens in other electronic devices from time to time.

Yeah. Don’t even bother telling them it’s bent. Just say someone already bought you one or you just didn’t like it. Better yet just return it and say nothing. At least Apple is probably the easiest store to return stuff to.

I had a similar issue when I bought my 2016 MBP a couple of years ago. The first had scratches on the chassis. This was just unacceptable for a $3000 machine.

Apple is clearly in Tim Cook's era. Tim Cook has served his customers, the investors well, but he has forgotten who are the real customers that is funding all this. Tim needs to go.

Tim Cook is a numbers guy. He is NOT a product guy.
You can see that in ALL THE LATEST apple product design.

INNOVATION HAS BEEN DEAD for quite a long time.
and COOK the only thing he has done is Raise prices and lower quality.
IN addition he created a whole new generation of disposable NON-upgradable computers.
So much for environmentably friendly (recycable) products.
