I've read this entire thread. I bought a 12.9 iPad Pro in Nov. on release day. I bought it for my son as a Christmas gift. It's been sitting the closet since I purchased it, I'll give it to him on Christmas. After reading about some of them being bent. I just had to open the box to check. Whew! It's not bent. I didn't want him to open a bent brand new iPad for Christmas. I'll explain to him later why I opened It.

Right. To you. But can’t it be understandable if it happens to others? Why cover for it?

If it were any other company it’d be unanimously unacceptable

Yea I’ve said that over and over. If I received a bent iPad, I’d be bummed and go get a new one. After all that hardship and struggle, I’d move on with my life. I’m not denying the issue, I just try not to worry about things I can’t control. People are going to start demanding a handwritten apology letter from Apple next.

This is B.S.

Apple knows better. If it was normal they'd feature a bent iPad in video with an Ives voiceover talking about how the "beee-uuutiful curvature of the "chassis" is evidence of our attention to minute detail".

Not a handwritten apology. Just not insulting the intelligence of their customers. They’d have been better off saying nothing

I agree move on with your life, but if youre

What trillion-dollar valuation? Apple closed today at $763 billion, $32 billion behind microsoft. It's stuff like this article that is really turning people off Apple. They're coasting on high margins based on the brand value and it's like they're trying to go out their way to destroy people's opinions of the brand.

Coasting on "high" margins? That's funny. Apple's margins at 38% are reasonable. How would you characterize Microsoft's margins at 67%

Expecting a brand new iPad (and the most expensive iPad at that) to not be bent out of the box, or in a week, and expecting that Apple won’t make excuses for an inexcusable defect, is expecting the basics, not perfection.

Yea it sucks that some are bent. These things will happen though and you deal with it and move on. For those that received a bad product, I hope they returned it and got a new on. Does that make everyone feel better? I guess I’m lost on what some are expecting to come from this. What Apple says or does has no affect on me.

That is why many on this thread are going to 'leave it'. This is exactly what the consumer should do if they are not satisfied with the products they purchase from not just Apple, but from any company. If the bend bothers anyone who has bought the new iPad Pros, then they should just return it. And if anyone is ok with the bend and they want to keep it, then great. Just know that the bend will then be within the tolerance of what would be considered a brand new iPad.

Okey doke. That’s for them to decide.

The comments on this thread prove all Macrumors members are not Apple sheep.

90% of the comments are *rightly so* talking Apple down.

Good to see everyone is still curious and open minded.

This reaction by Apple in particular though, wow

Not going to read through hundreds of comments but I would keep returning until either A. I received one that wasn’t bent or 2. They stopped sending me replacements. If you bought one not perfectly straight/aligned , return it. Don’t settle because the company is trying to save face.

Totally agree. Probably the first thing I said is that they shouldn’t have said anything. I made my initial points, but other than that I’ve just responded to those who have quoted me. I’m a giver, I want to talk people off the ledge. It will all be okay everyone. You’re really gonna stick it to Apple this time. The company that doesn’t give a crap about you.

Apple is pumping out **** and telling everyone they are producing exquisitely crafted chocolate covered donuts from the world's most heralded bakery. BS on all their lies - where do they learn this stuff? Make the products right or take them back and fix them if they are fouled-up. Greedy greedy greedy.

this is where ya lose me though... You aren't talking anyone off any sort of ledge. They can be critical or not critical as they want and still lead a perfectly normal and happy life. Their money their voice their minds. And others' opinion of a product you're stoked about, should not affect yours, whatsoever. Most people think jailbreak is illegal and trash. It is not illegal, objectively, and subjectively, I strongly find it to be not trash. But people can talk it down as much as they want, I do what works for me and I understand arguments for the alternative.

The company might not give a crap even saying something, true, but surely not saying anything they DEFINITELY won't give a crap about you if you normalize their unacceptable behavior.

The Verge hawk eyes this forum (more evidence of that: https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/16/...-iphone-x-leather-case-saddle-brown-processor -- they link to the 'love for patina' thread), as I've mentioned. Guarantee you someone at Cupertino does too. If they're turning off 'Apple aficionados', how do you think average Joe on the street feels about a $1000 iPad bent out of the box, a luxury secondary device? I don't know, but I'd be inclined to think they don't take too kindly to it at all. Supposed slow iPhone sales too, you can point it at a saturated smartphone market but frankly its been saturated for some time. This should be a crossroads for them.. whether it will be or not, who knows? we'll have to see.

Some of you guys take brands and buying products a little too seriously. I like Apple products and they have always served me well, but to take such an outraged stance on the subject is a little creepy to me. A little funny too. It’s a problem for the product and Apple for sure, but it’s not the end of the world. Buy the product, or don’t. You’ll be alright, deep breaths.

It is more like: People who spend a lot of money on new products value their purchase.

It’s only laughable when ignorant people and Apple Apologists think that bent iPad Pros are not defective. No one needs to excuse Apple or give them a pass on this, it is quite obviously a defect and this matter should be taken seriously.

And it’s absurd how your solution for people’s problems is to just not buy the product. I’m pretty sure if people, like myself, want the new iPad Pro, then we want it for what it can do and the new features, obviously we want a unit without any defects though. And there are units out there that are perfect. We shouldn’t have to accept defective units like blind bats, and the solution shouldn’t be ‘don’t buy it’, when we want the new iPad Pro, Apple shouldn’t be producing defective products in the first place. And we also don’t want to switch to a whole other platform or buy a less superior version of the iPad Pro. You make it sound so simple with this solution, it’s not all black and white. Defects shouldn’t be acceptable. This bending is not okay.

Not sure why you’re being condescending with this guy, Apple is the one saying bending is normal. This is an expensive product, we deserve non-defective models for the price we pay.

No I misread the article at first. I actually have the new iPad Pro 11 and it is fragile without a case.

It’s thin, but I haven’t had any issues personally. I generally keep it in the smart folio though.

I was only talking about those getting so angry about a manufacturing defect. I guess if I worked for Apple or owned stock, I’d be upset, but I dont. I can only go by my own experiences. If people want to complain on the internet, so bet it.

The 10.5 iPad Pro is the 2015 MacBook quality equalivalent. Ive tried the newer pros (both MacBook and iPad) and their crazy price didn’t justify the upgrade. Now I’m not making money on my devices so i may be wrong as far as that goes. But the greed that is going on at apple is astounding people who are not as fortunate as some of us save for a long time to get one of these devices and expect perfection. Keyboard issues, battery issues, warping. And those are the THREE BIGH MONEY makers for apple (iphone, MacBook, iPad) like i said 2015 was the last great MacBook and the 10.5 iPad Pro is great as well.

I never said it’s not defective and I’ve said that Apple is wrong for saying it’s normal. I just personally don’t feel like Apple owes me anything and don’t see a reason to be so upset. My iPad Pro wasn’t bent, but if it was, I’d return it for a new one. The rest of it is just noise.

But you're interpreting criticism as raw, channeled anger. You're including emotions where sure, some people will be emotional, always, independent of situation Apple related or not-- be it positively or negatively. Humans are emotional beings by their nature too.

If I was turned down a HEFTY refund for being transparent about distaste for the bend, and stuck with a lemon, being told I'm looking at it wrong, I'll be honest I'd be mad as hell too!

Most people from skimming this thread and reading the bulk of it, are rationally arguing this is not cool. WiThOuT aLl oF tHiS dUrRhUrR

Someone being upset that people are getting shafted doesn't diminish that people are getting shafted. And we should expect and demand more for the pricing

Sure they can, get rid of Ive and this minimalist design philosophy.
Ive has done some very iconic designs. It's just that, IMHO, Jobs was there to rein him in. I think Cook has put profit over function. I know some people will disagree, but I like ports instead of extra cost dongles. To me, it takes away from the portability of laptops.
