Because nobody cares enoughWhy doesn't the EU go after Amazon and force them to allow Borders, Dillons, Barnes & Noble, et al to have stores on the Kindle? They should also have their own payment processor without having to give anything to Amazon.

Yes, but if we accept Apple's arguments about the iPhone, the Mac really should be like that also.Apple havent closed the Mac App Store and enforced their way because Mac have allowed software to be installed. Always.
Look at Microsoft and their failed Win 10S mode that only allowed apps from the store.
Well certainly we devs would love to “tolerate” zero fees, but we’re also realistic and understand TANSTAFL.
There’s another group, largely living in the EU, that appear to have an inferiority complex and want free stuff 🤷🏻♂️
Or it’s because they are not big enough to challenge Apple App Store rulesApp developers could be "happy" with zero fees but they "tolerate" the App Store fees and put up with them because iOS is too big of a market to walk away from and there's no alternative ways (except maybe in the EU) to access that major segment of the market.
Apple is a drop in the bucket compared to other smartphone manufacturers. App developers knew what they signed up for. There was absolutely no ambiguity. And yes, there are other ways to get into the market…it’s called the internet. If you’re speaking of gaming there are numerous consoles.
Except that’s exactly what it is. Apple is a drop in the bucket compared to all that’s out there even though in an individual model basis it sells well. One again, it’s not about smartphone manufacturers it’s about mobile operating systems and there only two major players (Android and iOS) in that market.
There should be a survey to see how many iOS users really value the walled garden model as opposed to not caring or outright disliking it.To me, this just shows how the majority of people in the EU preferred iOS as it is over the Android alternative. But the EU is forcing Apple to make iOS more Android-like.
I literally posted a link? And I specifically said "phone vendor". Nice try twisting my words thoughWhere did you get the info that iOS is dominant?

Same responseApple has a 30’ish% market share while Google has a 70’ish% market share in the EU. Sorry, no. They are the little guy. When Google has a 3:1 market share over Apple, Google is the biggest. If you want to argue about fragmentation of Android phones, you can’t quite do that since that’s like saying Microsoft doesn’t have the largest PC market share. Apple often goes between #1 or #2 PC vendor, but overall, they have somewhere around 10%. Nobody claims Apple is the big dog in the PC market, so that’s why Apple isn’t in the phone market either.
I did not say nor imply that you can only run games on consoles. But they are primarily gaming consoles.Really? Is that why I can download Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, and so on on both my Xbox Series X and my PlayStation 5? I didn’t know those were games?
That's why we say "duopoly"Too many people misuse or plain don't understand the word "monopoly".
The fact that Android exists means iOS is not a monopoly. Period.
There should be a survey to see how many iOS users really value the walled garden model as opposed to not caring or outright disliking it.

So if you buy something that automatically means you like every part of it? it is not possible to buy something while thinking there are bad parts in it? That's interesting takeI think users have already voted with their wallets. I don't know anyone who would spend $1000+ on products they outright dislike.
Move out of EUWhat choice remains for those who want a walled garden after the EU changes?

Personally i bought a designer lamp sometime ago but i thought i disliked how the bulbs show instead of the light being evenly spread, but i guess i actually don't dislike that because i did buy the lamp so that means i like every part of it.
Move out of EU
Where did i say walled garden was a huge deterrent? If having a walled garden were such a huge deterrent for them, why would they buy it?
And you replied with:There should be a survey to see how many iOS users really value the walled garden model as opposed to not caring or outright disliking it.
This only makes sense if:I think users have already voted with their wallets. I don't know anyone who would spend $1000+ on products they outright dislike.
That reply works to the people saying "if you dont like walled garden then dont buy an iphone" just as well. That doesn't bring back choice. That's running from/avoiding the problem.

So you agree that the "if you dislike walled garden then dont buy iphones" argument is bad, that's nice to hearWow! You finally get it!

If you read his message slowly and with thought you might notice he wants to know how many people VALUE the walled garden instead of NOT CARING or DISLIKING it.There should be a survey to see how many iOS users really value the walled garden model as opposed to not caring or outright disliking it.
This implies that no people who dislike or simply don't care about the walled garden buy iphones, every iphone purchase is a vote for the walled garden.I think users have already voted with their wallets. I don't know anyone who would spend $1000+ on products they outright dislike.
Many don’t also understand “duopoly”.That's why we say "duopoly"![]()
i'm gonna try to explain my point once more and if you still dont get it it's best to to stop.

My point is people who dislike or dont care about the walled garden still buy iphones, because the walled garden is simply one part of the product.
I never said people who dislike the walled garden enough to not buy iPhones still buy iPhones, that would be silly.
Don't use the things the DMA offers you, don't use a different browser, don't use a third party app store, don't sideload any app. All issues for you are the results of Apple's inability for create a secure device. And since Apple is your Lord you have to live with Apple's decision. What choice remains for those who want a walled garden after the EU changes?
