Nope. Apple’s displays lack high refresh rates and 60Hz strains my eyes. I went with $1,000 LG monitors.
Curious what type of work you are doing on those LGs that you have eye strain at 60Hz?

I am only using this Dell monitor for data entry, static image processing, and very lightweight video editing (and I mean very light weight) but it is only 60Hz refresh. I'm wondering if I would notice less fatigue from a higher refresh?

LMAO typical Apple. 27" is the perfect size for a workstation.... Apple will do anything it can to get you to overspend on other stuff; Want a bigger screen with horsepower? Get the Mac Pro for the price of a car!

Is Apple telling us to spend much, much more money on their non-integrated options a surprise? 😅 Mac Mini plus non-Apple monitor makes sense for a lot of people, but you lack the show off factor... You can't underestimate how many sales Apple got because their customers want to show off. Offices, schools, studios etc all bought Apple for the prestige. The new iMac isn't as cool as it was, and the smaller screen is also less impressive. But will they pay that much extra for a Studio plus Mini?

Either they're actually developing a pro-level iMac with a 30" or greater display, or they still want to reserve the iMac for the consumer and education markets. It's too bad, because the 27" Retina iMac has proven popular with professional users. The Fine Arts building at my college campus has a bunch of them. Though our TV studio director is looking to upgrade one of the building's Mac labs by going with either Mac Studios or M2 Pro Mac Minis, but rather than the pricey Apple Studio Displays, they'll go with a decent third-party UHD display that works with those Macs. (One lab used to have 2012 quad-core i7 Mac Minis using such third-party monitors, before they replaced them a few years back with 27" Retina iMacs.)
The 27" iMac was popular with professionals because it was the only option for Intel Macs that had K-series desktop chips and discrete graphics. The Intel Mac Mini with it's niche clock-limited B series chips and anemic UHD integrated graphics (not even the Iris/Xe graphics on the 13" MBP) was not suitable for professional level work, and the Mac Pro was priced well outside of most prosumer and professional users' budgets (and Xeon chips actually perform worse in many video and photography based workflows than their i9 counterparts).

The move to Apple Silicon really juiced the low end, making the Air and Mini far more competent machines than they were in their Intel incarnations. The M2 Pro Mini in particular is clearly intended to be the 27" iMac successor, and users who need even more oomph can pick up a base model Studio and pair it with whatever display makes sense for them.

I thought that might be the case as they removed the 24" that was in front of the iMac name in the apple store. I think when 24" was part of the iMac name on the store they might have been thinking about doing one? But it seems that they'd rather sell a studio / pro and monitor now. A shame as i really enjoy my 5K iMac and have found it to be the perfect size and convenient to have free desk space around it for peripherals to sit where a studio base would have to sit with a monitor.

Or....Just buy a Mac Mini or Mac Studio, and whatever monitor you want, from any manufacturer you want.

I kinda think this is a good idea, It's a waste having an all in one like that, better to get a studio or mac min less waste not having to get a new screen every time you upgrade. The 24 inch makes sense since this will be for low tech customers, anyone who needs more performance will be able to spec the proper mac and display

I guess a studio display and mini pro will have to do then…for peeps who need more power and screen.
No way am I buying a studio display, it's WAY to expensive for what you get. And I already have a M2 Mini Pro and a 24" Samsung monitor, and I still use my 27" iMac the most by far.

Apple has confirmed to The Verge and some other publications that it has no plans to release a new 27-inch iMac with Apple silicon.

iMac-Pro-2022-27-and-24-iMac.jpg

Apple discontinued both the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro over the past two years, and it has yet to launch a larger-screen iMac with an Apple silicon chip as a replacement, leaving the recently-updated 24-inch iMac with the M3 chip as its only all-in-one desktop computer. For customers who want a larger or higher-end desktop, Apple recommends pairing the 27-inch Studio Display with a Mac Studio or Mac mini.

From the report:Apple has only ruled out a new 27-inch iMac, so a larger-screened iMac is still possible. Last month, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple was still developing an iMac Pro with a 32-inch display for release in late 2024 or in 2025. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also expects a 32-inch iMac with mini-LED display backlighting to launch in 2025.

Oh well.

Not that I had many doubts.. If they didn't announce one on Oct 30th, it wasn't going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

Shrug.

Well, I'm sure more people would consider the a Mac Mini or Mac Studio with a 27" Apple display / Studio Display if they at least added a basic feature or two that's missing?

A freakin power button for example?

A stand that was decent w/o being charged extra...

Or even an affordable 27" monitor that wasn't as expensive because they decided to stuff an iPhone inside it for... reasons?

If this is the long-term sales strategy, they need at least one high quality monitor that's just a high quality 27" display that has the basic features the Studio Display is missing, and isn't overpriced due to being stuffed with crap no one wants.

That would move more Minis/Studios paired with Apple displays PDQ.

Apple needs to pay attention to their customers! I came to and have remained with Apple because of their excellent all in one designs. Apple can try to force the issue, but I am not buying what they are selling. I have rejected the Mac Studio twice. It simply is not as convenient as a good all in one design. Then to add insult to injury Apple offers a $1,500 monitor with a poor quality camera. I tried out a new one two weeks ago. The cameras in Dell’s newest precision laptops put the camera in the Studio display to shame!

So we are left with an overpriced, less elegant design, with a poor quality camera for a much higher price. No Thanks!

You are not really forced into buying exactly Studio Display... There's a free market for displays, with some being similar.

Or....Just buy a Mac Mini or Mac Studio, and whatever monitor you want.
I agree, just get a nice display and call it a day, that why I got the M1 Mac Mini. I use 2 34" 1440 monitors, it would drive me crazy have a 27" iMac and a 34" display side by side. My only wish from apple would be a MBA that is capable of driving both my 34" displays.

I don't know how much more proof you need?

Apple have, on numerous occasions, claimed that the 24" models is the perfect size to effectively replace both the 21.5" and 27" model.

They have now confirmed that they are not developing a 27" iMac. Backtracking a year down the line is something Apple would never do.

The only slight, slight whim of hope would be a much different 32" iMac Pro or similar, but that remains strongly unlikely and would probably be crazy expensive.

At this stage I would just get a nice display and your computer of choice.

The iMac is a niche product at this point so having 2 display sizes doesn't make much sense.

The Mac Mini + Display combo is a much better option anyway.
I’m probably an outlier but I prefer the look of the iMac over the studio display. I like the white bezels and the slimness of the display. I’ve always enjoyed working on Macs cos they are so beautiful to look at but I’m just not feeling the studio display. And third party monitors look even worse in my regard :(

I think Apple's so focused on the upcoming Vision Pro that they don't spare as many resources on the Macs. Really, the entire Mac strategy for the coming year is probably just "stick an M3 chip inside an existing product and call it a day." :p

(in any case, the iMac has been afterthought for a long time now)

In 2020 I bought an iMac with 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 5700XT and 10 core i9. It costed me ~€4.000

Adjusted with inflation, that would cost around ~€5.000 today.

To get today's equivalent of that iMac, I would need a GPU at least as powerful as a 7700XT. Only the M2 Ultra comes close to that performance. I'll settle with the 60-core instead of the 76-core GPU. That alone is € 4.849.

Then I need at least a 5K 27" monitor. Studio Display to the rescue. € 1.779.

Keyboard and mouse. I guess I'll skip the Touch ID. € 218.

That's € 6.846. So almost 40% more expensive. And I'm losing the super nice all-in-one form factor.

I'm not buying that. They better make an iMac Pro before the end of 2025, or I'll just build a PC.

To me it seemed obvious it was not coming when they released the Studio. A Studio + Display is a 27" iMac alternative. Having both would make one superfluous. I suppose the Studio could've been a "stop gap" until they came out with a larger iMac, but that would imply they didn't prefer Studio + Display and it seems clear they do given it is a more expensive option and given that it is "modular" (in the weakest sense of the word). It also makes sense given the amount of cooling required for the Ultra. You simply can't replicate that in a thin iMac.

What is the issue here? I honestly don't understand. It is not as if the Mac mini or Mac Studio has an enormous footprint. If the Mac Pro were the only option, I get it. That thing is huge. But I'm trying to think of anyone who:
1. Needs more power than M3...AND...
2. Needs more screen real estate than the 24 inch...BUT...
3. Doesn't have the room for the Mac Studio...AND
4. Won't need to upgrade the processor/RAM/SSD before the monitor...AND...
4. Won't have the desire for the versatility and mobility of a MacBook Pro (even as a second screen).

It seems like a really small segment.
1. is definitely true for me.
2. I don't need more screen real estate than a 24" iMac, but see #1, I need more than an M3.
3. I have the room, but maybe not for a 32" iMac.
4. I sometimes update monitors when I update machines, but not always.
second 4. I have no desire for the mobility of a macbook pro until they get lighter and lose the notch. I use a Windows laptop for mobile instead.

As for smaller or bigger market, I wouldn't presume to make that statement, I don't know, but I do know I don't fit what Apple wants me to buy now. (even though I've bought multiple Macs and even AS Macs)

It seems that Apple doesn't understand the population, and its eyesight, is ageing overall. I have an Intel 27" iMac. I need the screen size so I can magnify documents so I can see them, and I like the form factor. I have always preferred all-in-one machine format since the MacPlus. I don't want to faff about with cables when most of what I need to do can be accommodated in one chassis.

Nice of them to confirm, but if they think folks "waiting" are now going to suddenly buy a much smaller 24" ... or a 2x the price Mac Studio + Studio Display..

...they are mistaken

You can't just lower the value prop and raise the prices in perpetuity and expect customers to stick around.

Apple is losing their minds with pricing.
