Jeez.....These rumors are getting out of hand. It used to be I could come here and get CREDIBLE rumors. Now it seems like every 10 year old that says something is reported here. Get it together guys.

Exactly. Assuming - and, again, I hope I'm wrong - that they are to announce his retirement, it makes sense that they would want to instill goodwill with the employees by giving them an initial heads up before it hits the world media. As I mentioned above, I do think such a meeting would occur on a Friday, because that is when "bad news" is announced by smart corporations.

Would retirement warrant such a large coordiated meeting? Worse than retirement might.

Hunch

My guess is that they will announce Steve's retirement to all Apple employees.

Folks, the first rule of retailing is that you don't talk about products that are not yet available.

Salespeople need to sell what they have, not what they may have. So the meeting is likely about helping employees with fielding questions about the company, including Jobs' health, responding to published rumors about product, etc.

It is possible that new tech would be presented, but in no case would information about something like Light Peak be disseminated more than 10-12 hours before the appearance of such a feature in the store.

I would agree - at times, our Board is sounding like it is overpopulated by hyperactive 15 year olds with little business / corporate / life experience.

When I used to work there I don't ever remember signing an NDA. Apple doesn't even tell it's retail store employees any news... You really think an NDA would keep things a secret?

Those meetings like people have updated are standard meetings Apple has a couple times a year.

I'm not sure I follow, but I am interested since you worked there. Assuming that it is true that the upcoming meeting - whatever it is - is going to require an NDA, why would they require such if it is simply a standard semiannual meeting? However, I'll point out, the update to the initial post in this thread is ambiguous on whether the NDA is still relevant, so I don't know if my question is relevant or not.

Having the thousands of retail employees sign NDA's and thinking for SECOND that the secret wouldn't get out...

Of course it would get leaked out. Of course iPad case manufacturers get leaked information and leak information. Of course invited media tweet the goings-ons of Apple media events when they are asked not to. Of course macrumors.com has posted things that Apple has then asked them to retract. Of course all these things happen.

But it doesn't mean Apple is going to throw its hands in the air and stop trying. An NDA may not stop it from leaking, but it could help Apple control the outgoing message.

Would retirement warrant such a large coordiated meeting? Worse than retirement might.

I think his mere retirement would indeed warrant such a meeting. True or false, right or wrong, Steve Jobs is hailed by many as the best corporate leader ever. Apple wants to be in front of any succession gossip, and they also want their employees to maintain their top-rated service. By having such a meeting, they can accomplish both.

Maybe a mass funeral. "Live streaming FUNERAL straight from Apple.com" :p

Not funny in the slightest.

Starting to wonder if owning the bloody thing will be half as exciting as the wait and the incessant macrumours-checking!

(Hell, yea, is the answer I'm hoping for!!!:D)

Interesting series of events... They are releasing the MacBook Pro's on his birthday, so maybe it is a retirement thing.

They don't usually tell employees about product releases in advance of their public launches so, if true, I suspect this is something else. When I was reading the article I started wondering if it was regarding Jobs' health.

Naa... a meeting for retirement? I don't see this happening anytime in the near future.

how about refreshing your macrumors page and see this ?

Update: We've received word from several sources that the meeting is simply a standard quarterly meeting for retail employees and should not entail any specific disclosures related to new products.

I'm a hyperactive 29 year old with too much of the last one and not enough of the first two...

This reminds me of Christmas aged about 9. The difference being, I knew when Christmas day was...

Everyone!
The article said this...

Let me add, retirements, death, health issues, or anything related.
The meeting has absolutely NO significance.
