Question to people who discovered macrumours before I did (last Tuesday...). Has this frenzy occured with every anticipated product refresh of late, or is this exceptional, and, if the latter, why?

My best guess is that he will be wheelchair bound within a week and we will be saying goodbye to the world's most important and endearing visionary on the 21st century with the next four to five weeks.

What a load of tosh. How some people get off on predicting the death of someone else, I'll never know

RTP.

To all those who think Steve is in serious peril of health, injury, or death...

Steve met with the president last week and looked fine!!!
I must congratulate you though on your great imaginations.

At Macrumors.....

And so to prove my point in another news thread, that the Editorial of MacRumors is slack these days and printing any rumor without any due consideration or even a pause to check facts we get

Update: We've received word from several sources that the meeting is simply a standard quarterly meeting for retail employees and should not entail any specific disclosures related to new products.

so nothing to see here.. move on folks....

WHY print the article until you had investigated for more that 5 minutes. Too many rumors are making page 1 and your grasping at too many tidbits MACRUMORS team.

Please just because any donkey of a rumor site prints an article, does not mean that you have to. Please start flexing some Editorial muscle and make sure we get the most accurate rumors and information, rather than any old ***** that can be found any other site...

Seriously your becoming the National Enquirer of rumor sites lately.

Apple does releases very well. They hype, hype, hype and hype without every saying a thing.

I think Apple will make a huge mistake if they release products that start back down the path of being proprietary (ie.. soldering memory/ssds, etc). Many people are extremely turned off by the nature of that type of business. It has hindered the company from bring in a new customer base. They started making headway in the past 5-7 years with intel products but it seems that has been changing more recently. There has to be a balance and Apple is heading in the direction of controlling everything within their products.

FINALLY... Somebody who gets it. The drudgereport has a video of steve leaving breakfast with his wife....

Drudge Report? Seriously?? About as credible as the Weekly World News. I'm sure Jobs has come to grips with his illness. Unfortunately, the rest of us have this morbid fascination with how he gets in his car, rather than focusing on the man's accomplishments.

I think his mere retirement would indeed warrant such a meeting. True or false, right or wrong, Steve Jobs is hailed by many as the best corporate leader ever

Perhaps, but I'm not sure I see Steve stepping down...unless the board forced him to...kind of like how kings and popes very rarely step down. Is is possible that he'd remain titular CEO while Cook or someone else would be de facto or coadjutor CEO.

Interesting series of events... They are releasing the MacBook Pro's on his birthday, so maybe it is a retirement thing.

Maybe they will do a "mass release" with the white iPone, the MacBook Pros, the MacBooks and the iPad 2 on the day Jobs retires...

Everyone!

MacRumors just updated!

Quote- Update 2: We're hearing from other sources that Apple is indeed requiring employees to sign specific non-disclosure agreements for this meeting, a step that is not generally employed for such quarterly meetings, suggesting that something out of the ordinary may in fact be discussed at the meeting.

What do you think of that?

Sorry....yes it's usual.

:( That's not good news... I was trying to gauge the extent of the refresh based on the frenzied anticipation, but if it's the same every time... Maybe I should stop fantasizing about liquid metal, LP and SSD. Ugh, chunky aluminium and odd?

Keep in mind that having a 'secret' meeting adds to the apple image and is a good advertising tactic.

P.

It was a good advertising tactic. This might look good for an underdog but for a major player it looks silly and paranoid.

I think we will find out on Sunday.

Unless we find out sooner. ;)

NDA for a store meeting? Bit excessive don't you think..

I didn't think Apple released internal info without first doing a PR before hand.

I doubt it has anything to do with any new products. And this rumor seems a bit sketchy to me, overall. I've heard, like some other guy stated, that Apple employees are usually briefed on new products on the day of release.

My guess is that it's just a quarterly meeting. Maybe Apple will start with NDAs for all coming forthcoming quarterly meetings... dunno.

So why would there be a NDA associated with announcing an organization change - especially at the RETAIL STORE level?

Think about it.....

Alright, Apple Corps, based on your earlier, snide "business/life experience" comment, you have a more tenured view of what is happening here.

So, what do you think the purpose of the NDA is?

Shareholders vote on succession planning tomorrow if that means anything.

Maybe employees just need to agree to the new terms and conditions of their NDA like I do for the iTunes Store every other week.
