I'm not a gossip-monger, but my money says the meeting is moved to late Friday, and it concerns Jobs' health, and that there will be a public announcement late Friday night. Hopefully, I'm wrong. But that's my bet.

What would be the point of having everyone sign a NDA if they were just going to announce whatever the topic was immediately afterward?

So why would there be a NDA associated with announcing an organization change - especially at the RETAIL STORE level?

Think about it.....

Well, it is all over the news, and they don't want anything to leak out and thus affecting stock prices, plus the "announcment" will be at a time when the markets are all closed....

no brainer....

Alright, Apple Corps, base on your earlier snide "business/life experience" comment, you have a more tenured view of what is happening here.

So, what do you think the purpose of the NDA is?

Not sure there is an "NDA" being required - the "rumors" are just compounding one on another.

In my more cynical moments I wonder if traders float this stuff around to drive the share price down and scoop up more shares at a cost basis.

IF there is a new NDA for real - it could be associated with "Apple Cloud Services" (now I've done it - yet another rumor). That could involve some training for the staff. Steve's health, organization changes, Light Peak introduction - no way IMO.

The man is private about his personal life, and he has every right to be. Even if an NDA was signed, I can't see him EVER giving the green light to fill in hundreds of store employees on the status of his health.

I think the NDA is probably a bunch of crap, dreamed up by someone who heard there is a quarterly meeting coming up.

Exactly.

It makes no sense at all for retail store employees to be given any advance warning about management changes.

Do people here really think Apple is some kind of democracy?
Board changes happen in a rarefied atmosphere very far removed from the day to day grunt work of pushing iToys and AppleCare add ons.

As far as Apple's Board of Directors are concerned, the only thing a store floor salesperson needs to be concerned about is a new product release.

If this meeting is really scheduled then it will be about product. Not the demise of Steve Jobs, and they are not going to be sitting around some virtual iFire holding hands and singing Kumbaya.

Perhaps the employees will have to pay Apple 30% of their earnings too?
I doubt Apple Inc. would even inform the poor b******s, until they get their pay slip. ;)

+1, QFT etc.
;)

Almost every company asks employees to sign NDA, even if they aren't going to be getting any secret information.

I remember WAY back in the days when I use to work for Best Buy, even they made us sign a NDA with our employment papers.

So it might just be a routine "updated" NDA.

That's a good point.

If that change is Steve Jobs I can picture it.

Mingling corporate politics with a token gesture aimed at the minimum wage grunts in the trenches is quite common.

Meaningless but quite common.

It makes somebody feel good about themselves because they're showing the world that a corporate giant cares about its minions and they hope the press picks up on this.

I have inside information,

The iPad 2 will be canceled due to technical problems. The iPad 3 will be released on the planned date of the iPad 2, with all the features and specifications of the planned iPad 2.

Apple will also announce to their workers, the plan to stop the Great Space Marmot Invasion has failed and all workers should report to their designated ark for extrasolar evacuation.

Honestly, If I were Apple and I wanted to keep the content of the meeting secret, I would start 40 or 50 false rumors after the meeting. No one would know what one was true.

It is a big scam to get people to show up on, "Store Cleanup Day". Tell your people, "We are having a secret meeting, anyone late will not be admitted. Sign your NDA today!" When people show up, hand them a mop and a scrub brush and tell them to get to work. We pull the move where I work twice a year.

(last time we said it was a Christmas party with an open bar. People were so upset when they did not get their expected bonus checks.)

Unrest in the Middle East plus all the Apple Rumors floating about (delayed iPads, Steve Jobs, etc.).

We won't know for sure on the Apple stuff until next week...

Whoa - your post #126 was to release the succession plan quickly as Apple Stock is dropping

"Exactly - they better do it quickly, Apple shares are dropping..."

My response positioned the issue as having little to do with any succession plan - it was the market in general.

All hands on deck!

I get a smile every time I read stuff like this, Apple sound more like the CIA or some new Secret organization of the Government.

Expanding a bit on my earlier response...

What is the Release Status of 10.6.7? What about the next IOS release? New hardware should be released shortly and a huge "cloud / data center" in NC is ready to........? The confluence of these things will better explain the "all hands meeting" than all the other ceo / organization changes / succession plan stuff combined - IMO.
