Paying a large amount for the trademark name of AirPower is not a big deal for Apple. They'll simply raise the price for consumers even more and make up the costs involved. I have a feeling the AirPower is not going to be cheap. I'm sure Tim is laughing his you know what off right now...

"claiming that it would interfere with similar trademarked Apple product names, including AirPlay, AirPort, AirPods, and AirPrint"
Could then Nike sue them, because they already use the Name "Air Jordan" since 1984? How could Apple think that they own everything that starts with Air?
And don't forget Air Canada in 1965!

I have dual anker chargers that work perfectly. Had them for years. I think just about everything that is going to have an inductive charger already has one.

In other news, I ordered a Mac mini. Of course, now they'll do a refresh the day after it gets delivered.

I guess this is what the holdup has been then.

How much are we thinking Apple paid for the name rights?

Given that AAT applied for the trademark after AirPower was announced, and that Apple had enough of a basis to file an opposition, probably just AAT's attorneys' fees to date.

In all seriousness, what do you think Apple paid them to buy the name AirPower? Just curious as to how much it would be worth. If I had to guess I would think over a $1M.

I’m thinking many thought Apple couldn’t straighten out the technology.
Many are often wrong, especially when guessing.

this product is so overrated its unreal
Considering it has zero competition and is exactly what some people are looking for, calling it overrated is probably as far off as you can be.

Zen comes in all forms, including something as silly as a charger. This product will do a lot for me.

Glad they are finally getting it out. Let’s hope it isn’t priced out of the market. Although, there is no other charging pad that will do what it does for iOS ecosystem devices.

Considering Ikea sells an iPhone compatible charging pad for $14.99, I'm sure Apple will keep their price reasonable. No more than $299. Fans will line up around the block for it.

seriously. hope it doesn't disappoint, although it has every chance to.
Ultimately, it’s a charging mat. It will charge multiple items, and you don’t have to put each device in a specific area, but there are already charging mats that will handle multiple items. For many people it will be down to cost. If they can buy something cheaper then that is what they’ll buy. A few will buy just because it’s Apple. Some won’t buy it because it’s Apple. I guess I fall into the might be interested depending on the price category. If it’s cheaper than buying 2 or 3 individual chargers, and the competitions mat doesn’t make me look stupid buying an item that has the name Apple on it, I probably will buy one eventually.

And people who can't afford it even at half that price, or have no real interest in the device, will continue to whine. On and on and on.

A pretty specious claim, in my opinion. Does Apple think that every name starting "AirP" rightfully belongs to them for this reason, even if another company already has the legal rights?

Advanced Access Technologies could use the same argument to claim that Apple shouldn't have the AirPlay, AirPort, AirPods, and AirPrint trademarks because they would interfere with its "AirPower" name.

Unfortunately, under trademark law, enforcing against even near misses is important in protecting the value and enforceability of a mark.

No. Some guys here said it has to be called vacuum power I thought. :) Yeah. Because induction works across a vacuum! So there!

So much drama over this product.

All of the impatient fanboys are the source of the drama

Disgusting that Apple relies on their team of lawyers instead of coming up with their own name. The idea that they should own every word prefixed with Air is stupid.

Paying someone for the name is disgusting? You guys are running out of Apple criticism material

Place anywhere is a technical achievement, but from a practical standpoint, I'd argue that Nomad's Base Station Watch edition is darn near spot on for what a phone/watch/airpod owner would want in a wireless charger. AirPower as rumored, sort of doesn't make sense for an Apple Watch with certain bands. But that Nomad? Yeah buddy.

69Mustang, those are fighting words in this forum/s
