Let it go you say? Geez nice attitude you have there buddy. There's actually thousands of people irritated at this solution. Not because we don't want the people that forget to turn wifi/bluetooth back on to be able to press the button accidentally and then know it's gonna not be completely off (whoever asked for this feature? which you're so quick to "give up" on?

To ask other people to "let it go" because you don't have the stamina or whatever, to pursue a correction of this flawed new "feature" and to disrespect thousands of other people, who actually CARE about something like having wifi, bluetooth, 4g turned on or off at their convenience. Well, I can only shake my head at people like you.

Give us your opinions on why on earth you would disrespect the opinions and needs and wants of thousands of people by just "letting go" of key features that most users have come to expect?

It's like if they took away the camera icon cause they wanted you to go to the springboard some more and press apps....wouldn't you be like "give me my god damned camera icon back on the lock screen"

or if from the next update, you're not actually going in to the mail app when hitting a notification in the lock screen - you're taken to disneyworld.com because that's the new partner of apple and we should just "let it go" that we wanted to go into our mail app and read the damn mail immediately like we asked for when hitting the notification on the lock screen.....
There are ten times more people satisfied with this solution. Apple’s marketing team knows better than anecdotal evidence from MacRumors forums...
I couldn’t happier with the change.

Hopefully it will improve the performance of my iPhone SE. Constantly bucking and crashing under iOS 11.1…

Love the way the new control center works. I rarely turn off wifi or Bluetooth totally. If I do need to do that I use Siri. Its quick and Easy But rare. Today at a conference I was happy to easily turn wifi off to disconnect from a network through control center, and also still be able to air drop photos from my iPhone into notes without having to worry. IMHO its a much better design.

2. Can you provide any evidence besides your hurt feelings at this change that more battery is used or even that turning off Bluetooth or WiFi saves much battery?
This.
I believe that the newer bluetooth hardware and stacks are a LOT more efficient (read as negligible) and there is no significant battery saving in having the bluetooth on vs off. as for WIFI, the LTE radio and GPS are heavy battery drainers and its actually more power efficient to keep the wifi ON than off as primarily the device will use the WIFI assisted GPS for location services than the actual GPS and Cellular radio. Turning WIFI off in this case will cause EXTRA battery drain.

Exactly! BT these days are the LE (low energy) type and are very power efficient. I would venture to say more battery power is being used to fire up the display to turn it off and on than is being used just leaving it alone. For those who doubt look up Bluetooth LE and do a little research on the technology.

iOS11 is supported on devices as old as 5s, the onus is on you to prove that devices that are supported with iOS 11 have minimal battery drain, and please show independent results for WiFi and BT.

The issue for me is privacy, there is been hearsay about MAC ID masking for WiFi, but there is no proof and how it works in a real world situation - for eg - MAC ID filtering on a home router. There is plenty of proof that technology companies have products for retailers to track user location and behavior using WiFi and BT. And there are apps that use WiFi and BT location estimation to track user location. I don't want to leave any radios on that I don't have use for.

So once again, the onus is on the claimants to prove their claims about battery life and privacy. Until then Apple should provide a three touch option to turn off WiFi and BT in the CC.

Battery impact

Bluetooth Low Energy chipset power consumption profiles with different configuration parameters, as per The Hitchhikers Guide to iBeacon Hardware by Aislelabs.[41]
Bluetooth Low Energy is designed to enable devices with low power consumption. Several chipmakers including Cambridge Silicon Radio, Dialog Semiconductor, Nordic Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics, Cypress Semiconductor, and Texas Instruments have introduced their Bluetooth Low Energy optimized chipsets over the last few years. Devices with peripheral and central roles have different power requirements. A study by beacon software company, Aislelabs, reported that peripherals, such as proximity beacons, usually function for 1–2 years with a 1,000mAh coin cell battery.[42] This is possible because of power efficiency of Bluetooth Low Energy protocol which only transmits small packets as compared to Bluetooth Classic which is also suitable for audio and high bandwidth data.

In contrast, a continuous scan for the same beacons in central role can consume 1,000 mAh in a few hours. Android and iOS devices also have very different battery impact depending on type of scans and number of Bluetooth Low Energy devices in the vicinity.[43] With the newer chipsets and advances in software, both Android and iOS phones now have negligible power consumption in real-life Bluetooth Low Energy use scenarios.[44]

Didn't specifically address the BT in 5S? Keep on going, how about WiFi performance and the privacy issues?

Nope. Did you guys even try this before typing it out??? Wifi on - airplane mode - wifi back on.......wifi disconnected "till tomorro...lol what a joke" airplane mode - wifi disconnected "till tomorrow" etc...
[doublepost=1511920321][/doublepost]From what i know, Apple is doing this to keep wifi and bluetooth open so "they" can track you. Don't want your phone to not be locating your location and activities now do we?!
No, Apple is keeping wifi and bluetooth on so Apple Watches, AirPods, Apple Pencils, Handoff, AirDrop continue to function as expected.
[doublepost=1511969603][/doublepost]
I had mentioned it in a follow up reply as an aside I've never had bluetooth "re-connect" after clicking the "disconnect to connect" sequence in control panel successfully. I've always had to force a reconnect through settings. Apparently they've also added some weird timeout if it doesn't connect successfully (both bluetooth and wifi) after a few iterations it gives up and never does it again automatically. So a quick function to disconnect bluetooth (nor wifi for that matter) has never been helpful to me than a full and quick access to off and on function for both devices.

Primarily the reason to quickly turn Bluetooth off is for power conservation or that I don't want it to actively hunt for bluetooth devices. I typically as soon as getting out of the car or enter the airport turn it off quickly as I'm very unlikely to use Bluetooth during a day's travels in an airplane and rather conserve battery life all day. Otherwise its on hunting or searching for airdrop contacts, trying to connect for iOS continuity features, etc even when "disconnected".

I want to re-iterate that I'm not totally against the "disable" feature, but given that the control panel is supposed to be customizable, at least give a pane option (for those of us who have relied on that feature since 2013) that does turn off fully and turn on fully those devices (WiFi and Bluetooth) in control panel for fast access. It also gives the piece of mind that "off" means "off" and I won't find out later that someone has figured out a security vulnerability in the future for on disabled bluetooth and wifi.

With respect, I could also use your argument to say if "off" effectively does the "disconnect" and turning "on" from "off" actually forces a re-search action and initiates a re-connect why is it a big deal not leaving it the way it was for years as "on/off".
Idle bluetooth uses a laughably small amount of power in modern phones. If power conservation is your concern, Low Power Mode (now available in Control Center in iOS 11) will be much more effective.

So analysts know the numbers.

Apple appears to have done very well out of the Black Friday promotions. Regarding iPhone sales performance, analysts at Rosenblatt believe Apple saw around 6 million iPhone X sales over the Black Friday weekend, out of a total of 15 million iPhones sold.

The 256 GB iPhone X was twice as popular as the base 64 GB model according to the analysts, a positive sign for Apple’s bottom line.

The only reliable source would be Apple, since they do not announce sales we will never know and I don't believe analysts.

Yes, it has been tried and works as usual when Airplane mode is used (the only new thing there is that it will remember the last state that you had from the last time you used Airplane mode).

As for the reason why things have been changed so that the Control Center settings disconnect rather than turn off now, well, there's what you think is the reason (a conspiracy of some sort), and then there's the quite a bit simpler (although certainly less exciting) more likely reality: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208086

Nope. Doesn't work "as usual". Funny how you guys are so willfully ignoring the fact that THERE HAS BEEN A MAJOR FEATURE REMOVED FOR ALL USERS REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH YOU LIKE THE CHANGE OKAY?!!! Quite sad to see that I have to explain this to you guys to then see comments and gif's that don't tell the whole picture just conveniently proves your point about you liking the new change cause you don't care about privacy. Go ahead. Leave WIFI on all the time.

AND NO, IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE NORMAL CAUSE WE NOW HAVE TO GO INTO SETTINGS REGARDLESS OF YOUR AIRPLANE TRICK THAT DOESN'T WORK.
[doublepost=1511976389][/doublepost]
I seriously can't understand what the big deal is here.

Again. What's the point of these comments? do some reading or ask questions if you don't understand. Don't write comments that support one side just because you don't understand the other side. Geez what is this world coming to. Zero respect for other peoples wishes·

Except the Airplane mode does work as usual (aside from the new feature of remembering the last state). It's been confirmed and even demonstrate. You not wanting to believe it or being upset that WiFi and Bluetooth toggles have been changed in Control Center doesn't change the fact that Airplane mode still works as it did before (with the addition of one new feature).

Again, someone that doesn't want to acknowledge facts: WE HAVE TO GO INTO SETTINGS FOR AIRPLANE MODE TO REMEMBER OFF STATE - THAT'S A CHANGE ! - IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND????

What settings? You enable airplane mode in control center and it enables airplane mode. If the last time when you used airplane mode you had WiFi and Bluetooth turned off then that's the state they will be in when you use airplane mode again.

What settings? Is this a joke? What am I wasting my time in here for?!! THERE ARE ONLY ONE SETTINGS APP ON YOUR IOS DEVICE. YOU HAVE TO GO INTO SETTINGS THEN INTO WIFI THEN TURN IT OFF FOR YOUR AIRPLANE TRICK TO WORK, SO ITS NOT A TRICK, ITS A FOOLS ARGUMENT TO BULLY THE PEOPLE THAT WANT THE OPTION TO USE IT AS IT WAS - WITH 4G ON... HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS TO YOU GUYS? "IF THE LAST TIME YOU BLA...WELL YES IF THE LAST TIME YOU WENT INTO SETTINS TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF WIFI, AIRPLANE MODE REMEMBERS THAT, SO THERES NO POINT IN EVEN MENTIONING AIRPLANE MODE, CAUSE YOU STILL HAVE TO GO INTO SETTINGS TO TURN IT OFF..... THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, IT'S NOT A DEBATE, IT'S NOT A OH YOU WANT THIS BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE IT KINDA THING.

There's no need to go into settings for anything related to airplane mode, as has been explained and demonstrated before.

Does not work this way on my phone on b5. Caps make your post difficult to read.

Is there a CAPS LOCK BUG?

You're wrong and @C DM explained as clearly as possible how this works. No more can be done to help you.

LIAR. AS I HAVE TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO YOU SEVERAL TIMES NOW. PLEASE GO AWAY.
[doublepost=1511977372][/doublepost]

I HAVE TRIED EXPLAINING AS CLEARLY AS I CAN THAT IT DOES NOT WORK - YOU ARE FORCED TO GO INTO SETTINGS TO TURN IT OFF IF YOU WANT 4G STILL ON. NOTHING MORE CAN BE DONE ABOUT YOU TROLLS.

AND YES IT DOESNT REMEMBER WIFI OFF UNLESS YOU ALWAYS GO INTO SETTINGS TO TURN IT OFF CAUSE THATS THE ONLY WAY TO TURN OFF ONLY WIFI - THUS AIRPLANE MODE IS USELESS AND YOU GUYS ARE TRYING TO STEER THE CONVERSATION AWAY FROM THE ACTUAL PROBLEM. HOPEFULLY OTHER PEOPLE READING THIS CAN SEE THIS AND TEST FOR THEMSELVES AND DO WHATS NECESSARY TO MAKE APPLE CORRECT THEIR MISTAKE SO CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY.

No, you're still wrong.

-Enable airplane mode and disconnect wifi and/or bluetooth.
- Disable airplane mode and re-enable those radios
- Engage airplane mode and note that bluetooth and wifi return to whatever state they were in the last time you were in airplane mode, regardless of what they're set to outwith airplane mode.

No you get them because you dont have the ask to join setting turned off.

It doesn't need to be simple to me because I understand how it works. Yes before you HAD to go to settings to enable disable WiFi and BT. Then along came CC that allowed that same function in another place so now you had two places to do the same thing. Now in 2017 they have added another option/feature for those who simply want to disconnect and not totally disable WiFi and BT. BUT they didn't take away anything from those who for whatever reason want to totally turn on/off WiFi and BT constantly. You can still do so just like always, via the settings app that been there since iOS 1, OR via 3D touch on the settings app. So you see there are two ways to do what you want and only one way to do what I and others want. Simple enough? :) But this topic has been beat to death since iOS 11.0 beta 1. No need to have 4 more pages of it in a thread regarding iOS 11.2 beta 5.

Once again, i was not talking about how it is done or not done. I just said it is 3 states now instead of 2. Not required to give unnecessary explanations for what i did not ask for. So yes, we can end this.

Does anyone know if the 8 plus gets any cool new live wallpapers?

Yet we‘re still not there how iOS 11 should have performed and delivered from the very start. Period.

Apple today seeded the fifth beta of an upcoming iOS 11.2 update to developers, more than a week after releasing the fourth iOS 11.2 beta, a month after releasing the first major iOS 11 update, iOS 11.1, and a week and a half after releasing the iOS 11.1.2 update.

Registered developers can download the new iOS 11.2 beta from Apple's Developer Center or over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center.

ios11.2beta-800x500.jpg

iOS 11.2 introduces Apple Pay Cash, Apple's new peer-to-peer payments service. Apple Pay Cash works through the Messages app and is designed to allow for quick person-to-person money transfers. It's available as a dedicated iMessage app in Messages, with cash transferred through the app.

Cash can be sent from a linked debit or credit card, while received cash is stored in an Apple Pay Cash card in Wallet that can be used for purchases or sent to a bank account.

On the iPhone X, iOS 11.2 adds a small bar underneath the icons located at the upper right side of the device on the Lock screen, which is designed to make the location of the Control Center gesture more clear. On the iPhone X, Control Center is accessed by swiping down from the top of the device.

In Control Center on all devices, there are two new informational pop-ups that are displayed when using the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth toggles. These pop-ups explain that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are disabled temporarily rather than permanently when accessed from Control Center.

In iOS 11.2, there's support for faster 7.5W wireless charging for the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus. The faster speeds will be available when using third-party wireless chargers that support 7.5W charging or more.

The update also addresses an animation bug in the Calculator app that caused some numbers and symbols to be ignored when entered in rapid succession. The update removes the animations from the calculator app so calculations can be done quickly with no need to pause between entering numbers to obtain the correct result.

In addition to these bug fixes, iOS 11.2 introduces a new Now Playing option for controlling content on the Apple TV in Control Center, redesigned camera emoji, a new loading animation for Live Photos effects, and new Live wallpapers for the iPhone X, plus it adds a feature that lets developers offer new customers discounted introductory pricing for auto-renewable subscriptions on the App Store.

Update: Apple has also seeded a new version of iOS 11.2 for public beta testers.
