love how MR still can't get a screenshot of the new now playing screen in the article

(i'm talking iPhone, not iPad)

What's notable about this is that Apple is no longer waiting for a major release to add major new features or changes.

Photos app was launched mid OSX 10.10 cycle and now Music is expected to get a major overhaul before iOS 9 is even announced.

Photos was announced as part of 10.10 Yosemite. It just got delayed.

Is there an actual useful UI in landscape view now, instead of the entirely useless album cover view that has persisted for so long?

You are both right. Apple knew when announcing Yosemite that photos wouldn't be ready at launch, so it wasn't necessarily planned to launch at the same time and then "delayed", they prepped the public for it and used a very public beta to sort out all kinks before release.

Clearly flawless updates are their Achilles heal (have been for some time), and so they're utilizing public betas more and more.

It's a good thing for Apple to not marry their app updates to general OS updates. Makes them more competitive now that third parties are making real replacements for native apps (spotify vs music, stitcher vs podcasts) etc.

Perhaps this is something that Apple has had in the works for iOS 8 since the beginning of it's development and it simple wasn't ready until now.

Rumors point to iOS 9 being a snow leopard release in that it's geared towards streamlining and fixing bugs--that said, it makes sense that they'd intro the music app a bit early to get kinks out of the way so it's ready to be perfect for iOS 9.

Yes, but can the new iOS music player crossfade my music like desktop iTunes??? And why hasn't this simple functionality been baked into the existing iOS Music App? Will wonders never cease.

Because 640k isn't enough for everyone? I don't see how scrolling through hundreds and hundreds of albums (I have 650 albums, which I consider pretty modest) is efficient.

Well either you're pretending to be oblivious about the features of iOS 8 or you really don't know; you can actually search for the album by name.

Stop trying to make it sound more complicated than it actually is; you people just love looking for things to complain about.

Echosmith and iOS 6: two things I love. :D Still rocking it on 6.1.2 on an iPod touch 5G.
Nice! I think I may try to find an iOS 6 iPod 5 sometime; would make a good backup.

Except Watch which is black. I expect we'll get it once Apple goes OLED
I would imagine, but at this point I wouldn't put it past them to make it OLED-device exclusive.

Let's not forget the awful podcasts app. It's not white but it is fugly (IMO).
That's one of my top three, all-time favorite iOS interfaces from Apple :p

Ftr, there are plenty of times I want to listen to music but can't think of something specific to search for. I like scrolling though the list and being reminded of things I may like to hear atm.

Anyone know if they'll finally include an option for cross fade?

I couldn't up vote this comment enough +100000000000. I seriously can't believe that Apple's been too lazy to include this option in their iOS Music App. There's other options available in the App Store that do this, but come on Apple.

Appears to be no. Music app isn't doing it and I don't see a setting for it. Sorry.

Anybody else notice that the API differences link has been removed since Mac Rumors took their screenshot?

The feature they need to add to this music player is crossfade. I don't understand how we are on ios 8 and don't have crossfade by my iPod nano had it years ago.

Pure unadulterated laziness on Apple's part. No excuse to offer it on desktop ITunes but not in the iOS Music App. Really quite a frustrating oversight.

So there's nothing to complain about. Glad we got that settled.

Oh my god, what.

I'm not complaining about emojis. I'm complaining about the implicit racism in all of the "outrage" over the new diverse emojis. Reading comprehension ftw.

Oh wow, my bad. I misread your post as basically saying "people weren't complaining about the lack of black emojis". I thought you were suggesting there was no need to change it. Never mind.

Right now I am using the Ecoute music player because of the Up Next feature and I love it! I'm curious to see if the new music app will make me go back to the stock app.

If you use the search, you can see just the specific albums without all the songs.

I'm so excited about this. A revamped music app, with "Up Next" features is the only really enhancement I've wanted out of iOS since 7 was released.

Finally an iOS update to be excited about! It's been way too long!
