The most important thing I hope apple introduces is end of syncing idevices to computer...just imagine, you create a playlist on ur Mac and it seemlsly appears on all your apple device automatically...

Please please please apple, make it so we don't have to sync our devices...

iTunes Match does this. I haven't had to "sync" my music/playlists since this was introduced.

How about a really useful feature like Split-screen multitasking?

There are tons of music apps already available, so considering a new music app the main feature of an OS update is ridiculous. The existing Music app, which replaced the previous one, still is not perfect, so here comes a new buggy Music app for our enjoyment.

Apple has sold .x updates on significantly more pointless features in the (recent) past, I don't think this is as bad as it could be. At least they acknowledge how bad the previous player is/was.

I would not be surprised that iOS 8.4 rolls out the week of WWDC in June 2015. This will be the last of the 8.x versions before iOS 9.0, which will functionally look the same as iOS 8.4 but adds support for the new "iPad Pro" and the iPhone 6S and 6S+ models plus a lot of code optimization for less memory footprint and faster code execution.

Good. The music app's a mess, I don't even want to listen to music on it anymore. Its only saving grace is that it's not quite as disfunctional and useless as whatever the podcasts app thinks its trying to be.

Apple today seeded the first beta of iOS 8.4 to registered developers for testing purposes, just five days after releasing iOS 8.3 to the public. The beta, build 12H4074d, is available for download from the iOS Developer Center, alongside the Xcode 6.4 beta.

iOS 8.4 introduces a newly-revamped Music app, which includes a new design that shows pictures of artists in the Artists view and offers personalized playlists. It also offers a new MiniPlayer, a redesigned look for "Now Playing," global search capabilities that make it easier to search from anywhere within the Music app, and a streamlined design for iTunes Radio to improve music discovery.

According to today's release notes, there are quite a few known issues with the new Music app in the iOS 8.4 beta, so users should be aware of the possible bugs before downloading the update. For example, using Siri to control iTunes Radio does not work, nor does AirPlay streaming. Station sharing for iTunes Radio is not available, it's not possible to start a station from a song in Now Playing, and the Music app may quit unexpectedly when deleting a playlist or rotating the device to landscape orientation, among other issues.

The new Music app in iOS 8.4
iOS 8.4 follows hot on the heels of iOS 8.3, which introduced new diversified emoji, a revamped emoji picker, Wireless CarPlay, and more. iOS 8.4 and the new Music app come ahead of Apple's new streaming music service, rumored to be debuting in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple's upcoming streaming music service, said to be similar to its existing Beats music service with a rename and a focus on exclusive content, may be integrated into this new Music app

Now that's what I call iTunes on an iPad!!! Nice!!!! Looks much better!!!

They should make the now playing interface adjust it's color scheme depending on album artwork. Just like on iTunes.

Add to playlist from song now playing please?

There is no option to add to playlist anywhere. Well, at least I can't figure it out.

Edit: Seems that the bigger playlists you can not add songs too but the smaller playlists I am able to add a song but it's buggy.

But your original question, you can not add from Now Playing screen

There's no whimsy in these flat designs. I want to see some animations, fluidity, bounce in the UI. If you look at games like Letterpress that utilise a flat UI but actually have a look of character. Music is a visceral experience that shouldn't feel like a spreadsheet.

Interesting how they they didnt wait till WWDC or iOS 9 to show it off.

Maybe it means they won't even have time to show off this? More exciting/important features then?

Album Shuffle?

Have they added album shuffle (i.e. playing all the songs on an album in order, then picking a new random album and playing the songs from that album in order)?

This was on non-iOS iPods and is in iTunes but to my knowledge has never been exposed via the UI in iOS. It's in the API and there are apps for it but I'd rather not mess with them if I don't have too.

I've always thought the shuffle button should behave like the repeat button and offer a menu to select "Shuffle Songs" or "Shuffle Albums".

(sorry if this was answered already but my reading of the previous discussion was of shuffling songs within one album)

Great, Apple is touting a feature that is available to only 10% of it user base. Maybe we need to wait another year for Apple to release iTunes Radio to Canada. I got Spotify in Canada before iTunes radio.

Seriously, just compare the proportions of Spotify's player screen to the new Music. Come on Apple, I know you've got it in you to make better looking software.

No, but you can swipe down to go back to the list screen.

It's so strange they don't do that since with Carplay, they talk about safety while driving, but then, for the music app, you have to choose to skip tracks with the little icon (which can be difficult while driving.)

What is the checkmark on the left for and what is the three dots on the right for?

OMG the new music app is amazing! It's buggy sure but it's a vast improvement!

It's also so nice that the repeat/shuffle buttons are toggle buttons - they no longer bring up a list like OS 7 introduced. I always found that so annoying >.>

Unfortunately, the flow is still:
Artist -> Albums w/songs showing

instead of how it used to be (prior to iOS7?):
Artist -> Albums -> Songs

For people like me that actually like listening to albums, this is really annoying. I don't want (a) to have to scroll through a list of songs to get to an older album and (b) the next album to just start playing right after the album I wanted to listen to.

I don't understand the value of showing all the songs along with the albums. It's basically flattening the hierarchy and making it harder to navigate. If someone can point out the value of the Albums w/songs display, maybe I can learn to like it a bit better, but right now I find it really annoying since I have to scroll around so much more just to play an album.

I agree. It used to be that an 'All Songs' button at the top of an artist view would allow anyone who wanted to view all songs by a certain artist to do so, which I thought was the better way to handle things. I also hate that when I group songs by album artist under music settings, all artists' songs are only located under 'Various Artists'. I think this used to be handled better as well: if a library only had one song by an artist that was on a compilation, that artist was excluded from list view, but for artists with multiple songs/albums, you could view their material and their compilation songs together.

I agree! I actually most of the time listening to full albums.

This and several other fatal flaws are the reason I stopped using their Music app altogether. I'm currently using Beats Music as my only music player.

iOS 7 dramatically f'd up everything associated with grouping and sorting at the OS level. How can they not allow you to browse albums without the clutter of songs? At least they could provide a toggle to collapse the view.

The workaround I put up with, that may work for what you need if the flow doesn't change:
Artists-> shuffle icon on the album I want -> shuffle off.
That only loads the songs in that album, doesn't skip to the next album by that artist once it's finished.

Or search, from any view, for either album name or artist. When you tap the album on the results, it only loads that album's songs for playback.

Has anyone in the UK checked passbook? Any sign of apple pay in there?
If visa are due to roll out tokenisation this month, hopefully 8.4 will enable apple pay for UK/Europe once it's ready..
