I just want to add a currently playing song to a playlist :(

I really feel your pain. Reading these Music app threads some people have the most ridiculous nitpicks that would never really bother me.
Yet clearly what you have mentioned is the most obvious and idiotic thing about the Music app, yet nobody talks about it. It basically renders playlists absolutely useless to me.
The new music app looks really nice in my opinion, especially "up next", however judging from some videos I have seen you still cannot add songs to playlists when you are in the Music tab, where I am 99% of the time. I don't get it :(

Because they are on a limited data contract?

Or do a lot of their listening in places where there is no data even available (e.g. on a plane where Wi-Fi is ridiculously expensive) or cell coverage is spotty (e.g. at work where company Wi-Fi is restricted, cell coverage is spotty (downtown skyscraper).

I personally hope that syncing to iTunes always remains. I load a random playlist each night (criteria includes last play date so songs played since the last sync come off the playlist each sync) that gives me enough for the next day. Other than an old iPod Classic that I rarely use, none of my iDevices can hold that entire music library so music is being added and removed every sync.

If iOS 9 really is serious about bug fixes, then it's smart to beta test stuff like this now and get it out of the way. They can announce the juicy bits like rolling Beats into this app, pricing information, better music matching and more at the WWDC keynote.

Do you think Apple are gonna allow Beats to keep all of their separate branding and stuff? Or, with integration into iOS, could it became known as 'Apple Beats' or 'Beats by Apple?' In fact, now thinking about it, Beats almost sounds like a better name for iTunes. Although they probably couldn't change something as large and iconic as iTunes now.

Music ,iTunes no matter what its called has gotten worse and worse for anyone that actually owns their own music collection. Read As: old people that actually know something about music or give a crap. I full expect them to take away the ability to import ones own ( as-in not purchased from apple) music into "music" in the next update.

If they would just separate music from all of the other things that have since invaded iTunes then, yes, Beats would be a perfect name. :)

Music is important to me. I have imported 1413 tracks mostly from older CDs not sold in the iTunes Store. I am still using iTunes 10.7, the best music software ever, with Cover Flow, and love it!

Also still using iOS 6 to keep Cover Flow and a good music app.

Pretty soon nothing will work with the modern world, outdated, but at least my music works really well.

Why oh why did Apple decimate what used to be the best, most elegant powerful logical intuitive music software? Why destroy a really good thing?

The work was already done. It is ssooooo good, 10.7

I just feel like iTunes is a very dated name which doesn't really seem to fully represent the service. I know the iTunes Store sells more than just music now, but Beats still seems like a better name. It's already a well-known brand and has a bunch of other connotations. Beats as in the beat of music, but also the beat of life and staying in rhythm with technology. Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but it seems like a logical change to me.

I just received an update today on my 6+ for the Amazon Music app and I have to say it has slowly turned into a darn good app for both my uploaded and Prime Music libraries. I Like it better than what I'm seeing coming from Apple

They need to fix iTunes Match because it works horrible on my 6 plus. It pauses and makes doubles in my library. Pandora doesnt have issues with streaming either so I know its not my device.

Hoping they ditch the animation which shows which track is playing in album track list. A static icon is the way to go. I thought everyone realised decades ago that animations are annoying.
They lost any semblance of common sense or design competency with the release of iOS 7. In my opinion, that is. Their interfaces and UX have become sterile and boring which is particularly off-putting for enjoying music.

Change everything every 2 years but keep it 100 percent stable, amirite?

okay. tl;dr

Is the flow now: Artist -> Album -> Song?
os does it still go from Artist --> All songs?

Unfortunately, it's the latter. There are a few pages of argument about whether this matters. It obviously does if you care about browsing through and listening to albums.

And before someone beats the dead horse again... no, having search capability does not make up for not being able to browse to an album.

Haha, I'm running software that is exactly the same as it was when I downloaded it almost 3 years ago, and will remain the same for the foreseeable future. I have no problem with that; it looks beautiful and works extremely well. So I saw no reason for a change in the first place.

Lol same. My iPod 4 and iPhone 4S both look beautiful, both function properly, and above all, both do not glitch out. The iOS 6 UI makes me want to love using my phone! (Newer material design makes me sick!) :(

Now, with the music app, The play next feature is nice but, it is not original. I have seen it on the old defunct Music Player called a Zune On a Zune 4 (4gb), it is pretty much like a iPod Nano running Microsoft Software. Two unique things it had was the ability to listen to the radio (imagine doing this on a iPod Nano! :D) and, the ability to select one song to play after your current track ends. (2007ish technology)

Isin't this ironic? 8.4 shares 2 of the features that were existant in Microsoft products in 2007? (besides the miniplayer)

Back to the 8.4 beta music/beats (tbd) player,

Are the new features innovations that make listening to music easier--> yes
does the new UI look beautiful--> No (it looks sloppy)
Is it worth the update --> No

Apple could have made a advantage with both the mini-player (already jailbreak existent) and, the up next music feature. However, the execution looks sloppy and, I am not going to waste my time with the new app. Hopefully, this beta will change to better reflect us users!;)

Thanks for clarifying this. I can't believe that this still isn't fixed.

Anything to simplify switch between cloud / local music

Is there anything in place to make it to switch between seeing all your icloud / iTunes Matched music available in the cloud and Local only music? right now its a pain to swap when I don;t have wifi and leave the app and go into the Settings panel to turn "Show all music" off (or on).
