My MacBook came with Leopard, but I wish there was a way to "downgrade" to Tiger for free. Is that possible? If so, is a data backup necessary?

My current deal-breaker issues with Leopard:

1- there is a trail of bitmaps that follows my mouse pointer everywhere it goes, it's extremely distracting. The problem disappeared with one update that came between 1.5.0 and 1.5.1, and which wasn't advertised as fixing this issue. Now that I've gone to 1.5.2 the problem is back.

2- Finder is HORRIBLY slow whenever I click on a folder and want to see its content. For at least 2 seconds you think the folder is empty, but then finally the content appears.

I haven't seen problem #1 reported anywhere, which makes me even more pessimistic about it ever getting a permanent fix. Problem #2 on the other hand has been bugging others.

I honestly don't care about any of the new features that Leopard has brought. In fact, I'd happily live with Panther, which served me well on my previous machines. But when you buy a new Mac you just don't get that kind of choice, it's very frustrating. I just want a reliable OS.

I'm hoping after this update I don't I have to manually quit Finder and reload it, to make it see new computers on the network.

Hopefully this fixes a Spaces bug where it forgets mouse button bindings occasionally, usually after relaunching Dock or Finder.

My personal wishlist:

- fix the problem Mail has developed with pinging when it gets new mail, both on startup of the app and even when it's already open

- fix the problem of not being able to set up Airport Express units reliably from a Leopard machine (my Leopard iMac cannot do it, my Tiger Powerbook has no problem at all)

- fix the Spotlight search so that items can be filtered by size.

Does anyone know how long it took for Apple to release 10.5.2. since the first seed to developers? It would be interesting to know approximately what we are talking about here regarding the wait (and yes, I know that it cannot be completely compared..:p)

Maybe 3rd times the charm with their WIFI problems? My MBP has been religated to being my desktop with an external monitor, keyboard, mouse and Ethernet because WIFI has been useless since some patch between 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 Somewhere in there something caused my system's WIFI to be useless and it isn't hardware because it works fine in XP under bootcamp.
So yah....my MBP makes a great desktop....maybe 10.5.3 will turn it back into a usefull laptop again.

Ummm... All these issues people are listing? You have err.... like reported them to Apple?

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

More constructive (and more likely to get results) than whining about it on some out of the way forum.

Unless you like whining just for the sake of it :p

As if Apple listens. I've seen people report their problems and with each release they complain that the issue was never resolved. Yes if it's something minor it will be a lower priority, but if OS X is so rock solid and stable that should be all they are focusing on at this point.....no?

While I'm new to mac, I believe that 10.5.2 took unusually long time to go from first seed to public. This one by all means should be quicker.

What in Leopards name is Perian?

i've been having a lot of problems with Safari hanging. it's pretty annoying since it does it at least three times a day now.

Leopard works great for the most part though. for me at least.

lol @ people arguing about this. take it easy..who cares how long you've been using Macs? geez, some mac users make it seem like Apple is the best company in the world when actually they're just like everyone else.

money hungry.

Ummmmm... I think you'll find that, errrrrrrr... YES WE HAVE. They're all really quite, ummmmmmmm... WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUES.

Errrrrrrr...

D'OH.

memory

Didn't they say they fixed the memory leak in 10.5.1? I don't think this will solve memory leaks until you put at least 10gb of ram in. Then you shouldn't have a problem.

Why does the disk permission and check disk take so long and does not show the progress bar from clicking on Mac OS X 10.5.2? Tiger did that much better!

memory leak fixes and stability are always a plus. but PLEASE Apple fix the Time Machine bug where Dashboard, Exposé and Dictionary keyboard & mouse shortcuts are cleared after restoring or deleting a file in Time Machine!!!

i cant believe no-one had said this yet!

OMG, I hardly survived the wait for 10.5.2 as rumors said we would get it any day now - and then it took weeks to be released.

And here it starts again. By the end of April everyone in here will start going crazy...

:apple:

All I hope is that they increase the MenuBar and Menu Transparency. Update Front Row to the ATV 'Take 2' Interface. Fix Finder scrolling stutter (safari too please). Possible Kinetic Scroll (ala iPod Touch Scroll). The LoginWindow bug where if you have a list of users, click it and start typing immediately the List stays on TOP of the text field. And finally, make the Minimize Genie quite a bit smoother (pixel smoothing as its so rough and stop it stuttering).

The minimize one really annoys me, only because if Windows Vista Aero can do it very smoothly... Then why cant OS X?.

I don't mean to sound negative, and I hope this doesn't generate a bushfire in this thread, but these are my Leopard Gripes.

Certainly when you report issues through http://bugreport.apple.com Apple listens far more than pretty much any other company I've reported issues to, especially Microsoft (who just claim most bugs are "by design", or if they are reported in the wrong place they won't move them).

Personally I haven't had any real issues with Leopard on my MacBook, except possibly the Mail "ping" issue (mentioned above). I think a lot of people with problems might find an Archive and Install of Leopard would clear some of them up.

Actually, I don't think that's true. Do you have an example of an unsolved problem? I have many examples that prove otherwise, and problems that happened specifically to me.

Too bad he asked how long it took for them to release 10.5.2 and NOT when it was released. Behold the power of not reading correctly.

Hopefully they'll fix the problem with printing wirelessly over A-express with leopard. I have no problems in tiger, but leopard? It's so bad, that if I try to do it through leopard it cocks up the airport express and printer so badly, I have to restart both the express and printer before I can once again print through tiger wirelessly.

I wash my hands 7 times after shaking hands with anyone and so far after 5 years of doing so I don't have cancer! Yeah yeah I know people think what I'm doing is not necessary, but 5 cancer free years proves otherwise.

Try washing them 10 times and you'll go back in time. Yeah yeah and your point is?
