Just installed this on a Retina iMac and has totally screwed the display resolution.
Why is it called beta? Their releases are buggier than beta, and their beta's are more like alphas.
Making microsoft look good.

That's because it isn't Apple.
Things have become much more complex, and with so many different types of environments nowadays (from more-than-decade-old ARM7's to the unbelievably clever i7 series multiplied by an intimidating number of toolchain configurations), changing anything in the toolchain makes a particular build for one application worthless.
It is a problem today *and it's a problem for everyone. Whether you write JavaScript in node.js or C for a Debian package, it's a tricky game to get compatibility right.
Apple didn't screw up anything out of the ordinary. They're not "degrading". The reason there are so many more betas is the fact that the landscape has become a lot more fragmented.
I'm sure either Apple or Google will push an update to make things "alright" again. Meanwhile, please realize that this is the point of having a beta.
Betas are worthless if one is to assume nothing is going to be broken.

Apple needs to focus intensely on Quality.
Apple has gotten to the top because of its reputation for quality. Customers are willing to pay a higher price because they demand higher quality. Long time Apple customers are becoming disillusioned! (Read the latest 500 reviews on the App Store - over 50% are negative).
Many of these negative reviews could have been avoided if Apple had paid attention to the Apple Seed Testers (They appear to have been ignored during the development of Yosemite).

Allow users to customize the user interface. Microsoft was forced into allowing greater customization when the Windows user base started growing dramatically in the 90's. Microsoft faced constant pressure and complaints for customization features. When Microsoft removed the customization features in Windows 8 their customer base was outraged and created Microsoft all sorts of problems. Apple is now in the same position.
Here are the features I wish Yosemite had.
Ability to customize OSX in the following ways:
Ability to change Dock color, and Finder Sidebar colors if transparency is turned off.
Ability to set which items are transparent or not.
Light colored transparency or dark colored transparency.
Optional larger font size for the Menu bar. (This is becoming a big issue with potential switchers.)
Option to set the default behavior of the Green Button. Personally I wish I could set it to open full window and not full screen. Why? Quick access to the Menu bar and the Dock are important to me. In addition, I dont like the delay switching between full screen and non full screen.
Option to set the default screen size upon opening an app. This option could be placed in Get Info. I suggest three options Full Screen, Full Window, Windowed.
It would be so nice not to have to rearrange the app each time I open it.
Arrow Snap Microsofts best contribution to graphical computing (for arranging windows side by size on the screen).

I have a bug where the MacBook Pro is docked in clamshell mode. Every so often it will totally shut off. When it restarts it says sleep/wake failure. Ive had this since the betas and submitted multiple bug reports. Apple fix this one! Take some time with 10.10.2 and make it solid please.
feel free to enjoy your microsoft if it pleases you.

Very good point indeeeeeeed. To the whiners: it would be great if you could report your problem to apple and help to improve the products. At your leisure of complaining. No one else knows how to complain so hard when you don't even have WiFi.
At the rate of which bugs are being fixed, I'm glad I sticked with Mavericks instead of upgrading.![]()
Has the issue been fixed on where if your running an external display off a Macbook, on start up the log in screen SHOULD appear on the external display and not on the Macbook?
I made my Cinema Display my primary display, and upon starting the computer every time, the log in screen still appears on my MacBook Pro!
Very annoying

Animations are much smoother system-wide (especially in About This Mac!). Yay. This feels like Apple-quality animations again.
Agreed, the first thing I noticed with Yosemite was the About tabs being so jerky and lagged badly. I don't know why this was not polished before release. No other OS version has this issue.

Companies have a certain ethos, and Apple's ethos -- baked in by Steve Jobs -- was that Apple knows best, and the customer has no idea what they want. Until you get rid of Apple's know-it-all syndrome, they're not going to listen.
The only way to change that is for Apple's sales to start falling.
