As far as I'm concerned this operating system has been getting progressively worse in the past few years. Here's an example.

I've been having a huge issue where Safari will cause the entire operating system to freeze for a minute at a time. Go check the 10.11 forums and you'll see it is not an isolated case. So I've been updating to every beta in the hopes that it'll fix it, since Apple is aware of this issue. It's still present all 10.11.1 builds.

So now I update to the 10.11.2 beta in the hopes that they merged a fix, only to get a whole new showstopping bug thrown at me: simply moving the mouse around causes noticeable 0.5-second system hangups.

I've really had it with this terrible Q&A.

Wonder how many releases since they ****ed up Wi-Fi it will take till Wi-Fi is solid and reliable again.

Granted mine has been fine for ages but now it's decided that Wi-Fi will disconnect when I wake the laptop (on battery), awesome :)

although I am not developer, I was able to download 10.11.2. how could this be possible?

If you knew how to use a Mac, you would know that you can't generally install a version of the OS earlier than the one it came with, and it certainly wouldn't support the new hardware that didn't even exist when older versions of the OS were current.

Rubbish. If you know how to do it, you can install whatever you want to. Very old versions might not run but Yosemite on iMac works like a charm. I did that by myself.

As I wrote even the last Beta of 10.11.1 did not support the hardware of the new Skylake iMacs. They came with a special build of 10.11.0, because the one you get on older Macs does also not support the hardware.

How should Yosemite or even older work then on it?

But it seems the annoying iCloud bug is gone now with 10.11.2.

The new beta can be downloaded through the Apple Developer Center and through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.

I am a developer and when I go to the Mac App Store, this does not show up in the updates. Is this an incorrect statement or am I supposed to be able to get beta releases in the App Store now?

Honestly, everything was working smoothly with Yosemite. I just don't understand how they can 'improve' their OS with a new release and suddenly, things stop working (wifi issues, usb issues...). Couldn't they just add new options without creating problems with options that were already working perfectly? With me, I had to go back to Yosemite because of audio units issues within Logic Pro X. If I were using another piece of software, I could understand. But being an Apple pro software user, I don't get it. Also, it was not possible anymore for me to sync my files (photos and music) between my various Apple devices. I have an iPad 1st gen, an iPod touch 4th gen, an iPad mini 2, an iMac 2007 and a MBA 2013. I keep all these units perfectly in sync under Yosemite, but with el Capitan, it became a mess (because of Photos replacing iPhoto and because of iTunes 'improvements'. You're going to tell me to change my devices. Give me the money and I'll gladly change them. Also, why should I put in the garbage devices that are otherwise fully functional for my needs? Isn't there enough stuff filling up garbage sites like that? Don't you care about the environment? More and more, a new Apple OS means more headaches for me. It didn't use to be that way. Apple engineers used to take their time to ensure quality control before releasing (that was when Jobs was there to bitch at any employee who dare to deliver low-quality hardware of software). Now, with a new OS every year almost, Apple engineers can't make sure all is perfect - it's just not possible. They've moved from the highest quality OS one could get to a Microsoft/Android mentality where they just think that it does not matter if there are bugs, they'll fix it. They don't understand that it creates a lack of trust for the company and that it creates a decline of their image. I remain generally a very happy Apple client and user, but I'd wish they'd think more about their users instead of making more and more profit.

I have noticed on the good end "zippier" program openings/closings on a HDD, faster safari, but I have also noticed slight weird "hang ups" like a user reported on this page...it's odd.

Apple Mail has been brutal under 10.11.1... I use iCloud and when switching between messages, it seems to take a bit to load... I have a fast 60Gbps internet connection... Why are these messages not all loaded?

Which features?

EDIT: Just read that there is zero raid support in El Capitan Disk Utility. Wow... this is a huge mistake and will guarantee we won't be moving to El Capitan in our studio until they fix it. We run all of our projects on mirrored drives in our Mac Pro towers. There is no way we'd be willing to give up that data security for the new El Capitan features. This is a massive mistake on Apple's part.
FWIW I did a time machine restore (from Yosemite to El Cap) for my cMP that had a RAID set and it works fine. Found this as well if my RAID ever goes sideways: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/480-disk-utility-patched-v2/

I have wondered and asked this myself many times. What seems clear to me is that Apple thinks of us a a heard (think the walking dead show) of zombies who will blindly follow no matter what. We think there is something new, something better while we end up with other broken stuff. I'm also convinced that a good deal of what you read about as bugs on these forums are whole ignored by Apple as they don't, for whatever reason, see them as bugs. The whole thing is totally illogical and they seem to be caught up in their own hype. I guess I'm a zombie just like the rest of us.

Not entirely. There is just 1 version of el capitan which still supports it. You can repair permissions with a bootable usb of developer preview 1.

So I'm glad I kept my DP1 bootable usb stick. Usually old developer previews are pretty useless after public release. But this is an exception.
Oddly, the third party utility "El Capitan Cache Cleaner" has an entry for "Repair Permissions" and does seem to go through the motions to do just that. Not sure what is really going on there though. Oynx also has this. Guess it still works.

Browsing through the docs / downloads related to Xcode I noticed an updated changelog for Safari 'beta' on Yosemite / Mavericks - specifically the ability to refresh the page without content blockers, that's the biggest change I noticed.

Any improvements to Time Machine?
Currently it crashes every time I try restore file or folder. I reported it to Apple but haven't heard anything from them.

Also is there any hope Apple would restore missing functionality to Disk Utility?
I could use Terminal but it's not practical because one wrong keystroke and RAID is gone...

El Capitan is flawlessly fast. Imo, the problem is updating a new OS on top of an old OS. This has always caused problems, lags and bugs. This was confirmed to me by multiple apple employees, still apple recommends doing this and it's even the only way they officially support.

Make an El Capitan boot disk (google diskmaker x), back up your stuff, format your drive (you can do this from within the El Capitan boot disk), install EL Capitan, manually migrate whatever you need (there are guides how to manually migrate mail etc available online) and enjoy the best OS since Snow Leopard: blazingly fast and zero bugs. My Macbook Pro (late '13) came with Mavericks, the ram would easily fill up and the fan would blow. Now it good as never blows (only when I'm rendering some videos and using 100% cpu) but I can have 50 tabs open, dozens of other programs, no fan, never any lag, no problems...

I am new to Mac overall. I know what kind of issues there are with the iOS and I am typically updating to a new iOS at the very end of it's cycle. I purchased a rMBP 15" in May and it had Yosemite. This is the only Mac OS I know and having this iOS experience I am in no rush to get the El Capitan. When, do you think, there is going to be a version of this OS that will just work with no issues? thank you.

Because apparently all their engineers are working on emojis.

Interesting. I have been using Safari on El Capitan extensively on two computers since it was released – 42 tabs currently open as I type this on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011) with 16 GB RAM – and I have not seen this slowdown you're talking about. OS X on this computer was updated from Yosemite, so not a fresh install. Same for my other computer (a Mac Pro from 2010).

I wonder what it is that causes the issue for you and the others – and why I don't see it.

10.11.1 is working fine for me. But if you're happy with Yosemite, maybe wait until 10.11.2 is out of beta.

Add missing Disk Utility features and I'll die happily thank you bye
Perhaps the only annoyance in El Capitan for me at least. Disk Utility as it stands is limited when adding multiple partitions for different OS X releases.
Fortunately there is a solution. If you are fortunate enough to have an OS X Mavericks install USB you can use the old Disk Utility on there.

Anyone still working with Yosemite doesn't know what they are missing out on. El Capitan is essentially the modern day Snow Leopard.
