and no they didn't "fix" green button maximize. there's nothing to 'fix" as it isn't broken. maximize by double clicking the title bar.

It's definitely broken. I work on a 24" monitor. My laptop is 17" with a resolution of 1920x1200. I don't need nor do I care for 'full screen' that hides the menu bar. I work in the Adobe Creative Suite every day and need access to the menu bar along with the dock menu to switch between illustrator/indesign/photoshop (among other apps). I am NOT going to swipe between all full screen apps either as that is asinine and counter productive to true multitasking when dragging/dropping objects/files between apps.

So yeah, the green button is definitely broken. Badly. It's a miserable nightmare. More importantly, it's an easy fix if apple just got it's head out of it's ass and added a simple option in System Preference to let the user decide how the green button behaves. I'll raise the stakes even; let the current behaviour remain as default just to satisfy you. But AT LEAST give me the option to change this garbage.

Did they fix the finder's lack of proper cut/paste with cmd+x/cmd+v?
Did they fix the green button to maximize windows without hiding the menu bar or the dock?

If not, I'll stick to Yosemite.
Already answered, in separate posts… Move has always been present in OS X and now, since Yosemite or El Capitan you just need to copy (cmd+c) and move (cmd+option+v) or you can do as always dragging while pressing the cmd key.

No issues with the green button. Option key is your answer.

why would ANYBODY want to download mavericks if they never used it before (thus don't have it in purchased tabs?) like, your comment doesn't make any sense.

Well several people on mountain lion who skipped mavericks were stuck with having to upgrade to yosemite or el capitan and end up posting comments like

"I hate yosemite. How do I download mavericks?"

or

"I hate el capitan. How do I download mavericks?"

It's available as torrents or downloads from dubious websites, but do apple really want to encourage this by not making mavericks legitimately available to such people?

I think it very dangerous to install a system downloaded from such illegitimate sources.

It would be better if they at least still make it possible to obtain redemption codes for mavericks, just as they do for lion and mountain lion.

But alas they don't and herein lies the problem.

Double click the title bar , it's easier as you can click it anywhere you want it without searching for that little green dot. Even better use keyboard shortcuts. I'm working on a 24" inch and never use full screen apps. Sounds like you're just stubborn and don't wanna learn anything new or adapt to something new

And I wish so badly I could watch your face when you try to press that option key while hitting that green button… Since Yosemite that this feature is in OS X!!! I can't believe you are so pissed off with something that has always had an answer!!! :)

It's annoying and near all windows only get enlarged slightly. Please explain why.

If not, I'll stick to Yosemite.

Point 1: It doesn't have cut/paste per se. It does have copy/paste or move (with Opt key) which I find better.

Point 2: If you want to enlarge or shrink your window, you can do it 1 of 2 ways... first, like someone already said, double-click the title bar. Second, hold the Opt key before you click the green button (It changes it from a full screen button to enlarge/reduce button).

HTH

Because OS X maximize has always been a mess. Download betterSnapTool if you want to snap Windows like in win7 and Maximize windows to almost full screen (with dock and menu bar present). Fortunately OS X is not iOS and we have MULTIPLE options and can customize it at will

Ironically, if they didn't upgrade to Mavericks in a -year-, because they probably thought what, that mountain lion was better, they would suddenly decide to try Yosemite, hate it and only God knows why would decide to not go back to mountain lion (which they love) but go "back" to Mavericks (which they never used) because they think it's somehow better ? Talk about logic eh.

Did you redimensioned the windows before? I think there's a default size, if you enlarge it when you press the maximize button (option+green button) it will resize to your enlarged size. I'm not so sure about this but it was like that in older OS X versions. I don't have that problem, when I maximize a window it will full fill my screen keeping the menubar, you know!

Is the Preview outdated now? It has two build numbers...

I thought there would be an update too for it today and iTunes 12.4.

I've had a nagging problem. Have 3 WD external USB 3 hard drives plugged into a USB 3 8-port hub. I eject drives, unplug, use my rMBP at the kitchen table for an evening or day. I go back to the office and plug in the USB 3 hub. My rMBP does not notice the drives plugged in and does not mount them. After a reboot they mount normally. Have a bug report going with Apple and have sent them several sysdiagnose.

Will install 10.11.5 beta 1 and see what happens.

Do you have another usb hub to test it?

Steve is rolling in his grave! Why so many betas? When Steve was alive there have been no beta releases.

Still rocking my Jaguar iMac G4! Stable as hell! Apple is going down the drain.

Now where is my Bull cassette cartridge.

Developer releases always existed, at least from Mac OS 9.
And the first release of Mac OS X was a public beta, called Kodiak.

So, even if he could, Steve would not be rolling in his grave.

That's an application called Pacifist that can open OS X installer packages. If you download the updater, then open it with Pacifist, you can see the file listing.

What is the difference between both? Looks like "Patch" is just better compressed. All folders and files seem to have exactly the same size.

Look in Resources tab. There you will find a thing called Payload. This contains most of the stuff and they are VERY different between the patch and delta. Much bigger for the delta.

As I said before, unless you are absolutely sure you only need the patch, it is safer to install the delta - otherwise you may end up with a half-baked version of 10.11.5 with bits missing which could result in kernel panics or other such nasties.

@tywebb13 Yes I saw differences in the Resources tab, but I did not know what it is and thought both had the same size uncompressed. Maybe I had a screenshot and the same package open in Pacifist. My concentration is not the best.

So, the Patch Update is just for some kind of Macs, that don't need everything?

I installed the Delta Update directly after the Patch Update.
