Right. But that still doesn't make it a rational decision, given that Apple is essentially forcing Photos on all their users. Yes, I could just stick with iPhoto. But since iPhoto has pretty much always supported drag-and-drop onto other apps (as have almost ALL of Apple's apps), I couldn't imagine Photos having next-to-no support for it.

Lets hope things change in future versions.

Forced? Why do Mac users feel compelled to only use default apps? You can't expect Apple to make a basic, standard, prosumer and pro versions. Why not hunt around for the app that meets all your needs?

Photos App

I hope the Photos app is getting some attention.

I agree this needs some serious attention. I have called Apple support three times with questions/problems with this potentially fine, but flawed app.

Each time "put the person over the barrel" thus necessitating a long hold & then a senior specialist to attempt the fix.

This was only after I thoroughly researched the problem or "how to" with no results.

Each time the Apple specialist admitted in the end there were some big problems that would be addressed & they would by notifying Apple programmers. Hopefully this has happened!

Forced? Why do Mac users feel compelled to only use default apps?

Because they're free and they're the defaults? And really, because everything was working fine up until Photos. Macs had the workflow I needed built right into them; that's been one of the attractions about the platform. Now if I have to start cobbling together all sorts of other apps to do what I want, what's the advantage in owning a Mac? It's all just supposed to work, right?

So, Apple has how many millions of Macs out there and everybody has the same needs? You never install anything on your Mac at all? I hear you, and its nice that a default app suits, but one default app cannot suit everyone. And I don't see the issue of installing apps that suit best as cobbling together, its customising a default OS to suit the user best.

What bugs are you experiencing? It's been rock solid for me on an early 2009 iMac with 8GB of RAM. Honestly not a single issue.

Apps crashing so badly they can't even be force quit (hard restart required), graphical glitches in games, photos app deleting pictures after iPhoto import (all of my pics were there originally and then photos actually started deleting them!), and general system sluggishness/lag/nonresponsiveness. I don't have the wifi/Bluetooth issues. All this under 10.10.0 back in October and 10.10.3 this weekend.

I'm not saying my experience is typical, but it *is* my honest experience. I find Yosemite unusable. My system is a late 2013 13" rMBP 2.4/8/256/Iris, so well within suggested specs.

I really hope this version fixes the issue of Five Guys putting too much ketchup on my burger. Until then I'm sticking with Snow Leopard.

I've now tried to download this Public Beta update about ten times (UK again!) with the same freeze at 78.7 that others have experienced. Is there any other way of getting it?

It seems to be a faulty copy of the file on the UK directing file server, I got it to download in the end by VPN'ing myself to USA..

I am in the UK with the same problem

The odd thing is dragging DOES work for some apps. For instance, I can drag from Photos to Messages, but can't drag from Photos to Twitter.

I already reported this as a bug a couple versions ago, but it hasn't been fixed yet.

I would guess that this is more Twitter not recognizing a drag FROM Photos as being from a source that it knows how to accept rather than an issue with Photos refusing to let you drag TO any other App...

SHOCKING! Sort your ****** out APPLE! I'm a PRO and deserve better! If you don't fix this I'll be switching to Windows!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I don't know whether this is coincidental but I changed my DNS to Google (8.8.8.8) but it now downloaded and installed fine.
Nope, that didn't work either. Never had any problems with previous beta updates............
Update: Worked with Google DNS at second attempt. Thanks Peewit106.

I have done SMC and PRAM reset still not working. Definitely something wrong the public beta. Are you public channel or Dev?

Either of you use Clean my Mac 3? i think it might becoming a cache download problem

Late 2008 MacBook issue

I installed the OS X beta on my Late 2008 MacBook Pro and it caused mine to overheat and shut down to prevent a hardware failure. The only way I could fix it was to rollback to a Time Machine backup. I think it's time for me to upgrade anyway, what do you guys/gals think?

I am having this problem too like others. Gets to 78MB and stops then won't let me update. Says update has changed and to show details.

I have emptied caches and still no luck.

Im also from the UK.

Thanks.

I am from UK too. Hope they fix it soon!!
Workaround, download on a US Vpn connection

Yep download on a US vpn

For those of you who rely on it, the 10.10.4 update replaces any custom Apache and PHP configurations and settings you might have.

Be sure to back those config files up!

To get the app store download working in the UK..

Change your DNS server to 8.8.8.8

Quit and restart App Store , check for updates and download.

Done this on my 4 Mac's and all completed now.

Why it gets stuck I am not sure

BTW, FC does have a Photos tab, but when you click it you're simply told, "You must open Photos to see your images" (which of course then can't be imported).

Photos integration in FCP X works fine here. Are you on FCP X 10.2?

That's just it, though; dragging photos from Aperture to Twitter DID work. Apple changed whatever API they were using for "drag a photo" and it has broken things.

Interestingly, it appears that this beta enables trim on 3rd party SSDs. On a 2012 Air with an OWC SSD and a 2012 Mini with a home-brew Fusion drive using a Samsung 840 Pro, running fsck reported "trimming unused blocks" just as if a 3rd party trim enabler tool was installed.

Didn't previous betas and final builds achieve the same "feat"?

No.

I have the same Samsung 840 Pro, mine was enabled before this beta update, disabled after it.
At least it still boots when you had it enabled, but I know my way out of it.

discoveryd is gone and replaced by mDNSresponder in this seed.

:D:cool:

I replaced it myself before this beta, still had problems, but happy to see it go.

See if it helps after deleting all caches and removing the SystemConfiguration folder.
Fingers crossed.
