1: I'm not a dev, but I had no problem loading iOS 4 GM on my phone back then. Will I be able to download and install this beta without being a registered developer, or is that only for GM releases?

2: Do I have to delete everything in my phone to upgrade to this beta release as I did when I upgraded to iOS 4 GM?

You can upgrade to 4.2 betas without UDID. Just shift-check for update(update button on itunes, and NOT the restore one). I did this from 3.2 and 3.2.1 to 4.2b1 and 2. It works just fine. Be sure to have your iPad activated before. I wouldn't try it on iPhones though...

I wish Apple would just release its software sooner. The current stuff is as buggy as ever, so why not slap us with new features more quickly?

So you feel it's too buggy, but you want them to release software SOONER? Awesome plan.

Adding a MobileMe account on the iPad itself doesn't crash the Settings application like beta 2 did.

And is it just me or is the default wallpaper now higher resolution?

It just amazes me the people that install a Beta and aren't Dev's.

Just for the record, Beta 2 was buggy as was beta1, especially with sandbox and mail app, but kiddies playing with a beta think its all fairy dust and Magic, oops that's right it is at least Magic.

Im happy to see a new beta, app design for some has been not existent since bugs had to be resolved before work could continue. Yes it was that bad and worse than all betas prior to 4.2

Now as long as the mail app allows PDF's to open in my app without blanking the document, design work can continue which will make me a happy camper.

Are those around 15 text message sounds new or not? Has been a long time since I last looked into that specific menu.

Yip, they seem new - the old ones are now under Original.
(still a bit crappy though)

I agree with others the screen updates seem faster, although not so sure about other bits ...

The iPad beta 3 image size is 30MB larger than the previous beta 2. Interesting to see what could be causing the increase in image size...

another thing they have "fixed" is that now the default 4.2 background (rain drops) are in hi res instead of being all blurrly like they were in previous iterations

Odd. I don't see the new text tones under the Sounds menu on my 3gs. If they're iPhone 4 only (no reason they should be), I'll be quite annoyed. =/

So, can someone please confirm that the Option-Upgrade trick still works for non-registered devices?

You need to be a PAID Apple developer, this is not a Golden Master Release, this is a developer only pre release beta not for public distribution. Wait patiently.
