I wonder if this still means that you would have to give up unlimited Data and go with 2-gig plan to tether / hotspot ???

Probably, but don't worry, if Verizon's network is very reliable for calls, fairly fast, and offers unlimited data with a hotspot, ATT won't be able to hold out too long without offering the equivalent options (especially if facetime on 3G is allowed for Verizon phones). ATT is probably just waiting it out hopping Verizon's network can't handle the strain the iphone will bring. They are hoping after a couple of months, once Verizon has picked up all its new clients, they will downgrade the unlimited plan and remove the free hotspot service. Let's cheer for Verizon's network and plans to hold so that ATT has to anti up.

You can pretty much bet on that. AT&T isn't going to allow unlimited data over a tether or hotspot (right now you lose the unlimited data plan if you sign up for tethering). Now on Verizon, who knows for sure?

... 4.3 is going on my iPad, just to test it out...

Are you a developer? Are you testing using new features in your apps, or for the compatibility of your current apps with the new OS?

If not, note that you can't install a beta unless your device UDID is registered with a developer account, this beta OS has documented bugs (please see the release notes), and an expiration date where your iPad will stop working.

hotspot is working here in Canada

the default password made me laugh

geezer17quaks :D

seems like the hotspot is tied in with tethering.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-gb) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Yay for third party airplay support!!! :)

What most people fail to realize is that apple had been selling the iPT2 as an 8GB model up until this august.
You do realize Personal Hotspot is completely useless on an iPod touch?

Also, the people who bought an iPod Touch in August are not the same people who read MacRumors. They won't know (and won't care about small firmware update)

If they are indeed getting rid of the home button on the next iPad this would make sense.

I think it would be difficult to get rid of the Home Button.

As a multi touch OS I would think it would be too easy to inadvertantly use the homescreen gesture while in a program or game.

Multitouch gestures can have multiple meanings in a program. (unless Apple Locks them out.) Heck, in some games or applications that truly utilize multi touch this could wreak havoc, at least from a user's perspective, say you're in some game - wildly using multi-touch - high score / awseome accomplishment within reach - and poof - program closes to homescreen. What a PITA that would be

The Home button has only one purpose while you are in a program.

Apple better think long and hard about this. Also I don't think they would send out the beta to test this, so close to hardware release.

The end of the Home button?

Note that with the new gestures, there is almost no need for the Home button! One less button for Steve to fret over.

I can only think of three, kind of obscure uses left, and I can see these moving off the Home button someday too: 1) Tap Home and Power to take a screen shot; 2) Triple Tap Home to turn on Accessibility options, and; 3) Hold Home and Power to force-power-down the device.

When you start a slideshow in the photos app on the iPhone there is a new screen where you can choose the transition mode and activate background music.

Video Airplay support for apps with the new Apple TV is gonna be awesome! The first ones I want to use off the top of my head are EyeTV, Plex, Hulu Plus, ABC, and Air Video.

Hi i am not an paid developer in apple, i am looking to downlaod the beat 4.3 if possible can someone post the link?

It wouldn't work even if you was able to download it and install it. Your phone must be tied to a dev account or it won't activate once you install iOS 4.3.

Can someone outline the gestures that are available? Maybe some videos or pics?

BTW you guys really need to move to a different carrier... Our carriers here in Australia supports tethering since day 1. Without any additional charge.

According to the release notes, apps (and also websites) will have to explicitly allow airplay on the embedded media for this to work: The default is to not allow airplay

Can someone explain to me how these new gestures will work? like as if I was an idiot.

Place four fingers on your iPad. No no, not your thumb you idiot. Just your fingers. Now... move them upward!

"Oh wow the multitasking bar!!!!!!"

Settle down. Ok next put your hand on your iPad again. ... Just your fingers now, like you did last time. Now you swipe them left.

"Oh cool I'm in another app now!!!!!!"

Here, have a chocolate. Now get ready again! Put your four fingers on the iPad again, and pinch them together!

"Like this??"

No stop pinching your fingers with your other hand... just... ok spread out your fingers. Yes, that's it. Now bring them alllllll together!

"Oh wow the home screen!"

You win!

Yes of course I realize this but when you look at the post that I quoted you will realize that the personal hotspot never came up and I was only stating the fact that yes that it is very likely that people still own the legacy devices.
