Using this now, home sharing on the iPad is amazing, safari is wicked fast.

Very, very impressed.

Won't know how it is on iPhone til the JB is out.

Regarding multitouch gestures on the iPad, the option is gone in the GM, and they weren't working. But when I restored from a backup of 4.3 B2 that had them enabled, they were working again.

Mine didn't go away when I updated. So far it's better than the previous 4.3 betas but the app updating still seems glitchy at times. Some apps are removed from their folders when getting updated and don't go back. A bit odd as it's only some of them while others stay put. I had the massive glitch on the first beta where all folders disappear and the layout goes to the apple default but only once.

iOS5 will come with iphone5, ofcourse ;)

I want it now! Seems like it should come with the iPad. I mean iOS could use some strucutral work as opposed to the window dressing that its been getting to date. Oh well I guess it hasnt stopped them from selling 15 million ipads to date.

I think Apple uses the iPhone to usher in new iOS versions. When the iPad was released last year it did not even get the updated iOS until late fall. While I suspect it will be quicker this time around, its likely that Apple will still usher in new versions of iOS via the iPhone releases (which from a marketing point makes sense, iPhones sold to date dwarf iPads, and most likely will for years and years).

Has anyone noticed any performance improvements in Safari on the iPhone? Folks have mentioned how much faster it is on iPad but what about on the phones?

The browser is already quite fast on the iPhone 4, but of course faster will be awesome. And on older phones, a speed increase is much needed!

If you are actually a licensed developer you would be able to see why it doesn't work on more sites :p

The reason is web developers have to add airplay="allow" to <embed> tags or x-webkit-airplay="allow" to <video> tags

http://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/ios/#releasenotes/General/RN-iOSSDK-4_3/_index.html

Annoying :(

Why does Apple do this anyway? Wouldn't it be easier to just let ANY video be airplayed? They pretty much own the market; if some people out there don't want their videos airplayed, can't Apple just say "tough crap"?

how do i enable home sharing on my iphone? i installed the 4.3 GM and updated itunes to 10.2 and activated home sharing.

nothing happens on the iphone (ipod)

EDIT
got it! you have to set it up in the ipod prefs on the device!

Tv shows are not showing with Home Sharing, anyone else with the same problem?

It is working fine for me. I am using iTunes 10.2 under Windows and and I have an iPhone 4. Make sure you go into PREFERENCES --> SHARING and make sure you are sharing TV Shows. Mine is set to Share Entire Library.

On my iPhone 4 go to the iPod, Select the More button at the bottom and select Shared and select your Shared Lib. Then select Videos icon from the bottom menu and you should see your TV Shows appear on that screen (you might have to scroll down).

Ugh! as expected Personal Hotspot requires carrier permission. On my Nexus One i didn't need any permission despite the fact that the phone came from a Vodafone contract upgrade.

Here i have a SIM Free (Unlocked) iPhone and i have to go and present myself to a carrier, ask them to rape me of my funds some more in order to get the hotspot feature activated

Utter uselessness.

so im not a dev but i have the 4.3 gm. if i install on my device i wont get bricked or anything right. i know i should probably wait until next fri but i have the new software anxiousness right now. thanks guys!

Optus (Australia) did not block. At least not yet.

It is just the better way to go about it. By having people opt in it gives the websites control of their content. Some people will not want to have their videos rebroadcast in such a manner, and there may even be some copyright issues there. By doing it this way, Apple avoids any legal hassles, and also keeps web site and content providers from having to come up ways with blocking IOS users from accessing content just to prevent potential rebroadcasting.

Actually was a really good decision on their part.

If I am not a developer, can I somehow enable the multitasking gestures on the iPad through xcode? Thanks.

Any word if multi touch gestures for the iPad can still be activated in this build? I know apple said it wouldn't be part of the public release, but I'm hoping they still let devs activate the feature for testing their own apps. Fingers crossed.

I did an upgrade and they still work. I'm glad 'cause I've gotten quite used to them.

Feels snappier than the betas too.

The hotspot option is awesome however, I cannot get homesharing working for some reason. I enabled it in iTunes and i entered my apple ID under ipod in the settings menu.

Is there a step i'm missing?

iTunes-Edit-Preferences-Sharing

Make sure Share my library is checked

Go to iPod app, go to more and click Shared

I notice it takes a few seconds for it to show up, but in the iPod app you have to go to more and the bottom option is sharing.
