i just restored on my ipod touch 4g and seems pretty good except my music app is realllly buggy. going into cover flow and flicking through my albums results in the app crashing
Edit: i think it might have to do with unicode support as it only crashes with albums containing chinese/japanese characters.. or it just hates one of my albums.

After installing it to a 3GS and a iPhone 4, as new phones (NO restore at all), here is what I found:

Bluetooth stack is messed up. With beta 3 my Sony headphones MW600 used to work flawlessly. With beta 4 it is absolutely impossible to listen to any song without the sound cutting off.

By monitoring processor usage with iStat, I could see a constant Load Average above 1. With bluetooth headphones and iPod running, it increases to more than 2, which explains the choppy sound.

Such high processor use of course means an excessive battery drain. And I tried disabling each and every setting such as wifi, location, push, etc. Not even in airplane mode it gets down to beta 3 cpu levels.

For those unfamiliar with the "Load Average" index, it means that if it is 1 than the processor is in full use. It if it more than 1 the processor is overloaded, with a queue of instructions waiting their turn. Beta 4 had it always above 1 while beta 3 keeps it very low (around 70% load with bluetooth+ipod).

Since I also greatly depend on the disabled tethering functionality, I decided to go back to beta 3.

This does not suprise me they are stepping through each subsystem one by one and updating them with new code strings and cutting off old trees. I suspect they are updating code bit by bit and with OTA they are going to release it faster and faster. I have noticed that battery life on all Beta are lower than 4.xx series but then again they have monitoring apps running in the background to capture faults and return them to apple. I have had cellular data issues it said i was not activated for quite some time. This is all new we suffer so the rest can have a flawless experience the price we pay to dev and get paid or pay to play. I think they need to address the synch stack it is all new if people have not noticed it synch totally different and it can be tricked and corrupt. I had that issue falty power cable power on off on off caused synch to start stop and corrupt my phone. I did a restore and re-synch and i was fine but this is an bug for sure. This is still faster updated and better than any time i was using android.

I've run into the same issues with bluetooth connecting to my car stereo (cutting out like crazy). I found that after a reboot of my phone, the problems have gone away (who knows if they'll come back, though).

I forgot to take a screenshot but I just synced my iPhone and then I got a message on the phone that said "532 items could not be synced to phone. Please see itunes for more details."
Anybody else see that and/or know how to check iTunes for the details?

I'm having the bluetooth audio stuttering issues too. I tried to revert to beta 3, but iTunes won't let me. It keeps giving me Error 20. I guess I'm stuck with beta 4 until beta 5 comes out. Unless anyone can tell me how to downgrade successfully...

Put your phone in DFU mode. Google how to do this it is very easy. Then restore to beta 3 should be that simple

anyone else notice an issue with the music app where the artists with the word "the" in their names are being catalogued under T, rather than the name of the artist -- the strokes is under T instead of S, etc

I did this and successfully downgraded my iPhone. After I installed iTunes 10.5 beta 3 which gave me a whole slew of issues because apparently iTunes is now vital in Lion.

Either way I managed to delete iTunes and get the beta 3 up but now when I plug in my iPhone I get the "iPhone could not be synced because software is too old."

I triple and quadruple checked and I know for a fact that the iPhone is running beta 3 and iTunes is beta 3, yet after I restored from backup I cannot sync and I am quite stuck. When I plug in the phone I always get that same error and the Sync button is greyed out.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The bluetooth problems are very annoying. I use it in my car almost everyday to listen to music. I've resorted to plugging my phone into the usb port and listening through that (which I hate because you have control on the phone).

I've gotten something similar to that as well. Just said that two things couldn't be synced. But I've synced it a couple times since I installed the update and this is the first time it has happened so I'm not sure what it means. Everything seems to have synced propertly

Is the camera shortcut on lockscreen enabled yet? I don't see it on mine but I haven't really looked through the settings to see if I have to enable it.

I wonder why it still hasn't been implemented this far into the beta? I mean... it doesn't seem like it is that complicated of a feature.

Yes, it's been there since beta one. Double-tap the home button on the lock screen.

Major beta 4 problems

So I tried to update to beta 4 OTA but the bar just sat there and didn't move at all (no I'm not jailbroken), and I couldn't get it to restart...so I said screw it and did it the old fashioned way. Downloaded the update, option clicked restore, and chose the file. Then, when I said "restore from backup" so I'd have the same stuff on my phone again...it did the process, but NONE of my messages, pictures, or settings are back on my phone, and I've tried this restore from backup several times.
This hasn't happened with ANY of the other betas. I don't know what to do! :(

My phone is not jailbroken currently, but it had been jailbroken in the iOS 4.x days and I got the "Your software is up to date" message which usually is shown to jailbroken iPhones. So restoring the phone from an official firmware does not completely wipe out jailbreaking stuff. So I had to follow the traditional backup-upgrade iTunes-restore route to install the beta 4. :(

Out of interest, is anyone else having huge issues with Safari?

I'm having an absolute nightmare time open and closing tabs in the browser. Whenever I try to either open or close a tab, the search field seems to get selected. It's driving me crazy.

I did that, and was able to downgrade to beta 3. However, now iTunes beta 4 won't sync with my phone--It says the software it too old. I reinstalled ITunes beta 3, but it won't even launch on my computer now.

Then, I tried to completely delete iTunes beta 4 so I could do a fresh install of beta 3, and the system won't let me since it is "required for Lion."

So, now I'm stuck with beta 4 if I wan't my stuff to sync....

Any ideas on how to restart the OTA (iPad) update? I began mine a few days ago and it's made zero progress. My Software Update screen is stuck at:

iOS 5 beta 4
AppleInternal
---------------------------- [empty progress bar]
< 1 minute remaining
( Downloading... )

I've tried restarting and it doesn't help.

Did you try doing a tethered update?

Mr Milk

How we you able to downgrade to Beta 3?

Jeff

Yesterday I but my phone back to beta (from 4.3.4 to IOS 5 beta 4) and everything went fine. After I restored my backup I noticed that me.com mail doesn't work anymore. I tried to but mail off and on at iCloud settings but it didn't come back anymore.

Anyone else having this same issue?

I may go back to 4.3.3(if I even saved my SHSH) just to play with the jailbreak a bit. I miss RetinaPad so much.. But the notifications are AWFUL on anything lower than 5.0. MobileNotifier may work for a while though.. I'm not saying beta iOS 5 is bad, because I think it's amazing, but they should really allow Retina apps to run full resolution on iPad.
