Apple Seeds iOS 6.1 Beta 5 to Developers

I'm noticing everything is smoother. Faster connection to Wifi, faster loading of pictures from iMessage/MMS conversations... More to come.

iOS 6 was a huge update. Even if you're just looking at user level stuff - Passbook alone is a big deal to me. Mail VIP is huge. FB integration is something I use a lot. Maps of course. But all of that is really minor compared to the major new APIs us developers got to enjoy.

That said, iOS 6.1 seems like its been in beta a VERY long time and its got only 2-3 minor changes and 1 API addition. Very strange. Almost as if all the iOS devs are working on something else…

They better be! The Springboard needs a major overhaul.

Agree. Notification Center needs a major overhaul, adding interaction instead of a pulldown menu to glance at doesn't do much for me. Otherwise, I don't know what Apple could do to modify the graphics of icons, etc. I like the new weather app graphics introduced in iOS 6, much smoother and more streamlined. Implementing that through other core apps would be a improvement.
 
I can't seem to find a torrent or a download for the new beta/GM for my iphone 5 AT&T model for the usa. Help anyone?

I would also like something to be done with the lock screen. I would prefer it to have some sort of widgets, or at least a UI change of some sort. Maybe a new way of unlocking the device? Similar to face unlock and voice unlock on ICS?

They moved it on the 5 so that if you locked it while in the Music app it would seamlessly transition to Music upon unlock. If it was centered it would jump. Definitely something Apple would do.

Definitely. I have the Cydia app (Info or lockinfo-something I believe, it has been a while) that adds functionality for a lockscreen/notification center type purpose. Apple would be wise in adding this to their iOS interface.

Except that's flakey. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Apple doesn't typically add a feature until they nail it.

I am waiting impatiently for the ios 6 jailbreak so I can customize the heck out of my iPhone 5 too!

Exactly. And that's what I love about apple. It always works, so when they do change it, you can be sure it's not just a gimmick (cough cough, S-Voice)

my iphone does that once I hang up a call it goes no signal but comes right back within a minute or two, I still think it is annoying it does it at all though.

Which iDevice? Any risks if I install this "GM" instead of just wait for the public release? Im coming from the Android side and get antsy for flashing stuff...😎
 
People running 6.0, looking for BIG THINGS in 6.1, will be surely disappointed. As mentioned, I've run all the betas, and 6.1 seems no different from what I do on my phone, than 6.0. Speed is the same, battery seems to be the same. Only PLUS I saw was downloading individual songs from Itunes match.

Agreed. If you're wanting BIG changes, you're gonna have to jailbreak!
