iOS 6.1 beta 4 expired

iOS 6.1 beta 4 has expired on my iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad (3rd generation Wi-Fi). However it is still running on my iPhone 4 and iPod touch (4th generation) for the meantime. I'm currently downloading iOS 6.1 beta 5 or GM. Has anyone else's iOS device beta expired? It expired at 11am AEDT on Monday 28 January here in Australia.

Yup, my iPhone 5 and iPad both shut down and require activation with the new beta release. I posted a thread as I didn't know what happened, but before I finished typing I realized that the beta had expired. Downloading the IPSW's as I type.

In the same boat, can't believe apple wait until the day before it expired to give an update, on a weekend no less. Now my phone is trying activate and I can't get in it to update it...

You don't need to do anything on the phone to update it - there's no OTA. You need to download the .IPSW and update to it.

ios 6 beta 4 expired

at 19:00:00 Colombia, my iphone 5 are locked for beta ios 6.1 expired... helppp :(

Love the short notice on this expiration.

Windows peeps: just download the new DMG, extract IPSW with TransMac, and SHIFT-UPDATE via iTunes.

Did a 3GS and a iPad 2, both updated without a hitch, and without dev ID needed.

Can anybody else confirm this problem? Seems like a glaring bug apple would want to fix before making a public release.

Yeah my iphone 4S battery is horrible too! i noticed it being around 60% in 2 hours and i barely did anything just use it for facebook on 3G! Usually it be about 80%

Interesting...seems like battery life could be a problem, as this has been reported twice each with a different device.

Everyone on ios 6.1 beta 5 please share your experiences battery wise. (I know it's only been a day) but this could be a big problem!

ipod touch update issue

I too have an iPod touch (5th generation) and am unable to update it to iOS 6.1 beta 5 or GM. And the current beta has expired on my iPod meaning I cannot use it anymore. Has anyone successfully updated their 5th gen iPod touch?

I'm running ios 6.1 beta 5 on my iphone 5, and getting about 6hrs and 50mins with 1hr and 43mins of usage at 81% battery, while running on lte at all times. But with a signal of 2-3bars and sometimes switches from 4g to lte. Other then that, I think the battery is about the same as running on 6.0.1, which i call decent and should be able to push for the whole day with about 6-8hrs of usage. Never ran 6.0.2 because i was afraid of the battery drain being really bad.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully there is no bug and apple will release 6.1 this week.

i'll test my iPhone's battery when i go to college tomorrow. See how the battery last.

Yes thanks! This is really going to help us decide whether to upgrade or not.

I am as puzzled as you are, I cannot get it to load it says "Device isn't eligible for the requested build"

Here's how you fix it. This just happened on my 4S, performed these steps and it updated flawlessly:

  • Make sure you are logged in as administrator
  • Open Finder
  • Hold down COMMAND + SHIFT keys and press ‘G’
  • Enter “/private/etc/” in the field and press “Go”
  • Find “hosts” file in the directory
  • Drag the file to your desktop
  • Open it in text editor
  • Remove the line that has gs.apple.com entirely or put a # at the beginning of it to comment it out
  • Save the file
  • Drag it back to the /private/etc/ folder
  • Enter your username and password to authenticate
  • Go back to iTunes, option+update, choose the IPSW and away you go

Wow, so many instances of battery being worse than earlier betas and 6.0.1/6.0.2?

Lack of features + battery problems... Who's gonna update man...

Just updated to iOS 6.1 Beta 5
No problems what so ever as of now... The only thing I noticed is well the album artwork in the lockscreen. It's much better (For me at least... OCD)
Apps load faster. Overall seems snappier.

Difference between 6.0.2 to 6.1 artwork on lockscreen

Are you on a iPhone 5?

----------

- Oh boy, are you wrong. It will add LTE support in several countries and on many carriers the world over when it is released next week.
For a lot of users it's the most anticipated iOS update in a long time. I can't wait.

Not only that, but increased performance and speed on most upgrading iOS devices

I just tried your steps...and it still failed, once the iTunes logo appears on my iPod, iTunes spits out the error and my iPod reboots. (Reference Pics Attached)

Clearly Apple is having difficulties. People on the dev forums are complaining of the same iPod touch 5th gen issue as everyone on here. If you have an iPod touch 5th gen, my advice to you is STAY ON 6.0.1!

NDA? What NDA? ;)

So my phone decided to crash today. Upon turning it on, it prompted me to activate it. Problem is, activation wouldn't work no matter what I tried.

I'm on vacation without my laptop. Had to run to an apple store to dfu restore my phone to 6.0.2 without backing up. I've been away for two weeks.

I was on 6.1 beta 4. Has anyone else experienced this? I'd advise you guys to update ASAP. Had I been somewhere without an Apple store, I could have been screwed. I've been relying on my iPhone for GPS, etc.

EDIT: looks like others experienced the same thing. Pretty awful for apple to kill beta 4 on us so quickly. :/

bugs in new iTunes/App Store fixed?

Hey, so I haven't posted in ages, but I was just wondering if someone could tell me whether two things have been fixed in the new iOS stores:

1. I love that in the iTunes Store the sample will keep playing when navigating around the store, leaving the app, etc. But the black bar on top, which is supposed to show the song preview that's playing when you navigate to a different page on the store, has major graphical issues. It seems to be very random as to whether you will get any kind of a "song preview bar" that looks or works at all how it's supposed to. So can someone check if this is fixed in 6.1?

2. Not really a bug, but when searching for apps in the App Store, having to swipe through each app one by one is ridiculous, as many others have complained about. I actually like that it has the nice big screenshot of the app, but all there needs to be is a "show all" button in the search. The iTunes Store has always had this for music and movies/tv shows, it would be so easy to jut add a simple "show all" button to the App Store search that shows a large list of apps, like before. I'm guessing they haven't put this in 6.1, but just thought I'd check. ;)

That's all I can think of for now. Generally my iOS 6 experience has been great, unlike many others, apparently. Oh btw add me to the list of people who haven't had any problems with iOS Maps, at least since they fixed the initial so-called "search," which was was incredibly random and crappy. That was my only issue with Maps when iOS 6 was first released, but they fixed the search issues pretty quickly, at least for me.

That's what happens when a beta expires. Also, it's a BETA. I learned the hard way a couple years ago never to leave my house for an extended period of time (longer than a couple days) with my phone on a beta or tethered JB.
