... but won't matter even if that were the case as this is the version shipping on the new phones and can be updated OTA should a fix be needed.

Correct. I wish people understood this better. The new iPhones ship on the 20th. The GM was released today. That means there's a week & three days until people will have new iPhones in their hands. Which means millions of iPhones are sitting, packaged up, on pallets waiting to be shipped to warehouses to be distributed for the 20th at this very moment. Those iPhones have the same iOS builds on them. A build that is very stable, & is not completely unusable. Any minor bugs can be ironed out in 7.x releases.

Well I have to say I'm liking the GM so far.

I decided to do a full "restore" as it was a good opportunity to do some housekeeping on my iPhone 5.

I like the new look, the icons are snappy and the performance seems good, and the new user interface is clear and easy to navigate. Performance seems pretty slick, and I like the new "app-closing" screen, instead of the old "click on the X" method.

I'll have to play with the new iOS to get fully used to it, but it's looking impressive so far.

You can *not* update from a BETA to GM - iTunes will not show you an update, as it is not "released" yet, only via the developer center.

Are you sure about this?

I saw this curious thing in the GM seed note:

Safari
Known Issue

If upgrading to the GM Seed from an earlier seed, Safari preferences may be lost.

Workaround: Disable passcode lock before you upgrade.

So according to apple, you CAN upgrade from an earlier seed. But how? I just got it by restoring with alt restore in itunes 11.1 beta 2. That worked. But I'm curious how to upgrade from beta 7 to GM.

Can anybody tell me which one do I download for my 4th gen retina display wifi iPad from my developers account

Upgrading

By clicking shift clicking the update button in itunes and using the same IPSW file....

Making sure I have this right. In iTunes on my windows PC, I can shift click restore my iphone to install iOS7, then restore my backup from iCloud. Am I missing anything?

It's terrible on the iPad Mini/2/4. Multi-tasking freezes the device, locking/unlocking opens to a blank home screen requiring a shutdown and reboot that takes 5-10 minutes depending. Performed a "clean" restore on each, no improvement. It's been an issue since beta 1, it better be fixed.

This. Absolutely this.

I've found typing on Notes and Evernote on the Mini with iOS 7 terrible too, the processor simply couldn't keep up with the keystrokes and all the words would come out terrible. Latest I tried was 7 beta 6 and ran back to 6.1.3 as soon as I could.

Think I'll leave my mini on 6 until necessity forces it up to 7 - unless someone can confirm the speed issues are at least a little fixed?

I just did the update only method with the non beta version of itunes, worked just fine and did not lose safari preferences. Was on beta 6 before.

Does anyone know if the GM added translucency to the iPhone 4? It's unlikely but you never know..

There is just transparency, but no gaussian blur. The dock has a brighter colour based on your wallpaper, but with a very minor transparency. It looks really strange. The Control Centre is different: while my dock is blue, my Control Centre is just light grey. This makes the UI look more crowded in some areas, especially the home screen where most of the wallpaper is just not visible anymore.

The worst part for me is that iOS 7 is not as responsive as iOS 6 on my iPhone 4. There is always a slight delay (up to one second, sometimes more). Good thing I get the opportunity to test it now, because at this point I am not convinced at all and rather stick with iOS 6.

OK, so no OTA to go from iOS7 beta to iOS7 GM. But if I restore via iTUnes to the iOS7 GM, will I be able to get all the OTA updates post iOS7 GM? Or do I have to re-restore to the iOS7 official release version to get OTA updates after that?

TIA.

The GM *is* the release version. ;-)

Did an update with current Windows iTunes release. Took about 10 minutes and worked beautifully. Really liking iOS 7, and that's coming from a nicely jail broken iPhone 5 for the past year (until this past Sunday).

iOS 7, you forgot me (iTouch 4th Gen). Does this mean it's over between us?

Unfortunately, yes. Considering that Safari on iOS 6 on my 4th gen. iPod Touch is a pain, I can't imagine how bad trying to get iOS 7 running on only 128 MB of RAM.
