Can anyone comment on the fixes of the bugs I've found on 3.0:

App pictures jumbling up after a hard reset.
WiFi signal issues.
Speed of 3.1 compared to 3.0.
Occasionally unlocking phone and not having the backlight on to illuminate screen.
Battery life!!! Has it been improved?
Any word on a MobileMe App?

Speaking of Apps, why is there no iChat app yet?

I think there will be an iChat app when the iPhone gets a front-facing video camera. Apple will revolutionize video calling for mobile devices (as now, video calling on mobile phones is pants) and everyone will want the new iPhone - again. :p

Has the Reset screen always had all of these options? I've not used Reset since v2 firmware and cannot recall having them then.

Yeap, it is exactly the same!!!

Has this bug been fixed?

If you view a web page in Safari in portrait mode and tap a phone number (or any other element that is recognized by the data detectors) you get a buttoned option list as in the portrait picture below.

Now if you do the same in landscape mode the list not buttoned but scrollable  I would the assume the portrait version is the correct version.

Thanks, I do have an App installed that gives me Emoji but when I get an SMS with a :) it's still a :) and not a
Smiley%20Face.jpg

That's because Emoji's don't work like that ! There are on a different keyboard and only other iPhone or Japanese phone user will see them so you can't send them to anyone !

To see the keyboard you need to go to your keyboard settings then Japanase then you should have the Emoji's button to turn it on

my guess is that's on purpose. if you had more than four buttons in landscape mode they would overflow the screen. Now you can scroll to the action of your choice.

Not going to happen natively anytime soon.

Still "coming soon" as its been states since the day it was announced.

LOL

Nope. But that idisk app when it comes out connects to your mobileme - which connects to your shared hard disks if you have an Airport :)

http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/features/harddrivesharing.html

Access your drive over the Internet.Say you’re traveling and you need a file on the hard drive connected to your AirPort Extreme back at home. If you’re a MobileMe member using Mac OS X Leopard, no problem.* You can now access all the files on your shared drive over the Internet. Simply register your AirPort Extreme with your MobileMe account, and your drive appears in your Finder sidebar just like any other attached drive. It’s like having your own personal file server wherever you go.

If I understand what your asking for, What do we need another wi-fi disk access app for, there are many of these in the appstore. Thats probably why you're not seeing any new ones.

What could an "official" app do that those can't.

if you don't have a sticky ip address then there are pleanty of services that do dynamic dns updating. You don't need mobileme for that.

I didn't have the 3.0 version more than like 3 days after getting my phone, now im on 3.1 beta 2 and i see alot of new bugs like you said here.

when upgrading to 3.1 my icons started switching out with other apps icons.
WiFi is very weak and is nothing like any other Mac WiFi ive used before.
the speed has increased comparing my phone to my bf's exact same phone, 3gs 32GB white. Mine moves right alone with his still trailing in the dust.:D
When it comes to unlocking the phone and the backlight not working i though this was just bug on my phone, good to know its not!

And although i have registered UDID that i paid to get, i cant fine a site yet to a 2nd or 3rd party with a download link for Beta 3......Ideas??:apple:

Also my phone with version 2 beta is still up and running today, i was worried id loose it all cause my laptops not here, but woke up this morning and its working fine. Dont understand why others are having problems?!?!?

No data or details to support this, but I think this will be the final release before it goes public the first week of August. At least I hope that is what will happen.

MMS is ready, AT&T is just needing to unlock it. Tethering is just a matter of releasing details of how much money per month.
Not a chance. You're are looking at 2 more betas, 4-6 weeks minimum.

i could be the only one that thinks this, but could there be a reason that apple had the beta 2 expire so early. could it be that they wanted to force devs to upgrade to b3 just so they could push out an update earlier. like later next week or shortly after?

Voice Control now works over headphones

Previous to this version, if you did Voice Control while using headphones, you wouldn't hear anything because the audio would only go through the iPhone speaker (not the headphones). Now the audio plays through the headphones. I'm very glad about this because I would always have to guess when to speak commands before since I couldn't hear the audio feedback.

Got an email address?

you're right. giving everyone in my contacts my email address and then me having to figure out what service all of my contacts are with so i can save the appropriate mobile email address for them is much easier than just sending an MMS. :p

As far as I know, there is no app that auto-converts incoming ":)" to the actual :) . The only way I'm aware of this happening is if someone specifically sends an Emoji.

You wanted someone HERE to send you a picture through MMS of 3.1. Well, in order to do that, we need your phone number... however, I think giving out a phone number is a little more private than an email address.

So can we have your phone number then?

We can't send you an MMS without knowing your phone number.

Exactly, these bugs have been irritating the @#%! out of me. I haven't seen much about the app bug. Judging from the response you got from the poster running 3.1 beta 2, the app icon issue still hasn't been fixed. And I thought the backlight issue was only my phone. I hope the developers report these bugs, and they're fixed by the final release.

Well, since Apples got all kinds of PR out there (not including the mobileme box & sales kid, who say it is already out) saying it's coming, as well as images of it working, and they're still using it as fairly major selling point in their mobileme service, I would certainly hope that they'd come out with it.

What could an "official" app do that those can't. if you don't have a sticky ip address then there are pleanty of services that do dynamic dns updating. You don't need mobileme for that.

Can you get that service, plus everything else mobileme comes with, integrated as seamlessly and conveniently as a mobileme acct, at the same price?

...not that it matters much in reality, as I still can't edit any of the files I'd be accessing on the phone anyway I guess. Guess I could send them to an on-site computer... course, if that computer has inet access to get the email, then I might as well just access them from that computer to begin with. & if the computer doesn't have inet access, I'd need em on a usb drive, which the iphone, has no way of sending data to, or acting as. Unlike every other phone or even ipod. Guess this is a smart phone, so long as it is very private and doesn't talk to other devices.

---fun fact of the day---

The word "Idiot" derives from the greek word "Idios" meaning "Private Person" or one who chooses to close themself off from the community and live an insular, sheltered life.

Perhaps that's what the "i" stands for in "iPhone".

I have an idiotphone?

I had problems with certificates in 2.0 but never tried it in 3.0. In 3.1 I have no problems with our exchange server and active sync.

Cheers

Indeed it was fine in 2.x.x but 3.0 broke the certificate insomuch as it presented blank credentials.

Note that if I connect to Exchange server through my company's corporate WiFi then all is fine, the issue is when I come through other networks, then it fails on authentication.

I do not understand the complaints about bricked iphones or the beta 2 expiring. I didn't get home until after midnight today. I was listening to music on my phone and even used my phone before i installed beta 3 and it was working fine.

"Apple is reportedly relying on new developer tools present in iPhone OS 3.1 to deploy augmented reality applications that are capable of overlaying live video from the iPhone's camera with real-time data."

You know that airport screener technology that allows them to see through peoples' clothes? I wonder if that will become an augmented reality App?

Of course, I would rather have something more useful. Like, the ability to see through walls. That would be a cool augmented reality App - if you hold your phone up to a wall, it overlays on the wall what is behind the wall (kind of like Google Street View; not real-time, but still useful).
